The registration for the Multicultural Leadership Summit 2014 is officially OPEN! This year’s theme is “Transforming Passion to Action: It Doesn’t End Here…” The event is open and free for all undergraduate and graduate students, and there are only 250 seats available! The 2014 Multicultural Leadership Summit is an annual conference-style program that seeks to assist participants in exploring the topics

of multiculturalism, diversity, and social justice. The summit provides opportunities for participants to learn about their identities and how they impact the ways in which they choose to show up in the world each day. MLS educates participants to empower them to be agents of social change in an increasingly diverse and global community. This year, the Multicultural Leadership Summit is focusing on identity development in the areas of: Race, Ethnicity and Nationality; Sex, Gender and Sexual Orientation; Access, Class and Ability; Leadership and Action. MLS takes place over the course of two days (one afternoon on Friday and a full day on Saturday), Friday, January 24th, 2014from 3:30pm-6:00pm and Saturday, January 25th, 2014 from 8:30am-6:00pm. It will be held at the Center for Global and Multicultural Engagement, Dunlap Success Center, and the Student Life Center Theater. The Center for Leadership and Social Change at FSU is offering an opportunity to tutor high school students. East Gadsden High School needs volunteers for their afterschool program. Transportation will be provided by the Center for Leadership and Social Change throughout the semester. This volunteering opportunity will take place every Tuesday 2:00-

6:00pm (including drive time). Once established, the hope is that this project will become part of the Center’s Community Outreach Program. The fee, previously mentioned in an earlier ad for the background check, has been waived. There will be no cost to the volunteer, and you only need to bring your valid driver license to the school. Volunteers will be involved in tutoring in three content areas: math, science, and reading. Volunteers will be supervised and guided by school teachers. No long-term commitment is required. On Saturday, November 23, 2013 the American Lung Association will be hosting its Fight for Air Climb. This signature fundraising event is a unique vertical challenger where participants climb the 398 stairs to the top of Plaza Tower (at Kleman Plaza, 300 South Duval Street). After the climb, there will be a tailgate party to celebrate the climbers. Volunteers are needed who can help on that morning with set-up, registration, and break down. In addition to volunteers, participants are needed! Students or groups who would like to participate in the climb may sign up as well. This is a community event to support the American Lung Association’s fight to make a difference in the lives of those who fight for air every day! ACT! SYMPOSIUM Calling all volunteers interested in helping to create an interdisciplinary social justice symposium: Act! Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice, Between Academy and Community. The first annual Act! Symposium (Act 1) will focus on social justice and be held February 28th- March 2nd, 2014 in Tallahassee. The symposium is intended to provide researchers, students, artists, activists, and community members’ working on social justice issues an opportunity to come together and learn from one another. GRACE MISSION CHURCH Grace Mission is a service organization in French Town that offers free after-school tutoring to elementary students living in the Joe Louis community. Grace Mission is still in need of volunteers! The after-school program takes place ever Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Anyone is welcome to come play with the kids for the first hour (physical activities and games) and/or help tutor from 4:00pm to 5:00pm! At 5:00pm, a free hot meal is provided to students AND volunteers so feel free to join Grace Mission for dinner too! A volunteer is needed to lead dances with the children for the last half hour or so (from 5:15pm/5:30pm to 6:00pm). The type of dance is up to interpretation: it could be a step routine, line dancing – they just want to get up and move! CITY WALK URBAN MISSION FOOD DRIVE FSU College of Social Work Association of Student Social Workers and the Doctoral Student Organizations fall food and clothing drive benefitting City Walk Urban Missio. Items needed are: clothing, shoes, bags/backpacks, toiletries and shelf stable canned food items. Help the DSO and ASSW in their mission to clothe and nourish the homeless community. During the month of November, non-perishable food and gently used clothing will be collected. A donation spot is the Center for Leadership and Social Change! CITY YEAR City Year is an education focused non-profit organization that engages 17-25 year-olds in an active year of service in public school systems around the United States to fight the dropout crisis. CHILDREN’S DAY @ MUSEUM OF FLORIDA HISTORY The Museum of Florida History’s annual Children’s Day even is quickly approaching and will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, 10:00am until 4:00pm. This event is geared specifically for children and provides hands-on activities, games and special performances, as well as an investigation into Florida’s rich history. Volunteers are needed for this event. In the past, volunteers have helped welcome families, distribute tickets, take photographs, assist with crafts, and much more. Volunteers are asked to work one of two shifts: 9:00am to 12:45pm OR 12:45pm to 4:30pm. Additional help will be needed for errand-running, set-up and clean-up. PLANTATION WILDLIFE FESTIVAL The Plantation Wildlife Festival, which is a Nov. 15-17th, is an event that raises funds for operation of Thomasville Center for the Arts in Thomasville, Ga. During this year's festival, there is a new event on Thursday, Nov. 14th for top underwriters of the festival. There will be a 5-course wine pairing dinner for 50 people in the dining room of Pebble Hill Plantation. The event chair, Morgan Lewis, has secured the executive chef and key culinary team members of Sea Island Resort to prepare the exquisite meal for the evening. This could help with experience for a resume. This is also great for Hospitality students as well as anyone who would be interested in this field. Responsibilities

will include prep, kitchen tasks, some organization and light clean up (for rentals, etc.), plating of courses, etc. Volunteers are requested to arrive at Pebble Hill in Thomasville, Ga. at 3 pm on Thursday, Nov. 14th. The Summer Enrichment Program encourages the application of students from historically underrepresented groups in order to fulfill the Rangel Program mission – to enhance diversity in U.S. representation abroad. The Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by Howard University. The International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program takes place at Howard University in Washington, D.C. To enhance participants’ academic preparation to work in international affairs, the Program provides two courses that focus on enhancing knowledge and skills related to U.S. foreign policy and economics, plus a writing seminar. To give the scholars greater insight into the foreign policy making process and international affairs careers, the Rangel Program introduces them to a wide range of professionals from government and nongovernmental organizations who work on global issues. It also arranges trips to various governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in international affairs and explores options for graduate study, fellowships, and internships.
