Dear parishioners and friends in Christ,
Many exciting events are scheduled for the weeks ahead. I am looking forward to the School’s Auction this Saturday, April 29 and to the Annual Msgr. Rooney Golf Outing June 1st-Please see this bulletin for details.
Our 8th graders completed their qualifying interviews this past week and will be participating in their required retreat this week. Keep these young man and women in your prayers as they finish their preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation on May 25th. Also keep in your prayers our second graders who will be receiving First Holy Communion throughout the month of May. My thanks to all of our wonderful catechists and teachers who assist in preparing our young parishioners for these sacraments of Christian Initiation.
We received a “thank you” letter for our collection of children's’ clothing and household items for Hattian Relief. The baby bottles with your Lenten donations for the Life Center were picked up this past week. Thank you for your gen-erosity once again this year.
If you have not already done so, please consider a donation to this year’s Catholic Minis-tries Appeal. Your tax deductible sacrifice can do so much for so many. And remember that a substantial rebate comes back to our own Parish upon reaching our goal. This much needed rebate will help us to fund improvements with the light-ing in the main body of the church.
Our very own Saints Cyril and Methodius Parochial Elementary School is now registering students for the Fall ‘17 semester. With an excel-lent, experienced faculty, affordable tuition, and a Gospel centered atmosphere our Parish School might be just what you are looking for your child. Give Sister Susan Snyder a call to schedule a tour (667-4044 ex. 133)/
Have a great week and God bless!

Temporary Suspension of Communion Chalice
Please be considerate of your fellow parishioners and refrain from sharing the Communion chalice at Mass if you are ill or exposed to the flu at home. Likewise, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Com-munion should thoroughly wash their hands before administering Holy Communion, and should refrain from ministering if they are symptomatic or exposed to the flu at home. And you are certainly encouraged to smile and nod a greeting of peace rather than shak-ing hands before receiving Holy Communion. Please use pru-dence and common sense precautions in this cold and flu season!

The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked and talked with Jesus all day, but it was not until they offered Him hospitality and He blessed and broke the bread that they recog-nized Him. Simple acts of loving kindness still reveal the presence of God in our midst.

For the elderly on Long Island, Meals-on-Wheels is a lifesaver. Every weekday, the program delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors who are homebound in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Meals-on-Wheels case managers can also assist these clients in ac-cessing other services they might need. “I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw him,” explains Steve, a driver for Catholic Charities’ Meals-on-Wheels. Steve had been delivering meals to Ed for several years and upon arriving that fateful day, immediately observed that he seemed disori-ented.
Steve knew Ed was diabetic, so he checked his blood sugar and saw that it was low. He poured him some orange juice but sensed there was something more serious going on. “I kept asking him to let me call 911 but he resisted. I couldn’t accept that so I just casually stuck around, making my case. He finally admitted that he didn’t have anyone to care for his dog if he was hospital-ized, so I promised I would, and that’s when he gave me the green light to call.” It was a good thing, too. At the hospital Ed was diagnosed with a serious blood infection that kept him there for nearly four months. In the meantime, Steve cared for the dog until Ed’s sister arrived from out of town.
Your gifts to the Catholic Ministries Appeal support so many programs that help us to serve our seniors and others who come to us for help each day.
Please consider donating to the Appeal and making a difference in the lives of others.
Thank You!

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
CONFERENCE
In today's Gospel, as we hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we also come to know that our daily reach-ing out to our neighbors is our daily walk with the risen Christ; we recognize him in others. Next weekend, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be conducting a diaper drive. Please bring your donation of diapers and baby wipes, and place them in the collection boxes that will be available at the entrances to the Church. The collection will take place at all of the Masses, except for the 6:00 pm Mass on Sunday. The diapers and wipes will be used to benefit needy families in our Parish, and throughout the Diocese.
If you, or anyone you know is in need of assistance, please contact us at 631-667-4044 ext. 175, or at
The next conference meeting will be on May 3, 2017, at 7:15 p.m. in the Senior Center.
Dear Friends of Outreach,
The Washington Post quoted this from a person in need: Poverty is not about laziness or a lack of intelligence. I don’t know a single person who looks forward to standing in line at a food bank, using an EBT card at the grocery store or explaining to their kids why the electricity was shut off. These are not choices anyone would make… I wake up every morning worrying about how my kids will get enough to eat. Here is a constant, overwhelming stress!! Lets pray for all these people and do all we can to help those in our community May God Bless each and every one of you.
