The Syncussion SY-1 features two identical channels boasting 6 analogue Oscillator modes which were originally designed to provide a complete set of synthesized drum sounds for percussionists.

The 6 selectable preset Oscillator modes (A through to F) each produce a different or in some modes, mixture of basic waveforms:

Mode A - One Oscillator only

Mode B - Oscillator1 adjusts Oscillator 2’s frequency – producing a metallic like sound.

Mode C - Mix of Oscillator 1 and 2 – producing a similar tone to a vibraphone.

Mode D - Mix of Oscillator 1 and 2 with velocity affecting the sweep (pitch low to high)

Mode E - Oscillator 1 adjusts Oscillator 2’s frequency with a mix of noise.

Mode F - Noise only.

In addition to the aforementioned oscillator modes the sound can be further shaped via 8 faders which control Tune, Decay, Width (filter), Sweep Mode (up, down or off), Sweep Speed, Sweep Range, LFO speed, Depth & Waveform, Sample & Hold and Output Level.

With careful programming The Pearl Syncussion SY-1 can

produce a dynamic range of percussive sounds, powerful kicks and experimental sound effects which carry a vintage character inherent to its unique analogue drum synthesis methods and extremely raw sounding oscillators!

Surprisingly this freaky little analogue drum synth is capable of producing some of the rawest and most powerful analogue drum sounds we have ever heard!

The Pearl Syncussion SY-1 is an extremely rare analogue electric drum system originally manufactured in 1979 by Pearl Musical Instruments.

S y n c u s s i o n S Y - 1 H i s t o r y

Our goal was to record a versatile collection of unique sounding drum hits from one of the rarest and most powerful drum synths ever made… We worked extremely hard to capture the raw vintage character of the Syncussion SY-1 by recording both a huge selection of dry/unprocessed drum hits as well as a variety of round robin samples and velocity variations.

On top of this we recorded a wealth of sounds directly through our boutique selection of analogue outboard processors and high-end pre-amps. Additionally, a number of sounds were re-sampled through our EMU SP-12 Turbo sampler to obtain a more lo-fi and gritty sound.

Last but by no means least we visited the world of analogue tape (a Wave Alchemy first) by recording over 800 drum hits to 1/4” tape via a Studer A80 Mk1 tape machine. We hope you enjoy the library!
