Quantitative Audience Research
Quantitative research is using questionnaires and surveys to find out a quantity or a numerical figure of how many people watch, listen to or do certain things – for example “after asking 100 people 64% said that they do not like tennis”
A good way of remember thing is “quantity” because you’re getting an idea of how many people are doing such and such.

Audience Profiling
What is ‘Mainstream’?
The term ‘mainstream’ usually links with pop culture and media culture. Things that are popular among many is classed as mainstream – Video games, movies, books, music and fashion can all be mainstream.
Minecraft recently became one of the big titles in the mainstream market, because of it’s originality and initiative design. Many people instantly know what a creeper is when it is said or seen, even if they don’t play Minecraft.

What is ‘Niche’?
The term ‘niche’ is used to point out a select group of people who like/enjoy a certain thing, like the previous this can include a variety of media including video games to fashion. Independent companies are usually the ones who have a niche audience, mainly because they haven’t been discovered by more people.
Minecraft back in 2011 would have been a good example of the niche market, however the game grew faster than anyone could imagine and has recently become one of the biggest indie games in all time making it mainstream - being distributed on consoles, phones and having it’s own merchandise range.
