Technology Overview
Office 365 Outlook Web App
What is Office 365?
Adler University is transitioning its students to the Office 365 collaboration platform.
This will provide our students with many benefits:
Student emails will be @adler.edu instead of @my.adler.edu
Mail sent to students’ @my.adler.edu will continue to be delivered to their
@adler.edu address so no emails will be lost
Access to the Office software suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) on up to
five personal devices
Skype for Business – instant messaging, audio/video collaboration tool
Onedrive for Business – 1 TB of secure cloud storage space
Online forms using Microsoft Forms
Cloud-based presentations using Microsoft Sway
Analytics / data visualization using Microsoft Power BI
Access your email on most computer and mobile platforms
Accessing / Managing Adler Email over the Internet
Your Adler email mailbox can be accessed from an Internet-connected device
(Windows/Mac-based laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) through the Microsoft Office
365 Office Web App (OWA). This website allows you to access a number of important
Adler resources both on and off-campus:
• Complete email mailbox
• School Directory
• Outlook Calendar, Tasks, etc.
• Microsoft OneDrive (personal cloud storage)
• Microsoft Office suite software download (for active faculty, staff, students)
When accessing the OWA website, please bear in mind the following best practices:
• Use a trusted computer. Untrusted public computers may be infected with
malicious software designed to capture your username/password credentials
for malicious purposes
• Do not share your Adler credentials (username/password) with anybody except
the Adler Technology team
• Always log off and close the browser window when you are done accessing
OWA
OWA supports most web browsers – please consult the Adler SystemCheck tool at
systemcheck.adler.edu to confirm your system’s compatibility with OWA.

Clutter and Junk Email Folders
By default, Office 365 analyzes your email habits and categorizes lower-priority email into your
Clutter folder thus streamlining your Inbox. Note that Clutter is different from Junk Email – this
where were perceived spam is delivered. You can train Clutter and Junk Email easily – just drag a
message from the Clutter or Junk Email folders to your Inbox – future emails from that sender will
now be delivered to your Inbox.
Please check your Clutter and Junk Email folders regularly as important email may be
delivered here. Should this occur, drag the appropriate message to your Inbox to train
Outlook accordingly.
Turning off Clutter
You can turn off Clutter to have all non-junk email delivered to your Inbox. Click on the Settings
gear , select Mail, then Select Clutter and then uncheck the Separate items identified as
Clutter, then click the Save button. Note that your Clutter folder will remain but subsequent
incoming non-junk mail will be delivered to your Inbox.
