I want my voice students toconnect to that energy and feel thatfreedom and the magic that comesfrom it.”

“Westchase Music School is agreat place for kids to learn,” says par-ent Rosa Vargas. “The small settingmakes for a comfortable environment. The instructors are patient. The frontreception girls are very welcoming. I

highly recommendthis music school.”

WestchaseMusic School is awonderful place foryour child to learnto love playingmusic. If they areunsure of the in-strument they wantto play, the musicmarathon class is agreat option forthem. In the musicmarathon class, stu-dents play a differ-ent instrument

each week for 4 weeks so that they canchoose their favorite. In addition toclasses in any instrument your childmight be interested in, WestchaseMusic School also offers a band en-semble class for students who are newto band or want to refine their skills. On top of their personalized lessons, all the students at Westchase MusicSchool also have the opportunity toparticipate in free monthly masterclasses where they can explore a varietyof musical topics.

Since opening one year ago, theteachers and students at WestchaseMusic School have been busy makingbeautiful music, giving back to thecommunity, and forming new bondsand friendships. “We wanted to makeWestchase Music School a vital partof the neighborhood,” says ownerRick Foessett. “One of the wayswe’ve given back to the communityis by entertaining the residents atAshton Gardens. It is a wonderfulway for the students to see how themusic they are making can entertainand enrich people’s lives.”

Whatever the instrument,Westchase Music School’s teachers canhelp your child master it. Voice, piano, guitar, violin, flute, oboe, drums – theexperienced staff at Westchase MusicSchool can match your child to theteacher who will help his or her talentsflourish. “We match students up witha teacher that we think will be a goodfit with their personality,” saysWestchase Music School staff memberNicole Aaronson. “We talk to the par-ents about the type of teacher theyand their child prefer and what genre

of music the child is interested in. Wehelp match personalities so our stu-dents are even more successful in theirmusic lessons. Every lesson includes30 minutes of individual instructionand 15 minutes in the music technol-ogy lab. Our teachers really focus onthe student and let them choose thesongs and style of music they are inter-ested in. It makes the lessons fun forthe children and gives them a bettersuccess rate.”

All of the teachers at WestchaseMusic School are hand picked byRick’s wife and co-owner Helen. “Be-fore we moved to Westchase, we hadopened a very successful music schoolin Charlotte, North Carolina,” saysRick. “Helen knows the questions toask to find the best teachers. All of ourteachers have degrees in music; manyof them have their masters. Somework in the schools or are retired fromteaching. When hiring teachers, wewant to make sure that they can com-municate with the students and thatthey know how to teach. Someonemay be a wonderful musician but thatdoes not necessarily mean they will bea great teacher.”

No traffic, no commercialization, and no stress; surrounded by nothingbut nature, as you sit on the backporch and stare out into the serenelake and lush woodlands, you are in-stantly overcome by a sense of calm-ness and relaxation. Perfectlycontrasted by the vibrant green treeline, the sky is a light blue color. Thereis not a sound to be heard for miles, aside from that of chirping birds or the‘who’ of a friendly owl – when youstay at a Bear Track Lake Adventures’cabin you truly have found a secludedoasis and a perfect representation ofwhat it means to get away.

If you have never taken a vacationto the beautiful mountains of Ken-tucky, than you are missing out onone of the country’s most exclusivehidden gems and Bear Track Lake Ad-ventures surely has done an excep-tional job of bringing you to nature’sdoorstep. Situated in the middle of avalley on 32 acres of mountainous ter-rain, overlooking a 7 acre lake, thispicturesque setting is like somethingout of a fairy tale. From the momentyou arrive you will slowly feel yourtensions slip away and the stresses inyour life all of a sudden won’t seem soimportant. If you are looking for theperfect place to recharge your batteriesyou have found all that and more atBear Track Lake Adventures.

As a guest at Bear Track Lake Ad-ventures expect a warm Kentucky wel-come from owners Fred and JaniceAustin, as well as their son Justin andtheir three dogs. They were such gra-cious hosts and really did an amazingjob of making us feel welcome and in-troducing us to the area. Living rightdown the road from the cabin, theywere always there if we had any ques-

tions and truly made our experiencememorable. Their dogs made greatwalking companions, especially theirbeautiful Husky Rocco, who on thefirst night stayed outside our window, guarding us against any creatures thatmight be lurking about.

Fred Austin, a Health Care Ad-ministrator in Florida for 17 years, gotto missing his mountains and seasonsand returned to Kentucky. He builtthe cabins at Bear Track Lake Adven-tures as a way to share this beauty withthe rest of the world, and since his firstcabin was built over three years ago,Fred has had guests from as far awayas Europe and as close as neighboringKentucky cities. No matter where youlive or the lifestyle you lead, you cansurely appreciate the magnificence thatthe Kentucky mountains have to offer!

Sleepy Bear’s DreamWith two bedrooms, two bath-

rooms and an additional loft with abunk bed, the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, comfortably sleeps seven, and is the

perfect option for families. Newly builtin January, the cabin is immaculateand features hand-crafted furniture, custom wood countertops, two third-floor balconies, a full downstairs with apool table, a work out bike and a hottub, and my personal favorite – a backporch that overlooks the lake. Just pic-ture yourself waking up to that amaz-ing view, drinking your morningcoffee as you sit back in the rockingchair taking in the serenity of the lakeas the fog slowly rolls off the top ofthe water. The feeling is almost sur-real, knowing you are amongst naturein its truest form, something un-touched by man.

Bear Lair CabinFor those with a smaller group,

the second one bedroom cabin is theperfect fit, and sleeps four comfort-ably. Located right down the roadfrom the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, theBear Lair too sits right on the lake, with a back porch that overlooks theserene body of water and pristine na-

ture. Built a few years ago, this cabin isjust as beautiful and showcases thesame craftsmanship and attention todetail as its sister cabin next door.

As their names imply, these cabinsare all about bears- from wood carv-ings in the pillars to the furniture, tofigures and decorations that can befound throughout. I think Fred andJanice were very clever in namingthese cabins as you truly feel like abear in hibernation from the rest ofthe world. Away from your hecticschedule and work, for once can letyour mind be at ease and not have toworry about the demands of your life.

As amazing as the cabins are onthe inside, if you love nature than youare going to have to walk outside andexplore the many sights that Leecounty Kentucky has to offer. And thebest part is, if you are looking to dosome exploring, you don’t even have toleave the property. With numerous hik-ing trails and walking paths, as well ascliffs, geological formations and manyother unique sights, you can surely getyour fix of nature on this 32 acre re-treat. They also have a boat so you cantake a trip around the lake for a differ-ent perspective; or possibly throw out aline to catch some catfish for lunch. Ohyeah, and did I mention – right outsidethe cabin doors are numerous 50 mil-lion year old caves, one of which boastscave carvings that date back to what ar-chaeologists believe to be over 8,000years old. In fact if you are an adven-ture seeker and consider yourself to bethe “outdoorsy” type you even havethe option of staying in one of thecaves overnight. “How would you liketo stay in a 50 million year old hotel,”jokes Fred, “we have that!”

“This is an amazing cabin andplace to vacation,” writes one guest.“It was very relaxing and quiet. The

woods, trails, cliffs and caves andwildlife are amazing to experience. Mytwo eleven year olds had a blast on thefishing boats this weekend. The cabinwas well-equipped with everything weneeded. We loved playing with thesweet dogs too. I’ve stayed at severalcabins throughout Tennessee andKentucky and this is by far my favorite. We will definitely be back. Thanks forthe memories!”

On our visit, my husband and Iwere very fortunate, as Fred gave us agrand tour of the property, showing us

the magnificent rock formations andcaves. They truly are an impressivesight and as you gaze up in wonder-ment at these breathtaking geologicalformations that date back over 50 mil-lion years old it really does put yourlife into perspective. Each nook andcranny and uniquely formed layer tellsa story of days past and one can onlyimagine everything these rocks havebeen through in their life span.

With all the activities that can befound by merely stepping out thecabin doors, even more can be found

in the surrounding area, from rockclimbing the magnificent cliffs to hik-ing the trails in the state parks, to fish-ing and canoeing the waterways; theyeven have zip lining only a few milesaway. In fact, you might not be awareof this, but Lee county Kentucky isranked among the best rock climbingdestinations in the world. “Peopletravel from all over the world to rockclimb here,” says Janice. When youvisit I also recommend you visit theRed River Gorge – one of Kentucky’sfamous sights. A natural bridge that

overlooks a steep 100 foot + drop off,the Red River Gorge really is a mag-nificent sight.

Bear Track Lake Adventures truly isa nature lover’s dream and it is with aheavy head that I leave here today andreturn to reality; although I seek com-fort in knowing I will once again returnto this beautiful oasis and revisit themany amazing memories I have madeon this wonderful trip. the choice to eat healthy, such as a dietfull of fresh vegetables and hearty pro-teins it’s something that you should dofor the rest of your life. “If you want tomake the most of your life and live agood quality life, chiropractic is justone small piece of the puzzle,” says Dr.Hurley. So instead of viewing going tothe chiropractor as something you haveto do, why not consider it a positive ad-dition to a healthy lifestyle?

Your Chiropractic CareCould be Covered byYour Insurance!

For many living with back pain, cost is the major factor deterringthem from seeking help. Well, didyou know that Motion Council’s chi-ropractic care, massage therapy andnutritional guidance could be cov-ered by your health insurance? And,that all it takes is one quick call toyour insurance company, for MotionCouncil to find out if you are eligibleto receive insurance-covered treat-ments. That being said, what are youwaiting for? You have nothing to loseby calling Motion Council today tosee if you are covered!

Stress – A ContributingFactor to Back Pain

Contrary to what you may be-lieve, not all back pain is caused byphysical factors, such as spinal deterio-ration or an accident or fall. Dr. Hur-ley says, “Much of back pain is mentalin origin, or at least brought on bythings besides actual back injuries. The spinal cord controls everything inthe body and the brain sends mes-sages to the rest of the body throughthis cord. The key is the nervous sys-tem, and that is affected by your stresslevel, your nutrition, and many otherfactors. You would be surprised athow much of a difference getting tox-ins out of your body can help yourback.” The nervous system is hard todefine yet it dictates much of whathappens in the body. Dr. Hurley adds,“It is the part of the means by whichback pain can develop.” Stress isn’tthe only factor when it comes to backpain, but it is something most peopledo not think about when it comes toback problems.

Taking everything into considera-tion, Dr. Hurley looks at all the factorswhich can be contributing to yourback pain and develops a unique pro-gram balancing the perfect combina-tion of nutrition, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy and ex-

ercise. From there, he starts you onthe road to recovery, rebuilding yourbody one step at a time.

The Motion Council DifferenceAt Motion Council it’s not just

what they offer that makes them dif-ferent; in fact Dr. Hurley stresses moreso that it’s what they don’t do thatmakes them so unique. First and fore-most, at Motion Council you willnever be required to have an x-raytaken, if you do not want one. Dr.Hurley says, “We only take x-raysbased upon ‘medical necessity’. If youdon’t want to take x-rays and I deter-mine there isn’t a current need to,then we will not take x-rays.” Quite

often x-raysare used togeneralizesymptomsthat are notdeemed“normal”,and the factof the matteris, the out-come of Chi-ropractictreatmentsisn’t a spinereflecting aperfectlystraight line.

We are all different; it’s all about howwe function. Dr. Hurley adds, “I don’tuse generalized symptoms as scare tac-tics. I am very practical with my pa-tients in finding out what is going onwith their spinal health.” The truth is,you know your body better than any-one else, and therefore how you feel isthe most accurate source for which Dr.Hurley bases his care. By helping youto tune in to what your body is saying,he teaches you to listen to your body, which in turn helps him to develop aunique program tailored to your spe-cific ailments; not just something gen-eralized from an x-ray.

Dr. Hurley says, “It is my goal to

help my patients understand what itfeels like to feel good again. Usuallyafter a couple of treatments they beginto experience some relief. I help themto learn about their bodies and teachthe importance of making adjustmentsa routine part of their life. After a whilethey become more familiar with theirbodies so they know when they needto come in. The key is maintenanceand not letting your pain get too fargone to where you have to start theroad to recovery all over again.”

Furthermore, at Motion Council, you can never expect to receive elabo-rate unnecessary care and will never betold you have to come in x amount oftimes a week for x amount of monthsfor care that you may or may not needas your condition becomes better. In-stead, Dr. Hurley constantly re-evalu-ates his patients from treatment totreatment and only sees them on aneed-be basis. Eventually, it is his goalto get you to a point of maintenanceto where you never have to feel painor discomfort again.

Dr. Hurley believes in the impor-tance of using his hands when adjust-ing his patients and does not relysolely on that of mechanical instru-ments. “In the Greek language Chiro-practic means ‘to do with hands’, andalthough using instruments is a great

adjunct, my practice focuses on theuse of my hands,” says Dr. Hurley. “Alot of my patients have come to meafter seeing other chiropractors whohave only used instruments. And, al-though instruments are a great addi-tion to my practice I feel it necessaryfor them to be considered just that –additions. They are not meant to sup-plement the use of hands.”

Born and raised in the TampaBay, Dr. Hurley has a huge sense ofcommunity pride and does all he canto stayed involved via local organiza-tions and sponsorship affiliations. ThisAugust Motion Council is celebratingtheir two-year anniversary, with over

750 patients served since opening –wow! In his career Dr. Hurley hasworked on professional athletes in var-ious different fields, including Light-ening Players and pro tennis players, but it is helping individuals like youand me where he prides himself andhis work. He says, “I am all aboutfamily and delivering quality, personal-ized care. My patients like to come seeme; I improve their lives, and thatmeans everything to me!”

If you are living with back pain, you are not alone! So many Americanstrudge along day to day just dealingwith their pain, eventually getting to apoint where they forget what it feels

like to be normal. Well, Dr. Hurleywould like to change that. It is hismission to show you what it feels liketo be yourself again – to live a normal, healthy pain-free life! So, what are youwaiting for – don’t you want to feelgood again?

After suggestions from Tyson andour fabulous server Maha, on our pastvisit, my husband and I shared a fewdifferent items, starting with theroasted Veggie Flatbread. As much asI love my meat, this flatbread wasamazing, and made up for the lack ofmeat in so many ways; starting withthe creamy goat cheese crumbled ontop! Consisting of a doughy, crispycrust loaded with toppings, includingjuicy chunks of roasted tomatoes, sweet fire-roasted peppers, asparagusand grilled Portobello mushrooms andtopped with a layer of cheese, this flat-bread is a Mecca of flavor! Or maybethe Oldsmar Flatbread, featuring rotis-serie chicken, nueske bacon, caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, mozzarella and fresh herbs is moreyour style!

A staple item usedthroughout the menu in numerousdifferent preparations, their famousrotisserie chicken, a whole half chickenserved over a bed of their creamy po-tatoes and swimming in juice andbroth, is sure to satisfy any hunger!Crispy on the outside and juicy on theinside, this seasoned chicken is loadedwith flavor and tastes great dipped inthe yummy potatoes.

If you love burgers, than you haveto try their Ybor Burger, a premiumAngus patty topped with guava jelly, melted Gruyere cheese, potato sticks, nueske bacon and their secret tavernsauce. “This burger is my favorite,”says Maha. “I didn’t know if I’d like itat first – I’ve never heard of jelly on aburger before – but the sweet jelly, combined with the smoky bacon, crunchy potato sticks and sharpness ofthe cheese provides a taste that is likenone other.”

the amazing daily drink specials ormouth-watering food temptations, onething is for certain – you have arrived atright place for a great time!

Boasting some of the very bestCaribbean cuisine on this side of theAtlantic, the menu at Rumba certainlydepicts the diverse island cultures andshowcases a little bit of everything. From fresh fish, and deliciouslysmoked poultry, beef and pork, tosandwiches, salads and finger foods, whether you want something from thesea or the land, the chefs at Rumbawill serve up something sure to tanta-lize your taste buds. Chef SeanReynolds says, “Rumba Island Grillhas the best food and cheapest pricesin the area, and all it takes is one biteor sip to be hooked!”

On our previous visit, my hus-band and I decided to try a few of theoptions recommended to us by chefSean, starting with the tuna nachosand jerk chicken wings. As we waitedin anticipation for our appetizers to ar-rive our server Traci brought us someof their homemade corn breadmuffins, which were a great snack tomunch on.

The perfect finger food for shar-

ing, the tuna nachos are fabulouslylight and refreshing. Layered with avo-cado, generous pieces of sesame en-crusted tuna and a jalapeño on top,the crunchiness of the nacho bottomwas a great complement to the tunaand the added herbs and spices com-bined for a really refreshing taste.

On the other side of the spec-trum we tried the jerk chicken wings, which we are so glad we ordered!Dusted with a delicious coating ofseasoning the amazingly crispy skinof the jerk chicken wings had just theright amount of spice and whendipped into their yummy side sauces– cranberry bbq and mango bbq –the taste was exceptional.

While waiting for our entrees,Traci brought over a couple of their fi-esta house salads, which come includedwith their entrees. A colorful work ofart, the fiesta salad came loaded withfresh mango salsa, and was garnishedwith fresh papaya – yum!

If you love seafood, than you aregoing to adore their selection of freshseafood, including the Herb En-crusted Mahi Mahi. Served in a lemoncaper sauce, the herb crust perfectlycomplemented the creamy sauce andthe fresh capers came together withthe seasoned fish for a taste that wasout of this world. Served with twosides – I chose the Jamaican greensand sautéed veggies – this meal prepa-ration was fabulous!

If you are more of a land lover, than you will be equally as happywith their selection of poultry, beefand pork and if you are feeling a bithungry I suggest you try their Barba-dos Ribs. Doused in a mango BBQsauce, the tender, juicy ribs basicallyfell off the bones and the sweet BBQsauce provided a remarkable contrastto the smoky flavor of the ribs. Forour sides we chose their Islandcoleslaw and coconut rice – both ofwhich were really tasty!

Needless to say, after this amazingmeal we did not leave hungry, and we

still had plenty of leftovers to takehome for later! “We have very gener-ous portion sizes,” says Sean. “I haveever heard of anybody complainingthat they are still hungry after eatinghere.” Served until 5:45 p.m., Rumbaalso has a very reasonable Early birdmenu p.m. and offers a variety of op-tions ranging from $6 to $11.
