PHYSICAL SCIENCE

TAKE NOTES ON THIS IN YOUR SCIENCE SPIRAL

Homework was: CH 15 – VIDEO VOCAB FROM 15.7 AND 15.8============================Fyi - ALL MAKEUP TESTS WILL BE DIFFERENT – THE WHOLE CHAPTER IS FAIR GAME = Math&Science.

TODAY = RQ & VOCAB 12 QUIZTHENHW = RQ 11-20CHECK ON WEEBLY FOR ANSWERS THENSTUDYTEST MONDAY ON CH 15 RQ NO NOTES…WORD BANK YES.CH 15 RQ ANSWERS – TEST IS MONDAY:Chapter 15 Answers and Solutions REVIEW QUESTIONS 1. Which atom is most plentiful in the universe? Hydrogen. 2. What was the source of motion in the particles that Brown investigated? Atoms bumping into the particles. CORRESPONDS 3. Is it possible to see an atom using visible light? No. Atoms are smaller than the wavelengths of visible light and so cannot be seen using any visible light microscope.

4. What type of microscope allows us to visualize the positions of individual atoms? The scanning probe microscope. 5. What is at the center of every atom? The atomic nucleus. 6. Why is pure gold classified as an element? Pure gold consists of only one type of atom, which is the gold atom. 7. What is the atomic symbol for the element cobalt? As can be found in the periodic table, the atomic symbol for the element cobalt is Co. 8. How many periods are there in the periodic table? The periodic table has 7 periods. 9. How many groups are there in the periodic table? The periodic table has 18 groups. 10. What happens to the properties of elements across any period of the periodic table? Across any period, the properties of elements gradually change. 11. What role does atomic number play in the periodic table? Elements are listed in the periodic table in order of increasing atomic number. 12. What is a nucleon?

A nucleon is a subatomic particle of the atomic nucleus. This includes the proton and the neutron.

13. Distinguish between a proton and a neutron in terms of electric charge. Proton has one unit of charge, neutron has none. 14. What occurs for two atoms to be isotopes of each other? Two atoms are isotopes of each other when they have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. 15. Distinguish between atomic number and mass number. Atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus. Mass number is the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. 16. Distinguish between mass number and atomic mass. Mass number is the count of nucleons in an isotope. Atomic mass is a measure of the total mass of an atom. 17. How many nucleons are there in Hyrogen-3? Three. 18. How many shells are needed to explain the periodic table? Seven. 19. Which electrons are most responsible for the properties of an atom?

The electrons in the outer most shell of an atom, called the valence electrons, are the ones most responsible for the properties of an atom. 20. What is the relationship between the maximum number of electrons each shell can hold and the number of elements in each period of the periodic table? The number of electrons that each shell can hold corresponds to the number of elements in the period.

PreCalculus

Glogs due Monday.Remember – all odds must be done then checked then corrected if wrong.

Mark odds with a check or an ‘x’ as you grade them AT HOME…else they are wrong.

TODAY’S DATE & page # IN UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF YOUR SPIRAL PAGE

EACH DAY GET A NEW PAGE IN YOUR SPIRAL

Be neat and if you use the Holt online graphing calc then you must print and turn it in too.HW WAS: P.300 # 1-6 ALL & 9-15 ODDS

A polynomial function is continuous – It is an unbroken curve – no corners…No jumps, no gaps, no holes.Master that and all that from 4.3

P.300 ANSWERS TO HW:

2 = 9 + 10i 4 = 12i 6 = (√3 + √5) – i

Any questions? 10 answers = -10 each

On 1-6 you just combine like terms…CLT.On 9-15 you FOIL and CLT remembering that

i = √-1 … and i2 = -1

QUIZ = PUT ALL AWAY EXCEPT PENCIL & CALC & NBP 2 SHEETS – READY SET GO!1-4 LC=, CT=, D=PART 2 = YES OR NO.
