Summer 2012 Softball Yearbook - 3
Stacy Gunning-CharboneauTi Youth Softball President
T I C O N D E R O G A — Ti c o n d e r o g aYouth Softball had nearly 90 girls play-ing in the summer of 2012 as theymarked their 25th anniversary.
The league featured eight teams thisyear, having four minors with 10 kidseach and four majors with 12 kids each.
The minor teams consisted of theDevils, Angels, Gators and Blackhawksand the majors were the Panthers,Bulldogs, Sharks and Wolves.
Over the past couple of years, wehave been restructuring the league andits rules. We feel we have come up witha good set of rules and have expandedthe age requirements to include morechildren. We now have a solid base tocontinue building our league on, hope-fully for many years to come.
This year our officers are: President,Stacy Gunning-Charboneau; VicePresident, Scott Montville; Secretary,Mike Bruce; and Treasurer, KaseyPaige.
We had eight managers: KeithDolbeck, Tom Dorsett, Kiwi James,Jamie Waldron, Scott Montville,Sharron Dorsett, Rick Merrill, andStacy Gunning-Charboneau.
We have a very dedicated team work-ing together to get a lot done over eachseason. We also have several coachesthat work with the girls and put a lot oftime and hard work in each season.
In 2012, we added a batting cage, putin with the help of Bridge PointCommunication (Anthony & ShanaMacey), of Crown Point, Dan Scuderiand Steve Palmer for welding. Togetherwith many of our league volunteers, itcame together very nicely and early inthe season. The girls really needed abatting cage closer to the field, and ithas definitely gotten a lot of use thisyear.
As we end another season, I wouldlike to take a moment to thank the vol-unteers, coaches, managers, parentsand children for making this anothersuccessful year.
Without the local and surroundingcommunities’ support, we would not beable to have this program possible, andI would like to thank all who supportus. There are many things that go into aleague that people do not see, and weappreciate all that is done. We arealways looking for volunteers and newideas, so please contact us if anyone isinterested.

By Keith DolbeckTICONDEROGA — I was
acting chairperson for theYouth Commission afterRichard Hathaway resignedand Marty Anderson, ElliotShaw and I asked the commis-sion to sponsor a youth soft-ball program that summer.
We started out with twoteams: the Purple Pantherscoached by Dolbeck andAndersen and the PinkPythons coached by Shaw. Weeach had daughters (SarahDolbeck, Caron Andersen and
Michelle Shaw) at the timewho wanted to play softballand NO opportunities existed. That is why we started theleague.
We practiced a great dealand played each other threetimes.
I was also the Ti VarsitySoftball coach at the time andwanted to get a league startedso that we would eventuallyhave a feeder program for highschool softball like LittleLeague was for high schoolbaseball.
After the first year, I turnedthe program over completelyto Marty Andersen, and he ranthe program very successfullyfor 15 years. Without Marty’sleadership and energy, the pro-gram would have died, as verylimited funding was availablethrough the YouthCommission. Marty was alsoresponsible for getting thetown and IP together andbuilding the present third soft-ball field.
After a few years, the YouthCommission Softball Programgrew to nine teams of approxi-mately 12 girls per team. That’s over 100 girls ages 8-12playing softball where just afew years earlier, there were noopportunities.
Throughout the years, theleague had many wonderfulvolunteers who coached andhelped the league be the suc-cess that it is today.
Within five or six years, theTiconderoga girls high schoolsoftball had a JV and aModified program where earli-er there was only a Varsity pro-gram. After a few more years,Ticonderoga dominated theChamplain Valley High SchoolSoftball League and has beenranked in the top 10 in Class Cfor the past 15 years.
After retiring from highschool, coaching for last 10years, I came back to managemy old team, the PurplePanthers in 2012, 25 yearslater. The team achieved a per-fect record of 9-0.
