WHAT IS DVR® MOTOR TECHNOLOGY?DVR®, or Digital Variable Reluctance, is a Switch Reluctant Motor with unique technology developed and owned by Teknatool International. Through Intelligent Control, this variable speed motor ‘talks’ to the internal micro-computer constantly monitoring conditions, giving it the edge in comparison tests with a conventional motor.

Teknatool International Group introduces the future in variable speed electric motors with its DVR® Motor Technology. With features like Intelligent Control, Energy Effi ciency, high torque & power at low rpm, and a Wide Speed Range all packaged in a compact unit, Teknatool brings the future to you, today.

How does the DVR Motor work?

When you enter a speed command (1), the computerswitches on the coils in the stator (2). An intensemagnetic field is created, and the rotor tooth is pulled toline up with the magnetic force (3) then the next coil isswitched on, (pulling the spindle at the desired directionand speed range) and so on. All this is done very fastand accurately using computerised electronic switching.

Micro-computer

The DVR (DigitalVariable Reluctance) isthe simplest of motors. There are essentiallythree parts to it, theMicro-computer, theRotor and the Stator.

Stator: Electricitycarrying component, containing coppercoils. This providesthe intense magneticforce to turn thespindle.

Rotor:Extension of the headstockspindle. Solid steellaminations, no wires toburn.

Micro-computer: controlsswitching of coils, intelligentsensing (knows exact spindleposition at all times and constantlycomputing where spindle shouldbe - at 2000rpm it is computingspindle position at 400 times asecond or 24,000 per minute!).

SMART OPERATION:The DVR motor is digital, just like a computer. It can save and store speed information on different preset settings and switch from one to another immediately, with just the single press of a button.

This Smart Technology can also detect the input power resource, giving the DVR motor the ability to operate at a variety of different voltages (100v to 240v) and without further modifi cations being required.

POWERFUL AND EFFICIENT:The DVR’s micro-computer automatically detects the load on the output shaft, and adjusts power extraction according to the load. As a result, the DVR motor has its highest torque at lowest speed and has a fl atter torque curve over a wide range of speeds.

This unique characteristic means the DVR motor can be mounted directly to the output shaft, which allows it to achieve better output by eliminating the power lost in a traditional gears/belts and pulley drive system. (Typically, a belt driven machine has about 20% power loss just in the belt system alone!)

When the shaft is under a light load, the micro-computer will reduce the power extraction to save energy. Combine this with the energy saving from eliminating the belt and pulley system, and the DVR motor can save up to 80% energy over a conventional AC motor.

SAFETY:The DVR motor is monitored by the micro-computer constantly. In case of a sudden spindle lock, or unexpected sharp increase in load, the motor will automatically shut down power to the spindle to avoid any injury. There is further potential with this DVR motor to implement many more safety features determined by each customer’s requirements.

EXTENSIVE SPEED RANGE:A key advantage of this motor is its wide speed range. DVR Motor Technology has the capability to handle speeds from as little as 100rpm, right through to 10,000rpm (standard units, up to 100,000rpm in special designs), all in a versatile, compact package. (AC motor with inverter is only optimized at 1,500rpm).

CUSTOMIZABLE:Our standard DVR motor will be able to be used unmodifi ed for many different applications straight off the shelf. But our DVR Motor Technology can also be customized to suit your individual requirements. Adjustments such as Power Rating, Human Machine Interface (HMI), Speed Range, Safety Features, and much more.

RELIABLE: The Teknatool International group has already been researching and using this motor technology for over 10 years. Sold as a Wood lathe Motor under the reputable NOVA brand name, the DVR motor has had proven success in dusty conditions and in all kinds of environments in all corners of the globe; from freezing Alaska and Iceland, to tropical Australia and Central America. It is the technology of the future from a company you can trust.
