LEADERSHIP MATTERS by Roger Yancey, D.Min.
How does the TEBA provide the ministry to its 134 member churches and missions? How can the TEBA underwrite the majority of costs related to fulfilling the mandates the churches directed us to focus on Missions, Leadership Development, Church Health, and Church Strengthening? The TEBA can fulfill its purpose because of the financial support and participation of its member churches and missions. On occasion I have someone mention to me that they understand that the TEBA receives funding from the Cooperative Program gifts. This is not accurate. The TEBA does not receive any funding from Cooperative Program sources – all financial support is from our member churches and missions alone. Without your church’s support we would not be able to provide the ministry of the TEBA.
When your church participates in the Cooperative Program it forwards a portion of its financial resources to its respective State Convention. The State Conventions then forward a percentage of the resources you send on to the Executive Board of the SBC who then in turn sends resources on to the International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, Christian Life Commission, Seminaries and other related SBC Ministries. The direct gifts of your church provide for all of the financial resources of your local missional ministry of the TEBA. Covering all or part of 6 counties with a population of more than one million people speaking more than 70 languages with an additional 2,000+ people moving into our area each month – the challenge of reaching all of those people with the Good News of Jesus is only possible by all of us working together. The challenge is great but our God is faithful and together we can fulfill His purpose. So allow me to say, Thank You. Thank you for the trust and support of your church family in the ministry of the TEBA. Thank you for being part of making a difference in the lives of so many churches. Thank you for being part of starting missions that have grown into churches – many of whom are among the largest in the SBC with literally 1,000s of people who have come to Christ because of your faithful efforts. You may have heard someone say in relations to giving that, “Its not about equal giving but equal sacrifice”. This holds true in the TEBA as well – by all of us committing together, a genuine impact is made. Thank you for being part of the TEBA and allowing me to serve you and your church family.
The direct gifts of your church provide all of the financial resources for your local missional ministry of the TEBA.
In Kingdom service,
So how does mission funding work? It’s all about cooperation.
We know you desire the growth of the small groups in your church; that’s why we’re excited to introduce you to a significant breakthrough in how small groups can interconnect in their study of the Bible – www.smallgroup.com Smallgroup.com is an online tool that allows pastors, educational leaders or individual group leaders to build custom Bible studies. At smallgroup.com, you can obtain a personal account with access to a massive library of Bible study content. Every study is biblically based and completely customizable by you. Furthermore, you can add every one of your group leaders to your account at no extra cost so they can all create studies for their groups. You will be able to quickly and affordably create Bible studies for multiple groups based on your needs, a sermon series, or a host of other topics. Go to smallgroup.com and sign up for a free two-week trial and experience the benefits to you and your small group ministry. The tutorials will assist you in the best methods for using this new tool. Having attended one of the webinars myself, I can tell you that the tool is a time saver and meeting reducer. We encourage you to give it a try!
