Principal’s Message…

Sunshine Elementary Charter School and Paragon Academy of Technology began this school year with an eLearning model. We agree with the idea that science should drive decision-making when it comes to staff, student, and family safety.

We understand that there are many concerns related to online education, face to face instruction, and COVID-19. For your child to receive the best possible education under these circumstances, parents and guardians must take an active role in helping the children stay focused on their assignments. This is especially important for our younger students in grades K-2.

During these past few months, we have had to ask several students, classes, teachers, and staff members to quarantine as a result of their close contact with an individual either having symptoms of COVID-19 or actually testing positive for the virus. We know that this is an inconvenience for many families. However, the safety of the children and staff is most important. We will always do what is best to maintain a safe environment. Teachers who have been quarantined with their classes have been continuing to teach from home, if possible, and students have been attending class remotely.

Remember, our schools follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Broward County, and the State of Florida Health Department guidelines when making decisions related to COVID-19 exposure. Parents may be asked to have their children tested for the virus if they were in close contact with another student or adult displaying symptoms. Please know that these decisions are made with the intent on keeping all students, families, and staff members as safe as possible.

While quarantined, students are expected to continue their learning remotely. Of course, if students are very sick, we will mark them absent and allow them to make up work according to policies outlined in the Handbooks.

Please contact the front office and ask to speak to me or Vice Principal, Ms. Miskell, if you have any questions. Thank you for your wonderful cooperation in these difficult times.

Dr. Montes, Principal

STUDENT EMERGENCY CONTACT CARD

ALL STUDENTS ENROLLED IN PARAGON or SUNSHINE MUST HAVE UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON FILE!

It is extremely important that we have current phone numbers, mailing addresses, and email addresses on file for each child. This information must be updated if you move or change phones or emails.

At this time, we are asking ALL parents/guardians to complete a new Student Emergency Contact Card for every student. We need to have accurate information on file in case there is an emergency with your child. Please return the attached form to your child ‘s homeroom teachers as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.

Keep in mind – As part of our Safety Policy, at our discretion, we may contact 911 and have your child transported to the hospital if you or any of your emergency contacts cannot be reached. You will need to meet the paramedics and police at the hospital.
