Adjust. Balance. Thrive.By Jeff Berlinicke

Not too long ago, Jason Hurley,F.I.A.M.A., was 14-years-old andsuffered from back pain. As a youngfootball player, he was doing a lot ofweightlifting and training, whichconsequently took a huge toll on hisback and his body.

Dr. Hurley started going to achiropractor, hoping it would changehis condition for the better – itended up changing his life.

“It worked,” says Dr. Hurley,

who recently opened Motion Coun-cil, a chiropractic business in Olds-mar. “I have always had an unusualamount of back pain and once Istarted going to the chiropractor, itseemed to work.”

Dr. Hurley didn’t immediatelydecide to make it a profession. Afterplaying football at Furman Universityin South Carolina, Dr. Hurley wentinto the business world, wearing a tieevery day and knowing that it wasn’tthe life for him. He remained fasci-nated by the chiropractic practiceand decided it would be a better

route for his professional and per-sonal life. He even studied for a timein Honduras and learned that not allcountries practice health the sameway and that Americans are amongthe least healthy in the world.

It was that approach that leadhim to become an ardent advocate ofhealth and to show people that chi-ropractic is not all about the back – itis about the mind and the nervoussystem and the things that lead toback pains.

At Motion Council, Dr. JasonHurley and his team of wellness ex-perts put their patients’ bodies inconstant motion by providing the ul-timate chiropractic care, nutrition, exercise and massage therapies avail-able. Patients who have chronichealth conditions that cause thempain, steal their energy or lower theirquality of life get back in the swing-of-things with the finest quality ofcare through the use of modern chi-ropractic treatment and equipment.

“Look at it this way,” says Dr.Hurley. “We are the wealthiest coun-try in the world with the best healthinsurance, yet the rankings say we arethe 33rd healthiest country in theworld. Why is that? Because we en-courage unhealthy eating, we ignorestress, and we don’t take advantage

of good nutrition. It’s out there, buttoo many people want to settle forfast food.”

Dr. Hurley deals with people ofall ages and has often given help tobabies. He has previously workedwith the Labor of Love Birth Centerin Lutz and continues today to workwith babies before their muscles areeven fully developed.

“Much of back pain,” Dr. Hur-ley says, “is mental in origin, or atleast brought on by things besidesactual back injuries. The spinal cord

Dr. Jason Hurley operates a chiro-practic practice, Motion Council, inOldsmar. He works on much more

than back pains, includingnutrition, stress relief and other

influences that may cause back pain.

controls everything in the body andthe brain sends messages to the restof the body through this cord. Thekey is the nervous system, and that isaffected by your stress level, your nu-trition, and many other factors. Youwould be surprised at how much of adifference getting toxins out of yourbody can help your back.”

The nervous system is hard todefine, yet it dictates much of whathappens in the body. Dr. Hurley says,“It is the part of the means by which

back pain can develop.” Stress isn’tthe only factor when it comes toback pain, but it is something mostpeople do not think about when itcomes to back problems. By the timea person reaches the age of 40, thestress factors have built up and un-derlying disease process have mani-fested themselves to a point wherenow the body begins to show signsof dysfunction – what we refer to assymptoms.

Seeing a chiropractor can pro-

duce great results and Dr. Hurley, along with his highly-trained profes-sional staff at Motion Council do alot more than just adjust the back. They also offer massage therapy – agreat way to sooth those nerves thatmight be causing the problems in thefirst place – acupuncture, Pilates,Yoga, nutritional counseling, physicaltherapy, spinal decompression, kine-sio taping, the Graston Soft TissueTechnique and rehabilitation therapy.

“I don’t want to call myself ajack of all trades,” says Dr. Hurley. “Ican give my patients some of the bestbasic advice, but every person has tobe able to want to make themselvesbetter. It’s all up to you in yourmind. You also have to know how towork out. Put it this way – do youwant to be able to play with yourgrandchildren or do you want tohave a hard time standing up? That’sthe main thing people need to thinkabout.”

Another myth about chiroprac-tic, Dr. Hurley says, is that it relievespain. Dr. Hurley believes the idea be-hind chiropractic is to balance thebody, allowing injuries and ailmentsto heal themselves. Chiropractic sim-ply helps the healing process along. There are 24 movable vertebrae inthe human spine with discs in be-

tween. Keeping them all in motion iswhat allows the nervous system andthe rest of the body to work at itsfullest potential.

“The back muscles and thebody’s organs can usually heal them-selves just fine,” states Hurley.“Other things can be fixed, but theback is the strongest part of yourbody. Stress, along with eating thewrong foods and taking in toxinsleads to back issues. Stress reapshavoc on the body. Chiropractors doa lot more than just fix back prob-lems.”

“Thank you Dr. Hurley for tak-ing the pain away and literally givingme my life back,” says happy clientRicky. “After only a few visits Istarted feeling better and my backhas become stronger and pain free. Ishould have seen you a long timeago.”

At Belanova Salon, they boastof their European roots. It isa true pleasure to see a doctor’spractice expand, knowing that it isdue to meeting the needs of a grow-ing, well-cared-for clientele that iscoming through the doors becauseof excellent care. That is what hashappened with Florida Wellness &Rehab in Trinity. In February 2012,Dr. Unger and Dr. Delle Chiaiemoved to a new wellness center withmore than 5,000-sq.-ft. whereFlorida Wellness & Rehab patientswill enjoy access to even more serv-ices.

Now, in addition to chiropracticcare, physical therapy, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and non-surgi-cal spinal decompression, patientscan also turn to Dr. Browne, whobrings with her 24 years of experi-ence as a full service, family practice

care provider. She is accepting newpatients of all ages at Florida Well-ness & Rehab and is available Mon-day, Wednesday and Friday.

Meet Dr. Carol Browne“I am really excited to be here,”

says Dr. Browne. “Throughout myentire career my philosophy hasbeen to treat people how I want myfamily treated.” Dr. Browne saysthat it is wonderful to be workingwith like-minded colleagues. “A bigreason that I came onboard is theBIG focus on wellness. I feel like Iam getting back to the love of medi-cine – focusing on the health of mypatients.

One of Dr. Browne’s favoritequotes is from Andrew Taylor Still,M.D., who is considered thefounder of Osteopathic Medicine.Dr. Still’s wise adage, “Any doctorcan find disease. It takes a physicianto find health.”

Dr. Browne received her Doctorof Osteopathic Medicine degree in1986 at the University of NorthTexas Health Science Center, TexasCollege of Osteopathic Medicine inFort Worth, Texas. She has exten-sive experience in teaching osteo-pathic manipulation and familypractice to medical students and res-idents, and has presented many for-mal lectures at physician meetings. She was on faculty at the Universityof North Texas Health Science Cen-ter/ Texas College of OsteopathicMedicine (TCOM). She was amember of both the Family Medi-cine and Osteopathic ManipulativeMedicine Departments. Shearchived the rank of Associate Pro-fessor during her tenure at TCOM.

In addition to caring for pa-tients of all ages with all types ofmedical needs in rural Missouri –

August will mark her third year liv-ing in Florida – Dr. Browne has ex-tensive training and experience inosteopathic manipulation, whichcouples nicely with chiropracticmedicine. She is experienced in tra-ditional family medicine and pro-vides physicals, well-woman andwell-man exams. Additionally, Dr.Browne is trained and experiencedin trigger point injections, joint in-jections, bio-identical hormone re-placement, Armour thyroidtreatment and other modalities in-cluding cranial sacral therapy.

When I met Dr. Browne andlearned that she was experienced incranial sacral therapy, I immediatelymade an appointment for mymother. She had experienced relieffrom severe headaches and an overallfeeling of wellbeing with this type oftherapy before, but the closest li-censed therapist trained in this treat-ment was a far drive from our area.Dr. Browne was very thorough inher examination, and she has thatspecial something that is very neces-sary to help someone with a treat-ment such as cranial sacral therapy –good hands. This type of therapy isfocused on maximizing the flow ofcerebral spinal fluid up and downthe spinal column and into thebrain. After witnessing the benefitsmy mother has experienced, I havecome to strongly believe in the ben-efits of cranial sacral therapy.

Working with all ages of patientsin Missouri gave Dr. Browne the op-portunity to help with a variety ofmedical needs, from those of agingpatients to the littlest newborns. The Missouri Department of Healthreferred several newborns who wereunable to nurse to Dr. Browne forcranial sacral therapy; after workingever so gently on the babies, she was

successful in helping them to prop-erly breastfeed.

As an Osteopathic Physician,Dr. Browne has extra training in themusculoskeletal system and how itworks. “My goal is to restore pa-tients to normal function as much aspossible,” shares Dr. Browne. “Istrive to help the anatomy to be asnormal as possible so the physiologyis as functional as possible. We im-prove circulation and lymphatic flow, which helps the immune systemwork better. My job as a physician isto give each patient all of the toolsthey need to stay healthy andstrong.”

Client Scott Angle says, “As a Fi-nancial Advisor, I have had several ex-periences and interactions withattorneys. Working with Ryan Dod-dridge and Wollinka & Wollinka hasnever been anything other than top-notch. Ryan is extremely professionaland makes himself extremely available. If you want to meet with an attorneythat acts like a real person and treatsyou the same, Ryan Doddridge andWollinka & Wollinka should be at thetop of the list.”

Attorney Doddridge also is work-ing on executing an informative emailblog that will keep Wollinka &Wollinka clients informed of updates atthe practice and in the many laws thataffect us daily. This is in addition to theannual newsletter and other many waysthat the staff at Wollinka & Wollinkakeeps people informed. The staff at thelaw firm is just as dedicated to helpingtheir clients as the attorneys, and theyall work together to maintain an excel-lent relationship.

Estate PlanningThis kind of law often requires a

long-term relationship that, like any re-lationship, is built on trust and under-standing. The attorneys of Wollinka &Wollinka are experienced in estate plan-ning, which includes creating wills, es-

tablishing trusts, and drafting ad-vanced directivesand powers of at-torney. Their expe-rience in this area isinvaluable and theyunderstand thatpreparing for peo-ple’s future in theevent that some-thing happens tothem is a very deli-cate matter, but animportant one.

Many of usdon’t have official wills, and have notestablished trusts for our children ormade tough decisions like who will bein charge of our financial and medicaldecisions if we were to become incapac-itated. Many of us also mistakenly be-lieve that this kind of preparation isreserved for the excessively wealthy. While Wollinka & Wollinka is experi-enced in helping wealthy clients, theyare also experienced at helping the restof us prepare for what must be lookedat as the inevitable. The importantquestion really needs to be asked: Whowill take care of your children if you areincapacitated? Where will they stay inthe interim? If you do not have a prop-erly drawn will and/or advanced direc-tive, your children could needlessly getcaught up in the judicial system, whilecourt costs and attorney fees rise for thefamily.

Attorney Wollinka says, “Failure toestablish the right kind of documentscan result in 10 times that in courtcosts and attorney’s fees to institute aguardianship.” What could be moreimportant? That’s why Wollinka &Wollinka provides free consultations fortheir clients.

At Wollinka & Wollinka, there is avariety of affordable packages that canhelp their clients prepare for the future.

They understand that there can be no“one-size-fits-all” plan for your family.Wollinka & Wollinka is experienced athelping you protect your assets by shar-ing strategies that help to limit estateand gift taxes, which can make a largeimpact on your family after a loved onedies.

Wollinka & Wollinka’s many yearsof experience have given them thecompassion that is so important whenworking with grieving families. Theyunderstand the emotions involved andcan administer an individual’s estatewith compassion. When someonepasses away, the person chosen to rep-resent the estate analyzes the assets anddebts. After debts are paid, the remain-ing assets are distributed to the benefi-ciaries. The attorneys at Wollinka &Wollinka know how to handle thesedelicate situations and work with fami-lies to make the process go as smoothlyas possible. If any problems arise, theyare ready to help iron them out.

Elder LawUnfortunately many of our senior

citizens do not get the care that theydeserve. Some believe that it is one ofthe biggest failures in our society, howwe do not better care for those who areno longer able to take care of them-selves. Wollinka & Wollinka has beenprotecting senior citizens for manyyears, and can help families navigate themany complicated issues that may arisethrough Medicaid, determiningguardianship, incapacity planning andthe many estate planning directives thatneed to be decided ahead of time.

Real EstateBuying, selling, renting or leasing

real estate can be an immensely confus-ing endeavor. That’s why it is impor-tant to have all of your documents inplace to protect yourself, your family, your assets and your property. Wollinka

& Wollinka is adept at working with allmatters of real estate issues and evenhas a title insurance company. Theydon’t just dabble in Real Estate Law;they truly understand it and can helptheir clients be prepared for unforeseencircumstances. In the end, it’s alwaysabout protecting their clients and stay-ing current on all of the changing lawsthat effect real estate in Florida and be-yond. They handle title insurance, pur-chases, sales, refinances, can navigatecomplicated closing procedures and canhelp write leases. If there’s ever a dis-pute between a buyer and a seller, it’simportant to have someone at theready to take your side and pull youthrough the fog that can be Real EstateLaw.

Commercial real estate is a differ-ent animal than residential, and Attor-ney Wollinka says, “You should alwayshave an attorney regardless, in this typeof transaction because of the contractsinvolved.” He goes on to describe themany crediting and debiting issues, rental roles and contracts with tenantsthat are so important in commercialreal estate.

When choosing a law firm to rep-resent you, protect your assets and yourfamily, and to help you navigate thecomplicated laws of our state, it’s cru-cial that you choose a law firm that youcan trust.
