the watchers

I, Enoch, a righteous man

whose eyes were opened

by god saw the vision of

the holy one in the

heavens which the angels

showed me and from

them I understood what I

saw, not for this generation

but for a far off generation which is to come.

And the eternal god will tread

upon Mount Sinai and appear

with his hosts from the heaven

of heavens and all shall be

smitten with fear and the

watchers shall tremble and

great fear and quaking shall

seize them unto the end of the earth.

And it happened in those days

that when the children of men

had multiplied, lovely and

desirable daughters were born to

them and the Watchers, the sons

of heaven, saw and lusted after

them and said to each other: let

us choose wives from among the

daughters of men and have children with them.

Then their leader Samyaza said

to them: I fear that you will not

be willing to carry out this

enterprise and that I alone shall

suffer for so terrible a crime but

they answered: we will swear

and bind ourselves with a curse

that we will not abandon this plan.

And they swore

together and

bound each other

with a curse and

they were in all two

hundred who

ascended in the

days of Jared on

the summit of Mount Hermon.

And these were the

names of their leaders:

Samyaza, their chief

Artooph

Ramtel

Kokabel

Ramel

Danieal

Zeqiel

Baraqel

Asael

Hermoni

Matarel

Ananel

Stawel

Samsiel

Sahriel

Tummiel

Turiel

Yomiel

Yhaddiel

These were the

leaders of the two

hundred Watchers

and all the others were with them.

Each of them took the wife of

their choice to cohabit with

and they taught them spells

and enchantments and the cutting of roots and trees.

And the women became

pregnant by the Watchers

and gave birth to a race of

giants, each a hundred and

fifty metres tall, who

devoured all the fruits of the

labour of humans until it

became impossible to feed them.

Then they turned themselves

against men in order to

devour them and began to

harm the birds, beasts,

reptiles and fishes, to eat their

flesh one after another and drink their blood.

Then the earth

complained of the evil race.

And Azazyel taught men to

make swords and knives and

shields and breastplates and

made known to them the

metals of the earth and the

art of working them into

bracelets and ornaments, the

use of antinomy to beautify

the eyes and all kinds of precious gems.

And there was much evil

and fornication and

their ways were corrupted.

Amazarak taught

all the sorcerers

and dividers of roots.

Armers taught the

secrets of sorcery.

Barkayal taught astrology.

Akibeel taught signs.

Tamiel taught astronomy.

And Asaradel taught the motion of the moon.

And mankind cried

out in distraction

and their voices

reached to

heaven.

Then Michael and Gabriel,

Raphael, Suryal and Uriel

looked down from heaven and

saw all the blood being spilt on

earth and all the sins

committed on it and said to

each other: the earth deprived

of her children has cried all the way to the gate of heaven.

And the lord said to Raphael: bind

Azazyel hand and foot and cast

him into the darkness. Make an

opening in the desert of Dudael

and throw him in. Put sharp and

jagged rocks on him and cover him

with darkness. Let him abide there

for ever and cover his face so that

he can see no light and on the day

of the great judgement he shall be

thrown into the fire.

Heal the earth which the

Watchers have corrupted

and announce life to it so that I can restore it.

All the sons of men shall not die

because of the secrets the

Watchers have taught them and their offspring.

The earth has been corrupted

by the effects of the teaching of

Azazyel. To him therefore ascribe the whole crime.

And to Gabriel the lord also said:

go to the bastard children, to

those cast out and destroy the

children of fornication, the

offspring of the Watchers. Set

them against each other and let

them die by the slaughter of

each other, for the length of days shall not be theirs.

Then the lord said to Michael: go and

announce his sins to Samyaza and

those with him who have cohabited

with women and defiled them and

when all their sons have killed each

other and they have seen their loved

ones destroyed, bind them for

seventy generations underground

until the day of judgement when

they will be burned in the fire and locked in eternal prison.

And destroy all the offspring

of lust and the children of

the Watchers because they have wronged mankind.

Destroy all wrong from the

face of the earth and let

every evil end, let the tree of

righteousness and truth bloom.

And it shall prove a

blessing and a joy for ever.
