Water-savvy plants
Rolling down Route 66 in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure® park, you’re whisked away to the American Southwest thanks to a variety of cacti. Mosey on over to Frontierland in Disneyland® park and you’re transported to the wild wild West with a variety of lush,
green plants and vibrant pops of pink and orange.
These foliage masterpieces are all designed by our Horticulture team to match the story of each area. Several displays are artfully crafted to be water savvy – which adds up to huge water savings here in Southern California. Next time you’re visiting the Disneyland® Resort, be on the lookout for these plants.
Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, at the base of Big Thunder Mountain, welcomes diners with the warmth of a hacienda in Mexico. Water-savvy Echeveria and Russelia pop next to the terracotta tile,
while the dark greens of the citrus trees provide striking contrast.

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage queue landscape creates the feeling of an ocean habitat using water-savvy plants whose shapes resemble sea anemone, coral and kelp.
The garden theme of the Downtown Disney District landscape is brought to life through swaths of purple and orange foliage. Flowers flow into bright greens, yellows and blue-greens with
playful contrast.
Themed after the mostly desert habitat of the American Southwest, Cars Land is a natural candidate for water-savvy landscaping. Natives like Carex pansa (Pacific Dune Sedge) and
Encelia farinosa (Brittlebrush) are beautiful with aloes and cacti.
Save water in your garden with these tips from the Disneyland® Resort Horticulture team.
1: Reduce the amount of turf throughout the yard. You’ll reduce the daily need to irrigate.
2: Water in the early morning to minimize immediate evaporation. 3: Decorate with garden art, rock or decomposed granite to eliminate the need
for water in small areas.
4: Check your irrigation system for leaks.
