It all happened on Thursday. I was at the pool with my friends after a swim meet, and we were playing a game which (because of my concussion) I dont remember the name of. Then, after I had lost and was getting out to be it, I stood up (still in the water) to tell my friends something when I saw something coming closer to me. I dont really remember anything after that, but from my memory and what my friends told me, a kid had jumped on my head. I went to camp on Friday, I was feeling pretty bad (a headache and nausea) so my mom called the doctor and they told me that I had a concussion. Sunday morning I went to the doctor and did a lot of tests and they said not to go to camp. So, I skipped Monday. Then, I went for the first two periods yesterday, but Im not going to camp today, but since I can write and someone can send this in for me, I decided to write it.

How do Computers Work?By Alexander Hailman

How do computers work? Well, to start with, electricity powers microscopic switches called transistors to switch on and off, as well as electrical signal to travel between different chips of transistors to tell them which ones to turn on and off. This is how the binary system works; each 0 represents an off transistor, whereas a 1 is an on transistor. Every 1 or 0 is a bit. Computer code (in such languages as Java and C++) is translated into 1s and 0s. Each letter or symbol is a group of 8 1s or 0s, called a byte. The computer part itself connects to other devices, called peripherals. The peripherals can help you tell the computer what to do, like mice or keyboards, or they can convey information from the computer, such as screens or speakers. Some modern computers have most or all of these peripherals built in, though, especially laptops.

To know how computers store and process this information, though, youll need to look at what parts a computer and what they do. The bulk of the data storage is on a hard drive, which is a disk of magnetized particles that go up and down to store binary data (much more efficient than transistors). It stores data such as documents and photos, but also the code of the programs or applications that you can run, or execute (hence .exe files). These programs are executed by the CPU, or processor. Other temporary data is stored in the computers RAM. Sometimes, if the temporary data isnt used, and theres too much for the RAM, the CPU redirects it to the hard drive. This is why people often talk about how many kilobytes, megabytes, or gigabytes of RAM a computer has. A PCI is a chip that connects to ports (such as USB ports) that allows peripherals to connect to the motherboard of the computer, which is a large chip that routes information to different parts of the computer. Sometimes a PCI can be internal, if the peripheral is built in. Between the PCI and the motherboard, though, there is probably a graphics card. This interprets how the screens pixels should display. Each pixel is made of three tiny, different-colored lights that each glow a different amount, tricking our eyes into mixing them up into a specific color. Now, all of this is a lot of parts, because the computer is constantly taking information, storing it, processing it, interpreting it, and displaying (or playing) it. Thus, theres always a fan inside the computer to keep it from overheating. This is why computers make that familiar whirring sound when they boot up, or when they have a particularly difficult task to do.

Computers are very complicated, and Ive probably missed a few things, but as I said in some other article, I hope Ive enlightened you!

The crocodile cant find a jobBy Patricia Arens

A long time ago, I met this friendly crocodile (named Croco). He was very talented and able to play a lot of instruments: the piano, the guitar, the drums and many others. He was also very good at magic tricks; the best magician Ive ever seen! Croco was a scientist, too. So, you see, he had a lot of talents and hobbies. But he had one problem: everybody was afraid of him, because he was a crocodile! No one was patient enough to wait and see how many good qualities Croco had. So, our poor crocodile didnt have any friends. His family lived far away, near a river in Africa. This means that Croco was on his own. He couldnt even find a job, because, like I said before, everybody was afraid of his looks. People always judge a book by its cover, and this is not right. Creatures like Croco will always be ignored.

But since Croco was a crocodile, he couldnt understand these facts. He thought he was ugly and he used to stay inside all day long! I first met him near a tennis court, at night. He looked friendly, but sad. Then he told me his lonely story. I decided I had to help him. But what could I do I bought Croco some nice pants,a nice shirts and a necktie. Now he looked exactly like a respected business man! As soon as he went outside, a NASA member told Croco they were looking for somebody to work for them. After some long interviews and a lot of work, our crocodile got hired at NASA. Since then, he has been into Space at least twice, because he is so smart. But was he appreciated for his intelligence before, when he looked scary? Not really

Croco thanks me a lot for my nice idea. He is very happy with his amazing job. He has worked a lot to get hired there. Now he works even more! And the best thing is that nobody judges him anymore because of his looks...

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation: This ranges around $11 and this product covers really well while making your look gorgeous!!

Maybelline Fit Concealer: Its great for hiding dark circles and it ranges to about $5 dollars!

Milani Minerals Blush: Blush and Mascara are my favorite makeup, so I absolutely loves this. It is a beautiful pink that makes a real glow on your cheeks, plus it ranges around $6-9!

NYX Powder Blush: It adds colour without too much shimmer and it is about $5-6.

NYX Rouge Cream Blush: Now, I dont usually like cream blush but I make an exception to this. This blush gives you dewy cheeks but you dont look oily so I absolutely love that and it is about $5.

Yesterday in the Daily Double room during third period, there was a styrofoam box placed on top of the printer. Inside there were delicious smelling french fries from Isabellas/Dover Deli. When I asked for one, Walker said that they were counselor and CIT only french fries. They smelled so good! And, they were clearly a violation of the strict no food policy in the computer lab. Several of us stared at the box, but they did not relent. Finally lunch rolled around and we were all happy to have something to eat, but we still felt that having the french fries wasnt fair to the campers.

Hey lovelies! Ready to learn how to rule this school year without being an absolute Queen Bee? You are at the right place! :D

1. Expand your circles of friends: Friends are the best, and most amazing things EVER! You can chat up those girls you want to be friends with but havent got a chance to talk to.

2. Sign up for clubs: Signing up for clubs are great ways to get new friends. I am signed in the Yearbook and Debate club and they are so much fun (or I am sure they will be because I havent gotten to be in it yet because I am just going into 9th grade)

3. Beware over extending yourself: Be careful, remember. You will get stressed. And that isnt good. Just balance things out, dont do too much.

4. Dont hold a grudge: Yeah, she may have told your crush you like him. But that was in the past. Quote Elsa here, THE PAST IS IN THE PAAASSSTTT!!!! So get over it and dont let it ruin a possibly great friendship! Start fresh!

5. Be supportive: Support your friends, family, and yourself! Be supportive to them like you would hope they would be to you.

6. Raise your hand in class: Dont do it in a snobby know-it-all way, but if you know the answer, dont be shy to raise your hand!

7. Get rid of cliques: No one cares who the populars, or the geeks, or the jocks are. You can all be friends.

8. Lunch seats: Dont sit in one spot and act as if there are assigned seats. Also, if you want to expand circles, sit with others and get to know them.

9. Dont talk just through phone: Dont be on your phone 24/7. If someone is talking to you, put it down and look at them, and TALK.

10. Dont hold yourself back: Dont make excuses not to do something, think about how much fun this thing you are missing out could be!

11. SMILE!: if you wanna be noticed, well, no better way is there than smiling. It shows you are a kind person, and happy to be there and see them. It will make people happy to see someone giving them a warm smile! :) :D

12. Show up to your besties events: Time is the best gift to give.

13. Help the new and lost: I was a new kid once so I remember how hard it was fitting in. If you see someone confused or upset, invite them with you and help them out. Help someone how you would of liked to be helped.

14. Stop with the Gossip: No one likes gossip. Its mean, ugly, and LIES.

15. Be the Host: Make some group events! Invite people to your house or to go to the mall. Be the driver, be the conversation starter. Be the fun person! xD

16. Volunteer: I dont mean volunteering at a food kitchen (Which is good) but during class, if a teacher or student asks for first, raise your hand and volunteer yourself.

17. Watch the Body Language: You want to rule, keep that head high, dont roll those eyes and slouch. Walk with pride and happiness. And dont be rude with your body towards others. Wrap your arm around them, dont push them.

18. Be stocked: Be the person everyone goes to when they need a extra pen or piece of paper or other things.

19. HAVE FUN!: School isnt ALL that bad. It isnt your favorite place, but have some fun with everyone!

LOGAN VS PIZ SMACKDOWN

*deep sigh* THIS ONES GONNA BE TOUGH.So, anyone who has ever seen the entirety of Veronica Mars knows that theres one thing that splits the fandom in half: Team Logan or Team Piz? There is that chunk of Marshmallows that cant decide, though. This isnt like Edward and Jacob. VMars is definitely better quality entertainment, which makes the decision harder. Here, Ill discuss my thoughts on both characters. Lets rock!Piz: Sweet, dorky Piz, how could anyone dislike you? Sure, hes not as fleshed-out as Logan, but hes much less problematic. Piz is witty, caring, and creative, and the perfect stable relationship for Veronica. Their romance didnt last long, but it was frickin adorable. Seriously, these two nerds. The downsides? Well, he did beat up Logan that one time, but that was Logans fault. Okay, Piz has no flaws except being a bit awkward sometimes. Im out of ideas. Is that a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, Piz must be protected at all costs. Logan: *long pause* Logan is the most problematic character in TV history. That said, hes a cinnamon roll (a sinnamon roll, if you will). Hes obnoxious, a liar, and reckless, but hes also compassionate, funny, and loving. You can see why Im torn about this. Even though he and Veronica broke up 58,194,312 times, their relationship was more (to quote Logan) epic, and maybe more concrete than when she was with Piz. Faults? Ugh, so many. Sneaky, lying, impulsive, obnoxious, and about ten other things. That said, his flaws make him more of a person. If I had to choose which of the two is more concrete, it would be Logan for sure. FINAL THOUGHTS: I cant choose. Really, I cant. I like Piz more as a person, but Logan is more realistic. Send help. Ill have to consult my other Marshmallow friend. When I finally decide Ill tell you. *falls into a vortex of existential dread*

On Tuesday, July 21st, Samuel Urban announced that he would be suing such companies as Urban Outfitters, Urban Decay, and Urban Dictionary for copyright abuse based on his name. Although this was met with suspicion and doubt (on such person has been quoted as saying Is your name copyrighted?) he persevered and soon ended up in national civil dispute court. Although his lawyer thought he was an idiot, she was payed a lot, and if youre a lawyer, thats what matters. Once he went to court, however, he was soon shot down. Citing is a powerful thing. According to a U.S. government website, Under section 102 of the Copyright Act (title 17 of the U.S.Code), copyright protection extends only to original works of authorship. The statute states clearly that ideas and concepts cannot be protected by copyright. To be protected by copyright, a work must contain a certain minimum amount of authorship in the form of original literary, musical, pictorial, or graphic expression. Names, titles, and other short phrases do not meet these requirements. Although these companies probably named themselves after Sam without his permission, thats technically perfectly legal. Urban was not actually an adjective until these bodies took it as their name and pretended it meant in, relating to, or characteristic of a city or town. However, thats what it means now, and theres no turning back. Sam Urban deserves some compensation, even if it is extralegal.

The movie, AMY, directed by Asif Kepadia, begins with the late Amy Winehouse singing Happy Birthday to her friend Lauren. It then fast forwards to Amys first album, Frank. It shows the success she had, until she met her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. Amy lives normally until Blake breaks up with her. She begins writing her album, Back to Black. It then shows Blake getting back together with Amy. He introduces her to heavy drugs, and Amy begins to downwards spiral. She couldnt write anymore lyrics. Blake gets arrested and Amy seems to be on the mend (if youll pardon the pun) Then she plays a gig in Belgrade. She is drugged out of her mind. She is stumbling around the stage and then she is booed off the stage. She cancels her tour. She says Now I can go to my managers wedding! The wedding was on July 24th . She died the 23rd. It was so sad, but the best. Just a warning if you go. YOU WILL CRY!
