The end of my term is

drawing near and it certainly has

been an exciting one. Especially the

recent issue that came to light in

May. This has given us an

opportunity to get familiar with other

aspects of Nevada Code, and

having to form a special committee

has been a diversion from our

routine . I think the committee will

do an first-rate job of recommending

a sound solution. Just remember, this is a Nellis Lodge

matter and need not go outside as per our bylaws.

The summer has been busy with Child ID and

DeMolay events and my regular schedule. I hope all

enjoyed the movie over the summer at the beer and brats.

A lot of Birthdays over the summer and wish all had a

Happy Birthday. We are still working on getting the trestle

board out electronically, we have about half the e-mails of

the brothers and hope to have this resolved soon. The

rest of the year is on the calendar and subject to change

so please contribute to your lodge when you can. We are

a Volunteer organization and volunteer ourselves to many

causes. You do not need the Lodge to pick your cause.

There are many rewards in giving and the feelings inside,

there are no words to express them.

And as always keep family, work and God first

before Masonry.

Fraternally, Michael J. Clark W.M.

First, let me thank all those who helped with fireworks booth. I know it can be tough working in the heat. I would like to give a special shout out to our senior deacon and his wife, along with our junior warden and treasurer. They put special efforts into the booth and their hard work is especially appreciated. For many it was a time away from the lodge during the hot summer. Hopefully, as cooler weather comes into our valley it bring with it a new commitment to the work of masonry - brotherhood and fellowship.

We're an organization that from its inception has been about the fight for the freedom to express passion through reason, thereby bringing enlightenment to the world and hopefully peace. It's my fervent hope that our lodge will continue this tradition and give masonry in Nevada the right to continue the same. Masonry cannot and does not LIVE in a vacuum, it must be an extant organization that holds fast to its ideals of brotherly love and enlightenment through reason. It must be passionate about holding up ideals of righteousness and the character of a man, without falling into the trap of becoming ill-tolerant and believing that there is only one way to that righteousness. To be an extant body you must live in the moment. The past is there to guide us and hopefully enlighten us, but the moment is where we make our future. We must always remember that. God bless and may we all look to our shared destiny.

Fraternally

MASONIC LIGHT

by the Rev. Dr. James M. Floyd, Jr., MPS Evergreen Lodge No. 713, F. & A.M.

Dwight L. Smith Lodge of Research, U.D., Indiana F. & A.M

Are you a source of light, or of darkness?

We create our own reality. What we expect from life is what we receive. If we expect and look for the trouble, disagreement, and negativity in situations that is what we are sure to find. If however, we expect and look for the good, cooperative, and positive outcomes in situations that is what we will experience.

Life cannot, and does not always go smoothly. We cannot appreciate the good times and the joys that life brings without the rough times and the sadness that must cross our path on occasion. It is our response to these times that defines who we are.

Brothers, I am guilty of being a source of darkness. That is, in seeing and focusing only on the problems in lodge that I perceive need to be corrected. And in being privy to, and a part of, the occasional personality conflicts that are destined to arise in any group.

Yes, there are problems in every lodge. Yes, we do not always agree with, or get along with each other. This has always been, and always will be. But we cannot be negative about these difficulties. Our negative thoughts are like a cancer which spreads and weakens us, and those around us, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

It is easy to fall into the trap of negativity or darkness. But, with effort on our part, and the assistance of the G.A.O.T.U., we can instead choose to open our eyes to the light. My Brothers, that light is Brotherly love. Love is being positive and expecting the best life has to offer. Love is knowing that, although our human frailties will result in disagreement, where there is hope and understanding there can be the peace and harmony to work together towards a common goal.

So, for the sake of the Fraternity and your well-being, I urge you to make the commitment to change your life, to become a source of Masonic Light, that, like the Sun in the heavens, all the world can see.

The beauty of the number 360, when the circle is divided by so

many increments, is that it is divisible by the first counting numbers:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, and the result a whole number:

360/1=360

360/2=180

360/3=120

360/4=90

360/5=72

360/6=60

360/8=45

360/9=40

360/10=36

360/12=30

Notice the numbers 7 and 11 are not on the list. The number 360

can be divided by 7 and 11, but the results are not whole numbers.

When 360 is divided by 7 the result is:

51.428571428571428571428571428571

That’s the answer given by a calculator. It appears to be the

maximum decimal units the calculator is capable of displaying, which

means the number is probably indefinite, like Pi. What makes the

septile division of the circle (360/7) special is that it is approximately

52, which is the number of weeks in a year. We know that the

average length of the year is 365.25 days. If we divide that number

by seven, the result is:

7.0240

Or, only twenty-four thousandths (not much) more than the whole

number seven, the number of days in a week.

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he

had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which

he had made.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

The length of the year is 365.25 days. If each day were a “degree” of a

circle, and the circle marked with 365.25 increments, it would differ by less

than 2% from an exact 360 degree circle used in geometry. Was it by

chance that ancient geometricians observed that the number 360 more

nearly approaches the number of days in a year, and contains the first

counting numbers as factors, than any other number, leading to the divi-

sion of the circle into 360 degrees for the purpose of geometry?

FREEDOM

by William R. Fischer

Freedom is a tough subject, mainly because some people think being free means that you can do whatever you want. Most of us know that is not true. What freedom really means, is that you are able to express yourself as you see fit, without interference by the government or anyone else, as long as you do no harm to others.

There are political freedoms which will not be discussed here.

Freedom as a state of mind is much more powerful than any physical containment. To lose the body is to lose your worldly life but to lose control of your thoughts to another is definitely hell on earth for a free man. Think of those who were con-fined for years and when released, became a true leader of men. Their minds were free to think of what could be, rather than what is. They opened up their eyes to the possibility that, there is more than what was before them.

In Masonry freedom is defined as being free from the domin-ion of passion, pride, prejudice and all the other follies of hu-man nature. We are also free from the false delusion that we need not be obedient to the laws.

As Masons we do not disobey the law. As individuals we help change the law or write new ones for the good of all. This is the way we became free. This is the way we will stay free physically, mentally and spiritually.
