The small tasks they enjoyed carrying out included putting paint pots on the table, sweeping up playdough from the floor and clearing away creative activities. The children have been busy consolidating their learning based around the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ creating bear ears from circles, finding out about real bears and theirs habitats and where they live around the world and categorising ‘Compare Bears’ according to their size or colour and ordering them by height. To mark the celebrations of Australia Day they have also decorated boomerangs using the aboriginal dot technique. This week we are focusing our learning around Chinese New Year and will be enjoying menu A for lunch and tea. 1 st February 2016, Week 5, Spring Term 2016 | 0208 674 9514 | [email protected] | www.whitehouseschool.com GOOD BEHAVIOUR BADGES HAVE BEEN AWARDED TO… REC: AGATHA FERRANDINO YEAR 1: SOPHIE MACDONALD YEAR 2: GABRIELLA NICHOLSON YEAR 3: DANIIL BALAKHNIN YEAR 4: EDWARD WATSON YEAR 5: UMAR SYED YEAR 6: LUCY FRADIN

A focus group of Art Choice students visited Tate Modern on Thursday afternoon to experience the Alexander Calder exhibition. Alexander Calder, an American sculptor, was a radical figure who pioneered kinetic sculpture, bringing movement to static objects. The children found his work both fascinating and inspirational and are looking forward to making their own mobiles. It was a sunny afternoon and we were able to enjoy a walk back to Waterloo Bridge along the Southbank.

Nut Free School

Please remember that The White House is a nut free environment

and under no circumstances should nuts be brought into

the building. Nut allergies can cause

very dangerous reactions and we

strive to keep all pupils safe.

The Laurels Parents are invited to attend the upcoming Laurels School Open Event on February 10

th from 10-12pm.

If you would like to attend please email [email protected] or phone us on 020 8674 7229.

Under 9 Boys’ Hockey The Under 9 boys' hockey teams travelled to the Ferndale Centre in Brixton on Thursday to take on Dolphin School. The A team match was full of great attacking from both teams and saw the lead change hands several times. Dolphin took the lead with a well-worked goal then the White House hit back with two excellent passing plays to provide goals for Flynn Knight and Rhys Read-Beche. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold on to the lead after half time and two further counter attack goals from Dolphin stole the win. Best on the day for the White House were Eliot Kretzschmar and Asher Stark for some fantastic defending. The B team also got off to a slow start. After conceding two early goals they trailed for most of the first half before a goal for Lucas Chatterjee got the White House back in the match. The second half was all White House however, and two goals from Oliver Stephens - on a day he could have scored five - were enough to seal the win. Well done to all the boys for some fantastic performances in their first fixture this term and thank you to the parents who came to offer their support.

On Thursday 28th January, the Drama choice group went to The Unicorn theatre to see The Minotaur, The Minotaur play set in Crete which links with the Year 6 Ancient Greek focus in History and Drama choice sessions. In the impossible labyrinth, lived a fearsome and lonely beast with the head of a bull and the body of a man. The play proved to be a clever retelling of the well-known Greek myth and was a huge treat for everyone. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it.

On Friday the Year 5 and 6 girls attended a hockey tournament hosted by Dolphin School. The girls had a wonderful afternoon out gaining lots of experience facing Eaton House, Dolphin and Oakfield teams. Although the afternoon was not as successful as we would have hoped, the girls secured a semi-final match, unfortunately losing in the final minute. All of the girls played well and their play improved throughout the afternoon. They came back with a positive outlook and were encouraged by their performances. A huge thank you to the parents that came to support the girls it really helped to spur them on.
