Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
The Gospel’s mandate and the unwaver-
ing emphasis of Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy is
that our love for God must be a reflection of
our love for one another, especially the weak
and vulnerable among us. Our Diocese’s an-
nual Catholic Ministries Appeal is a daily re-
sponse to that call and enables us to increase
our outreach to those most in need.
As the last few months of the 2016 Ap-
peal and Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy are upon
us, I am writing to ask that if you have not al-
ready done so, you would consider making a
donation to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Ap-
peal. You would be joining with me, with your
Pastor and with many of your neighbors, to
help bring God’s love and mercy to His people.
There are so many of our neighbors in
need of our help; your support will help us to
answer those calls.
Again, please join with us. I assure you
that as One Faith, Family and Community we
will make a lasting difference in the lives of
our brothers and sisters on Long Island.
With my prayers and gratitude, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Bishop of Rockville Centre

Academic excellence in a faith-filled environment
The SSCM Cross Country team hit the ground running even before the
school year got rolling! With Coach Amber Sanchez at the helm, the
team began meeting up in August to start training and learning the ins
and outs of what it takes to challenge themselves in the coming weeks
during the Cross Country season. Coach Sanchez is a triathlete, a group
fitness instructor and the mother of three boys at Saints Cyril and Metho-
dius and she has been volunteer coaching SSCM’s Cross Country team
for three years now.
The Catholic Middle School Athletic Association (CMSAA) provides a
structure for interscholastic athletic competition among middle schools
in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, offering a variety of sports each sea-
son, ranging from Baseball, Softball, Basketball and Soccer to Volley-
ball, Lacrosse, Bowling, and Cross Country.

Saints Cyril & Methodius School – Spotlight on SSCM Sports
SSCM Cross Country Team Hits the Ground Running!
OUR SCHOOL SPIRIT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT – CATCH IT!
In Cross Country running, teams and individuals run a race on open-
air courses over natural terrain. The courses vary in length, may in-
clude surfaces of grass and earth, pass through woodland, open coun-
try, and include hills, flat ground and sometimes gravel road. The
benefits of Cross Country are both mental and physical. Cross Coun-
try training builds versatility and stamina, with experience running
over a wide range of speeds and terrains.
Saints Cyril and Methodius has participated in CMSAA programs for
over seven years and this year’s Cross Country Team includes 16
middle school boys and girls, whose meets take them to a diverse
range of Long Island terrains and parks, such as Belmont Lake State
Park, Sunken Meadow, and Heckscher Park, to name a few. At the
heart of the CMSAA’s Mission Statement is their role in helping
develop well-rounded athletes, so the program’s coaches seek to pro-
mote physical endurance and good sportsmanship, while fostering
teamwork and Catholic values in all of their players.
For more information on SSCM, visit www.sscmweb.org or call
1.631.667.4044, ext 131. To learn more about the CMSAA pro-
grams, visit www.leaguelineup.com/cmsaa/.

Today’s theme is perseverance - Moses keeping his hands upraised throughout the battle, Paul urging Timothy to stay with the task of preaching and teaching, and the widow ap-pealing to the corrupt judge. To be faithful stewards of God’s gifts, we must persevere in the roles to which we are called.

One Faith – One Family – One Community 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal One Faith – One Family – One Community
It is only because of the generous support of tens of thousands of parishioners throughout the Dio-
cese that we are able to serve all of God’s people here on Long Island.
If you have already made your gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, please know how deeply grateful
we are for your generous support. If you have not yet made a gift, we prayerfully invite you to con-
sider doing so. As always, you have the option to make a pledge which would be payable over the
next few months.
Did you know that the Catholic Ministries Appeal makes it possible?
for us to join together as one Catholic family on Long Island to serve more than 600,000 people each year?

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
CONFERENCE
In the Gospel today Jesus tells his disciples to pray always
without becoming weary, and indeed, our prayer must always
be an expression of our love for God, our family, our world,
and especially for those who are suffering. Please say a special
prayer for the poor, the sick and the lonely who have no one to
pray for them.
The next conference meeting will be held on
October 17, 2016, in the Senior Center at 7:15 p.m.
If you, or anyone you know is in need of assistance,
please contact us at 631-667-4044 ext. 175, or at
Dear Friends of Outreach
We at outreach are thinking beyond Halloween and
preparing our pantry for Thanksgiving, one holiday
that’s a major endeavor for us. It presents a special challenge, because
we need to ask for more donations so that our families can enjoy, in
some measure, a meal with their loved ones that the rest of us take for
granted. Please remember the less fortunate this Thanksgiving, as you
always have, and help us supply them with any of the following;
A turkey Stuffing mix
Jarred gravy or powdered gravy mix Cranberry sauce
Canned yams or sweet potatoes Canned vegetables
Boxed mashed potatoes
Thank you to all who donate so generously. ‘WE need to be a church
that helps believers recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread and
those without bread’’
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
Coffee Boxed potatoes
Juice (large bottled) Peanut butter
Jelly Soup
Canned fruit Tea
Pasta meals in a can Rice
Mac n cheese Pasta
Beans Can Vegetables
Cookies Shampoo
Tuna Fish Bar soap
Napkins Tooth Paste
Tooth brushes Toilet Tissue
Paper towels Detergent
Food Store Gift Certificates are so important because they help us to
purchase meat and non perishable items.
Outreach is open Mon, Wed, and Friday from 10:00am to 3: pm for
intakes (BY APPOINTMENTS) and 1:00PM to 3: pm for Pantry.
We are also open the second Saturday of the month from
10:am to 12:noon for those that cannot come during the week.
Please pray for the homeless, the hungry and the poor.
God bless you, the Volunteers, and God Bless America.

To my dear Family of the Eucharist,
This week, the children did not have class so that they could enjoy their Columbus Day with their families! Once again as a reminder, due to
class sizes being full and lessons being four weeks under way, REGISTRA-
TION IS NOW CLOSED. ONLY LEVEL 1 REGISTRATION FORMS

Everyone who came was given a special prayer card that had a Blessing of St.
Francis with a spot to write their pet’s name to keep in a special place in their home. It was wonderful to meet everyone's special friends!
The parents, students and Catechists all love our app! Information
about our program, parish news and upcoming events are sent out every day! If we get a certain percentage of people to download it as soon as possible, we
will be entered to be in the running of winning a grant for our program! Those
new people who register will also be entered in the running to win a Starbucks gift card! Tell your friends and spread the word! If parents, students and Cate-
chists still want to download it, please call me at (631) 667-4044 ext. 145 or

The RCIA process will begin this Fall!
What is the RCIA?
The RCIA is a process by which non-Catholic adults, or Catholic adults who did not receive
all the Sacraments of Initiation, learn about the Catholic faith and gradually become full mem-
bers. Every year adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through the RCIA.
Do you know someone who has not been baptized and is interested in becoming a member of
the Catholic Church?
Any adult who has not been baptized and would like to begin the journey in preparation for
the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist), should call Deacon James
Murano at the Parish Center: 631-667-4044 x127.
This process is also for adults of other Christian faiths who have already been baptized.
Adult Catholics who never received First Eucharist and/or Confirmation:
If you are an adult Catholic who was baptized and for some reason never completed your Sacraments
of Initiation, you are invited into this process to help make that happen.
More volunteers are needed to be a part of our RCIA Team!
If you would like to help the candidates along their journey of faith during their time in this process,
please contact
Deacon James.
HOMELESS INITIATIVE Parishes and Churches in the Town of Babylon have been meeting over the past two (2)
years to discuss a Homeless Initiative during the cold winter months.
Two local parishes have agreed to house the homeless overnight one night a week be-
ginning in December.
We will be serving a hot meal at night and breakfast in the morning. Additionally, we
will be sending them off with a bag lunch. Many hands will make light work and we
can use some more.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact Jane McMahon at (516) 816-1930
