The Exalted Ruler’s Message
Our annual Elks Hoop Shoot was held at B.H.S. on December 1st. Mary Dillon, Chairperson put an extreme amount of time and effort into this great program. Thank you Mary, I know Paul was watching you all the way! Sunday, December 2nd, was our “Elks Memorial Service”. A very impressive service was put together by Ron LaRose, Trustee, PER, PSP and member Carl Lozon. Another superb buffet was prepared by our Chef John Plunkett and backup cook-dishwasher, Trustee Chris Bissonette. When everyone pulls together, things just seem to happen so easily. Thanks to all of you for making this day a memorable one.
I want to thank Jesse and Gail Mattison for heading up our Wassailing Night and bringing joy into the Lodge. One thing I know is that a foot and a half of snow doesn’t spoil a Christmas Party if Linda Hutchins puts her mind to it. Santa arrived on time and as always, the kids were pleased with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Thank you Linda, for pulling through on such a blustery day. I want to thank Bruce Fischer for not giving up on our Antler Program. We had a small group that joined us for a round table talk. Much enthusiasm was shared as the meeting went on. We treated them to Pizza after the meeting which everyone enjoyed! It is pretty amazing that we can see in two directions at once. The New Year gives us that ability. What do we want to celebrate . . . the year that is about to end, the year that is about to begin, or both? If you have high hopes that the incoming New Year will be a big improvement, then by all means jump to the head of the train and let’s ride together. On the other hand if you are pessimistic about what lies ahead, sit back and observe the surroundings, but by no means should you leave our train. Stay aboard and ride with us. Things might change. I want to thank my Officers and members for all their support in 2007. Pour the oil of encouragement on the wheels of progress and watch ‘em whirl. Happy New Year!

We do our best to include all pertinent information that our members would find interesting, however if the materials are not received by the Editor on or before the 15th of the month, there is a chance that they may not be included in the next issue due to the time needed to produce, print and mail the Bulletin. Our goal is to have it delivered to our members by the 1st of the following month.

Elks National Foundation Scholarship forms are available at www.elks.org and at the Lodge. Awards range from $1,000 to $15,000 per year. Interested in representing the Elks Lodge in the Annual Penguin Plunge? This year’s Penguin Plunge will be held at Burlington’s waterfront on Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at 11:00AM. We have consistently had a big turnout of Plungers---let’s make this year no exception. Registration forms are available at the Lodge bar.

Lighting of the Lodge
Once again, on November 23rd our Lodge celebrated the season with the lighting of a beautiful display of holiday lights that warms the hearts of motorists traveling on North Avenue. Congratulations to everyone that helped this year!
Afterwards, the Glen Enos Family enjoyed singing lots of Karaoke songs with Bon-nie.

• One evening in December Cookie left her car overnight. The following morning ER Diane Hazen picked her up and brought her back to the Lodge, where Cookie couldn’t find her car keys anywhere. Finally she asked Diane to bring her back home to get her spare set. This of course is where she found her keys, on her kitchen shelf. The point of this story is that Diane mercilessly teased Cookie all day about this forgetful incident, making sure to tell everyone Cookie knew to ask her about it. This is for you Cookie. Diane walked around here the night of the Lodge Christmas party claiming somebody had stolen her leather coat. She finally went home coatless. That’s right, you guessed it. It was in her closet. Funny you didn’t mention that to anyone Diane! • Did you hear about the man who dreamt he was a muffler? When he woke up he was exhausted! • What do you get when you cross a centipede with a parrot? A Walkie Talkie. • Speaking of walkie talkies, When Chris Bissonette was a boy, he got a set of Star Trek Walkie Talkies (Beam me up Chrissie!) His brother broke them that very day. Dear Ole Santa Claus, aka Hank Metevier, Lodge Chaplain, recently won a calcutta put on by Demag Riggers & R.R. Charlebois. After all fees were paid, Hank had $375. left over which he donated to Silver Towers Camp. Then Dave & Doug Demag matched him and then Ron Charlebois matched the dona-tion plus $25.00. ELDOES UPDATE
“Be the Best of Whoever You Are!”
On December 9th, we held
the Partners in Adventure Christmas party and a great time was had by all. I would like to thank Nancy Stone for chairing this event along with her team: Liz Drew, Bev Guest, Marion Howard, Con-nie Leccese, Bea Sylvia and Ellen Zak. A big thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus (Hank & Fran Metevier).
We expanded our fundraising efforts this year with 30 of us vol-unteering at Vermont Teddy Bear Co. We shared a lot of laughs folding those pajamas and dressing those bears. We are looking for-ward to the next time they are willing to let us invade their assembly lines. Good Work ELDOES!
