The 6th Mechanical Engineering Research Day (MERD'19) is organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM) in association with the Centre for Advanced Research on Energy (CARe), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The event will be in a form of a mini conference with poster presentations at the Kampus Teknologi UTeM, Melaka on 31 July 2019. This year, MERD is also be co-organized by Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung (STTB), and Performance of Rolling Bearings Laboratory, Shanghai University (ShU). The objective is for the scientists, scholars, researchers, engineers and students from Higher Educational Institutions, Research Institutions and Industries in the world to present findings of ongoing/completed original research activities, and hence foster research collaborations between the universities and the industries. The other objective is to introduce young researchers in the scientific field of mechanical engineering through poster presentations and publications, to offer mentoring through senior researchers/scientists, and to foster the building of networks through the informal style of the event. MERD’19 offers a total of 12 main topics, including Automotive and Aeronautics, Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Materials and Processes, Computer Modeling and Simulation, Condition Based Maintenance and Monitoring, Energy Engineering and Management, Engineering Education, Mechanical Design and Optimization, Mechanical Vibration and Control, Structural and Mechanical Testing, Surface Engineering and Tribology, Thermal and Fluids. This year, 166 posters will be presented during the event, where 6% are contributed from International participants, 29% are contributed from other local institutions and agencies, while UTeM participants are of 65% from the total. Meanwhile, the compilation of papers have been published in the Open Access e-Proceeding via www3.utem.edu.my/care/proceedings. The e-Proceeding is indexed in Google Scholar and will also be submitted to Clarivate Analytics (formerly known as ISI-Thomsosn Reuters) Conference Proceedings Citation Index™ for indexing consideration in Web of Science® coverage.

Assalamualaikum Wrt. Wbt. and Salam 1Malaysia, I would like to express warmest welcome to all participants to the 6th Mechanical Engineering Research Day (MERD’19) held at Kampus Teknologi, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) - Melaka, Malaysia. Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah, this is the sixth event after successful responds at the fifth event in 2018. The current event is jointly organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM) and Centre for Advanced Research on Energy (CARe), UTeM. This year, MERD’19 is co-organized by Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung (STTB), and Performance of Rolling Bearings Laboratory, Shanghai University (ShU). With the “IDEA . INSPIRE . INNOVATE” as a theme, MERD’19 is an excellent platform for academicians, engineers and researchers in broad ranges of sustainable collaborations to share their knowledge of innovation, creativity and latest approaches in various research activities. This is in line with the increasing demand for innovative research ideas, design, optimizing, modeling, processing and solutions involving real engineering problems which advocate the provision of rigorous study among distinct communities. ASSOC. PROF. DR. MUHAMMAD HUSSAIN ISMAIL Industrial Metallurgy Research Group (IMReG) Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Universiti Teknologi MARA
Short Biography Muhammad Hussain Ismail is currently an Associate Professor and Deputy Dean (Research and Industrial Linkage) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UiTM Shah Alam. He obtained both B. Eng. (Hons) and MSc in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1999 and 2002, respectively. In 2001, he joined UiTM as a lecturer before pursuing his PhD in Sept 2007 at the University of Sheffield. He completed his PhD in 2012 at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering with thesis entitled Processing of Porous NiTi by Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) using Partly Water Soluble Binder System. His research on NiTi alloy by MIM has led to several paper publications, nationally and internationally, 2 patents and Gold awards in international innovation competitions such as ITEX2017 and PECIPTA2017. Currently, he has collaborated with Faculty of Dentistry, UiTM and a start-up company, namely NITIUM Technology Sdn. Bhd. in development and commercialization of the first porous NiTi Dental Implant. Shape Memory Porous NiTi Alloy for Dental Screws Among many alloys used in medical applications, NiTi shape memory alloys are widely used either for the production of medical devices or implants owing to their unique properties of shape memory effect (SME) and pseudo-elasticity (PE). Besides, the alloy also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. In processing of NiTi alloys, Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) has been successfully exploited for producing two types of NiTi parts; porous and bulk parts. In the present work, porous NiTi dental screw has been fabricated using partly water soluble binder system, which was previously developed in Sheffield University. The porous structure of NiTi alloy exhibits the closest resemblance to human bone in term of Young's modulus that not only provides the sufficient surface roughness for osseointegration but also enables the bone-in growth inside the implant surface.

AHMAD RIVAI Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung
Short Biography Ahmad Rivai born and grow in Bandung Indonesia, Ahmad Rivai has been awarded a scholarship after his first year at ITB to continue his study in France. Graduated from aeronautical engineering school in France, he pursued his 25 years of career in the different countries as engineer, manager and academician. Starting with internship at Eurocopter France, he continues work in aerospace industry at Indonesian Aerospace and Fairchild Dornier Germany for about 11 years. While working in the industry, he begins the service as academician as visiting lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta Indonesia. In 2005 he dedicated his time as permanent lecturer at UTeM until 2018. Now he is lecturer at Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung Indonesia and doing some consultation jobs. Development of New Turboprop Aircraft N219 The Indonesian aerospace industry, as seen by the circle of aerospace community for the last 5 years, is in the period of reviving phase. This phase is marked by appearing projects and events that functioning as driving energy for the revival. Developments of N219, R80, N245 and IFX aircrafts can be seen as the iconic projects of this reviving phase in aerospace industry. The newly flight N219 aircraft is a new generation multi-purpose aircraft, which is designed to be the most suitable mode of transport to open isolated areas, improve people economy growth, and to maintain defence and security. Carrying 19 passengers with the largest cabin cross section of its class, the proven and efficient engine widely used, advanced avionics suite, fixed tricycle landing gear, as well as wide cargo door for multi role capability and quick change configuration, N219 is designed to provide advantages to the operators from technical and economic aspects.
