The Exalted Ruler’s Message
The office of Exalted Ruler is an important one and a privilege that has been granted to me by the members of this Lodge. Some of you have asked me, “Are you ready to take on the role of ER?” My answer is an enthusiastic, “YES!” I know that the responsibility rests on my shoulders and my success will be vital to this Lodge and the great order of which this Lodge is an important part. My commitment to you as members is to be true to my obligation as an Elk and to the principles of our order. I will guard and defend our precious Charter and be vigilant in promoting the programs of Grand Lodge through my appointment of active committee chairs. I will always consider and act upon what is best for the
interests of Burlington Lodge #916. Additionally, I want to continue to provide our members with an enjoyable environment where everyone can kick back, relax, make new friends and enjoy our Elks “family”. One of my goals is to bring in varied entertainment on the weekends and for theme nights. I’ll keep you posted on further details. Now, what I would like to know from you! How can we continue to grow our Lodge and retain our members? What can we do better? This Lodge belongs to every member and all of you have valued opinions and ideas. I need your input so that we can all work together for the common good. Please feel free to approach me personally or send me an email at: [email protected] As the year progresses, I encourage all members to stand ready to assist and to share in the rewards of service to the community, to Elkdom and this wonderful Lodge. As other Lodges in this state and around the country are toughing it out to stay viable, we are fortunate to be thriving and moving forward. Thank you all for your confidence that I will lead and manage Burlington Lodge so that it will continue to prosper and grow as well as be known for the good works of charity and humanity in our community. Respectfully & Fraternally, Mary Paule Hill Exalted Ruler

BLOOD DRIVE
Many thanks to our Lodge members and neighbors for another successful blood drive on February 20th! The result was a drive that produced 27 productive units of blood from the 30 individuals that presented to donate. Along with giving movie theater tickets to each donor, John Hill gave us two $50 gift certificates to Koto Japanese Steak-house that were drawn at the end of the drive. Thank you very much as it may hap-pen again! To Dave Ploesser...it’s so great to know that you are always here to greet the Red Cross team to get everything going. The staff loves working with you, and for good reason - you are a very remarkable person! February was a terrible month for the Red Cross and they ended up about 400 units less than they had hoped for in Vermont. Our 270 units collected on our drives couldn’t be more welcome and timely for the health of the region’s blood supply! Hope to see you again on April 17th. Pssst...bring a friend!
With sincerest appreciation, Wilfred “Dizzy” Desilets, PER, Chairperson

BITS & PIECES
• The cold and callous hand of grief is once again squeezing the hearts of the membership. David Leavitt, the 40 year old son of member Bill Leavitt, tragically met his death last month while driv-ing on the ice of Malletts Bay. After an extensive search, David’s body was found. Bill’s many friends share with him the pain and sorrow that no kindness or well intentioned words can dispel. We pray that God will now watch over David, and the Leavitt family will be able to heal through this very difficult time. There will be a public remembrance of David’s life at Bayside Park in Colchester on Saturday, April 18th. The program will begin at 11:30am and will be under shelter on the waterfront side of Lakeshore Drive in Malletts Bay.
• Roland LeBlanc has one of those dogs that only weighs about five pounds soaking wet; closer to the size of a squirrel than a real dog. So, when Roland mentioned the other day that he was planning to have stir fry for dinner that evening, I couldn’t resist asking, “Oh, are you going to go home and wok your dog?”
• Did you hear about the girl who brought her clothesline to school with her? The man at the store told her it needed to be taut!
• My thanks to the many people that helped with the Moisan/Lilley Memorial Open. It’s true that many hands make for light work. Spe-cial thanks “of course” to greenskeeper, Ron LaRose. He spent many hours building all 18 holes, and has done a delightfully devi-ous job. (Especially, on #18, the Heartbreak Hill). We raised $1,200 which will be donated to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
