Commissions’ Corner Many miracles are attributed to St. Pio. Most prominent is the Saint’s possession of the Stigmata: the five wounds
that Jesus Christ suffered in his hands, feet, and side at His crucifixion. These marks came to the future saint during the First World War when, as a young priest, he and his Capuchian communi-ty prayed constantly for the war’s end. During this time, Padre Pio had two apparitions of Jesus. During the first, he received the wound in his side. The remaining wounds to his hands and feet came after the second apparition. These wounds never healed and stayed with Padre Pio until his death in 1968. They have never been adequately ex-plained by medical doctors, this de-spite the fact that other wounds to his body from routine surgeries healed in a normal manner. And whenever drawn for tests, his blood was normal except for that emanating from his Stigmata which often emitted the fragrant scent of roses. Other miracles attributed to Padre Pio’s encounters with those seeking his intercession are ones of physical healing and the turning away from sin. Many persons were healed from the results of injuries, blindness, and life-threatening diseases, notably cancers, all after the afflicted had seen doctors who could not help them. These instances of the Saint’s benefit to humanity through healing, a power received by God’s grace through the man’s inherent modesty, hopefulness, and holy nature, have never been ex-plained by medical science. On occa-sion, a literal religious conversion could play a part in Padre Pio’s healing. Once a blind Jewish man who was brought by his friend, a priest, was told “The Lord will not grant you the grace of physical sight unless you first re-ceive sight for your soul. After you are baptized, then the Lord will give you your sight.” Despite the protests of his family, the man was baptized and re-gained his sight.
This article to be continued.
Additional references for Part II of the arti-cle: More miracles in the life of St. Pio are: 1) bi-location, the ability to be in two plac-es at the same time, and 2) levitation, the ability to raise oneself and to be suspended in the air thus defying the law of gravity

Music Notes
Easter is the most important feast day in the Church. East-er is the day that gives mean-ing to our faith and distin-
guishes it from all others. The great joy of Jesus' Resurrection translates to the possibility that we, too, will have eter-nal life. Our faith is worthless unless we believe that Jesus is Risen!
Pentecost would be the second most important Church feast day. St. John Chrysostom said in the fifth century about Pentecost, "Today we have ar-rived at the peak of all blessings, we have reached the capital of feasts, and we have obtained the very fruit of the Lord's promise."
It was on Pentecost that the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus, first came to the disciples. When the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in the form of wind and fire as they hid in the Up-per Room, they were changed into courageous souls who preached the Gospel strongly, and eventually were put to death just as Jesus was.
Pentecost is a Greek word that means "fiftieth day." It is celebrated fifty days after Easter. We can relate the root word, "pent" to other words that have to with fifty or five, for example "pentagon." The Jews also marked the fiftieth day after Passover with a feast called "Feast of First Fruits" or the "Feast of Weeks." It was for this rea-son that Jews from all over the Roman Empire had gathered in Jerusalem, eventually to hear Peter's bold testi-mony about Jesus. The Acts of the Apostles (2:41) reports that about three thousand persons were baptized on that day.
Pentecost is often known as the "birthday of the Church" because it was on this day that God's final cove-nant with humankind was complete. Stamped with the Spirit's approval, so to speak, they could preach confident-ly that "Jesus is Lord!" and that Jesus was equal with the Father, true God from true God.

Faith Formation Youth Ministry: Our End of the Year Mass was held last Mon-day, May 7th. Our Children sang, prayed and participated in
the Mass in many different ways. We had altar servers, gift bearers, Readers, Stu-dents that read our petitions and a skit by Students that reminded us that Jesus is always with us like the disciples on the road to Emmaus. It was a beautiful cere-mony and ended with an ice cream social held in the Social Hall. We had another great year in learning more about our faith and God's presence in it! VBS Registration continues util Tuesday, May 29. Please note there was an error in some of the Registration forms and the Official dates of VBS are: Monday through Friday, June 18-22. Children in grades K-6 are invited to register for "Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus" our theme for this year! Also today at Mass, Children from our program will be collecting money dona-tions after church to help offset the cost of Vacation Bible School. Please give to help support this very worthwhile pro-gram for our Children!

Gratitude “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of
God for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. When reading in preparation for this article on gratitude I was intrigued to find that there are many studies that have been done on the effects of gratitude in people’s lives. The one study showed there are at least sev-en benefits of gratitude. The first was how it opens the doors to friendships. By showing appreciation to another it can create a bond between people. Second is physical health which is reported to show that grateful peo-ple experience less aches and pains. Third is that gratitude improves psychological health such as reducing emotions of rage, envy and regret. Fourth is that gratitude enhances empathy towards others and reduces anger. The fifth is that grateful people sleep better and longer. Sixth is that gratitude improves a person’s self esteem. Grateful people are able to appreciate other people’s accomplish-ments. And finally, gratitude increases men-tal strength. To recognize all that you have to be thankful for even in the worst times in your life can foster resilience. It seems easy to be grateful for people and things we have in our lives when the calendar dictates it, such as at Thanksgiving, Christ-mas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc. At that time we are surrounded by loved ones and are visibly reminded what we should be grateful to God for, but what about everyday life? We should be able to thank God for the everyday things in our lives. Sometimes it takes practice to do this. You should try to find what works best for you, like expressing to God what you’re grateful for just as your day begins. Share with someone you have spent the day with what you enjoyed most about your time together. Begin a journal of what you are grateful for each day. Write in it what made you happy. Thank someone who has been an inspiration to you or has offered you support. I grew up hearing wonderful stories about Father Solanus Casey and his acts of kind-ness, charity and spiritual guidance as he helped so many people he came in contact with. One of my favorite sayings of Fr. Sola-nus is, “Thank God ahead of time”…what a wonderful saying that is. It’s with gratitude to God in all His goodness that we are able to see the beauty of His creation. We should be reminded to thank God each and every day for all that is in our lives. Let God into your life each day to help you express your own gratitude for His wonderful gifts.

St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the Holy Spirit at work with our newest ministry! Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
