The foundations of Mu Sigma are built on Learning over Knowing, Extreme Experimentation, and Interdisciplinary Perspective - beliefs which come alive through an immersive learning ecosystem. Mu Sigma’s Columbus Program has been designed to bring our beliefs alive through:

A young, fast paced work environment As part of the Columbus Program spanning nine months, trainees are flown in from different parts of the world to Bangalore, India. During this period, they live and work in India, attending our in house Mu Sigma University, undergoing training that is an optimum mix of class room sessions and hands-on work, alongside hundreds of other decision scientists.

WHAT’S IN ITFOR YOU?

Undergo training conducted by Mu Sigma University alongside the India Team. Thereafter, you will be assigned to a client location in the US/UK/Australia/Japan and work as a part of Mu Sigma’s global client services team, wherein you get to:

Graduating with a biochemistry major, I currently work out of Atlanta on high impact financial planning & analytics projects for a Fortune 50 retailer. One of the most rewarding parts of this role is working with the on-site and offshore teams to convert an often muddy and undefined problem into a customized, scalable, and robust solution fitting our clients’ needs. In 3 years since joining Mu Sigma, I went from studying Materials Engineering in Champaign, IL to learning about applying decision sciences to solve today’s complex problems. I have used the learning (growth mindset) skills I developed in India to enable advanced AdTech capabilities, predict nuclear reactor activity with machine learning, and optimize pricing strategies with an automotive manufacturer. Not to mention getting to experience Bangalore, New York City, Chicago, and Detroit along the way.

A mixed bag of experiencesWe believe in experimentation rather than expertise. To infuse a truly interdisciplinary way of thinking among our people, we make sure every single employee is rotated from time to time, taking on a variety of roles and being exposed to different industries and business functions across their Mu Sigma career. For Columbus Trainees, the rotation starts in the training phase itself, as they are given a feel of working with various teams during their India tenure, from Delivery Teams to Innovation Engine and even Marketing.

Learning more than just Decision SciencesLearning is a way of life at Mu Sigma, and the ecosystem offers enough opportunities for the same, including weekly sessions such as the Thursday Learning Hour, conducted by Mu Sigma University on a spectrum of topics ranging from Machine Learning and Macroeconomics to Storytelling and Microdelegation. LIFE IN INDIA

“I had many amazing experiences during my stay in India, but the one that stood out was my trip to Darjeeling and the Himalayan foothills. I grabbed a flight to a military town in West Bengal called Bagdogra and took a three-hour car ride to the mountains. We then embarked on a three-day trek through the Himalayas with a local guide. We got to meet the indigenous people in the mountains and learn about their lifestyle and culture, which was one of the most fulfilling experiences of the trip. We drank lots of local tea as well, and saw the peak of Mount Everest in the distance.”

One of the first and best trips I took was to Hampi, a UNESCO world heritage site located around 8 hours from Bangalore. It was a humbling experience to explore the sprawling ruins of this incredibly rich cultural city, moped through the serene rice paddies, sail across the lake in a huge woven basket and climb the 570 steps to catch the sunset from the top of the Monkey Temple.”
