Application• So how will our music video apply to our audience?

• We plan on using part of Blumler and Katz’s theory of uses and gratifications.

They developed this theory in 1974 and we want to use it to help define our audience.

The reasonsThis theory suggests that audiences use media texts for various reasons; here are those suggestions:

1. Diversion (escapism)- To escape from everyday life.

2. Personal relationships (social interaction)- The use of a media text for emotional use and other interaction.

3. Personal identity (create their own identity) – from characters or celebrities- in order to help find themselves.

4. Entertainment- use of relaxation, enjoyment, and emotional release.

5. Surveillance- To gain information and knowledge.
