MOUNT CARMEL NEWS
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Blessings in the New Year!
I am writing today to alert you to a very subtle change in our weekly bulletin. Each week inside the front cover we repeat our mission statement. If you look this week, you will see a new statement in that spot. This statement was crafted by our newly re-organized Parish Advisory Board. The Board agreed that we needed to state the fact that we are a Catholic community. We also wanted to embrace the whole gamut of Catholic life and Christian service. Thus, the new mission statement.
Underneath the mission statement please take note of the proud declaration that reads:
“No matter who you are, no matter what you’ve done, no matter where you’re from, no matter where you’re going,
no matter how good or bad things seem, you are always welcome.”
This has been our published mission statement for several years and it packs a great punch. I would like you to know that our most recent newly registered parishioner signed up with us because of that statement – it made her feel welcome, so she tried out the experience of attending for a while in search of a new Church home in a welcoming community.
So, from now on we are going to publish both statements: our mission statement and our motto. I pray that we will each do our best to live out both to the best of our abilities.
Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
fr. Dan [email protected]

Preparing for the Rite of Confirmation: Renewal of Baptismal Promises
“After the bishop gives a Homily on the Sacrament of Confirmation, the third part of the Rite of Confirmation, the renewal of baptismal promises, is done. There are three Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Since Confirmation is celebrated in the context of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, those present will experience the unity of all three sacraments. Renewal of your baptismal promises shows the connection between Baptism and Confirmation…At the end, the bishop will confirm your profession of faith by saying ‘This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. We are proud to profess it in Christ Jesus our Lord.’”

This is an episode that fits within the perspective of the People of Israel’s special consecration to God.”

SHARING GOD’S BLESSINGS ANNUAL APPEAL 2017
The Annual Appeal is a way to raise money to fund the programs and ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark that impact tens of thousands of lives every year. Our parish receives a portion of the funds raised in achieving our goal. Pledge Sunday is February 26; our parish’s goal this year is $73,551. Your support of the Annual Appeal is appreciated.
Dear Elliot, Thank you for volunteering at the Family Promise Walk-In Dinner Program. We hope you will pass this along and extend our appreciation to all of the volunteers who participated with you. This program is vital to the homeless and hungry in our community and we couldn’t do it without you! We are so grateful for your time, your kindness, your generosity, your service, and the delicious, nutritious meals provided by the best volunteers in the world! Thanks to you, The Family Promise Walk-In Dinner Program has been running for over 25 years. In that time, over 1 million meals have been served! As you know, Family Promise is also the only organization in Bergen County dedicated to providing shelter and support to working families who become homeless. Since 1986, we have sheltered thousands of adults and children, adapting to their changing needs by creating programs to help them become self-sufficient. Our network of sheltering congregations and transitional apartments provide stability while the families receive intensive individual case management to help them realize their goal of true independence. With gratitude, Margo
