Message from the Chief Executive Officer

When I was in the seventh grade I used to travel to school by busand my parents would give me bus fare weekly whenever theycould afford to. Then one day I noticed an older guy who used tocome to our school and making money as an amateur photographer,so I thought that I could do it too.

There was one problem though; I didn’t have a camera and I knewthat my parents won’t be able to buy me a camera. So I thendecided to save my bus fare and walk to school for two months. After which I had enough money to buy the cheapest cameraavailable. However I was fortunate that I was able to exchange mynew camera for an older better camera with another guy.

Within a few days I was in business, taking pictures of people andthe business was doing well. But my business failed to grow like theolder guy’s business and I wondered why. It is only in retrospectthat I was able to know why my business couldn’t grow.

It turns out that the older guy had more patience than myself; hesaved up most of his profits and invested them in his business. I, onthe other couldn’t do the same. The thing is; I grew up in a lessfortunate family, so many times there were nights when I was facedwith a choice of keeping my money saved up or putting food on thetable, I chose the latter.

Years later I’ve had my fair share of success and failure in thebusiness world. I look back now and I clearly understand thedecision I took in my first business as a seventh grader. I made adecision to address an immediate need that my family had, ratherthan accumulate profits for myself.

Today I’m older, wiser and matured. I understand that although Ihad good intentions by addressing an immediate need, it would’vebeen much better if I was able to balance my philanthropy with asolid, sustainable and profitable plan.

I’ve spent the last decade in the ICT industry, so naturally onewould expect that I should still be in that sector, however I find thatI’m able to make a more fulfilling impact in other people’s livesthrough the FMCG sector. I’m so excited to be a part of anorganization such as Startco Foods. We have embarked on a journeyto transform the lives of our customers and impact communitiesthrough the sale of nutritious food products.

As you read this Company Profile, I’d like to make a sincere requestto you to consider partnering with me on my quest to balancephilanthropy with a solid, sustainable and profitable plan. I believethat I have a solid plan, but it is rather too big for me to execute allby myself.

Regards, Donald Maila

It turns out that the olderguy had more patience thanmyself; he saved up most ofhis profits and invested themin his business.
