Camp San José’s Presidents Week Camp is full of age appropriate activities that

will allow participants to show their creative side as well as recreation and

sports games that will promote physical fitness. Participants will embark on a

field trip to the Exploratorium in San Francisco as well as a variety of special

activities on site. Campers will need to bring a lunch and water each day. A

healthy morning and afternoon snack will be provided.

2015 Youth Scholarships For those in need of financial assistance, please sign up for the City of San Jose’s 2015 Youth Scholarship. The 2015 Scholarship application is available at Southside Community Center’s main office.

RAINOUT HOTLINE When rain is forecasted, parents should call the rainout hotline 1-888-372-5803 30 minutes before their child’s scheduled class for cancellation updates. Make up classes will be added at the end of the session.

KARATE (KENPO) - Level 2/3 This is a continuation of the Level 1 class. Students will learn an intermediate form of martial arts which promotes respect, self es-teem, leadership and self-confidence. This class continues teaching the techniques of kicking, punching, blocking, striking and self-defense while adding elbow & knee strikes, multiple combinations, intermediate forms and intermediate self-defense techniques. Karate uniforms not required, but are available through the instructor. Classes are taught by highly-qualified instructors with 2nd-5th de-gree Black Belts. SKYHAWKS MINI HAWK This multi-sport program was developed to give 4-7 year olds a positive first step into athletics. Soccer, Baseball and Flag Football are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encourage-ment and fun. Through games and activities, participants explore balance, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Please bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing and running shoes. SENIOR NUTRITION NEWS In our continued efforts to improve the nutrition program, the City of San José, Santa Clara County Nutrition and Bateman Food Services are pleased to announce that as of January 20, 2015 all Senior Nutrition meals will be cooked and prepared in our center’s kitchen. There will be added staff that will include a Cook, Kitchen Aid and Nutrition Manager. The quarterly menu will be created based on the input from our nutrition participants. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at 12:00 pm for seniors age 60 and older. The menu is listed in the monthly newsletter available at the center. Call 408-629-9606 to make reservations at least one day in advance, but no more than two weeks in advance. Suggested donation is: $3.00 for participants 60+ $6.00 for those under 60 years of age We’ll also continue offering meal cards $30.00 for 11 meals. refund requests need to be made in writ-ing. refunds and transfers will be given for requests received at least 14 calen-dar days prior to the start of the pro-gram or class. no refunds or transfers will be made for cancellations received by the city less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program. there will be a $10.00 refund processing fee for each activity.
