1 Working Groups Report GS1 delivers the standards that help solve business needs. This event in Cologne marked a milestone for GSMP it was the first Industry & Standards Event since the migration of all standards development groups to the new GSMP Process. This migration allows us to leverage the improved capabilities of the new GSMP Process, as well as harmonize, simplify and integrate all GSMP activities under one umbrella thereby enabling GS1 to serve businesses better. – it was the first Industry & Standards Event since the migration of all standards development groups to the new

GSMP Process.

This migration allows us to leverage the improved capabilities of the new GSMP Process, as well as harmonize,

simplify and integrate all GSMP activities under one umbrella thereby enabling GS1 to serve businesses better.

Accomplishments

The SMG processes up to 3 dozen work requests weekly, adding up to over 200 for calendar year 2011. Key work requests were highlighted.

A Communication Plan to assist with deployment of Maintenance Release 5 v. 2.8 was discussed and is in development.

Lively, constructive and thorough discussions on future Major Release 3 topics, resulting in actions and milestones that serve to progress the release forward

Continue processing simple work requests on teleconferences

Finalize eBallot on Maintenance Release 5 v. 2.8 Business Message Solution and launch the release

GSMP GDS Trade Item Implementation Guide Sub-Team

Leader: Mike Mowad, GS1

Accomplishments

Dates Work Session - The sub-team reviewed the latest spread sheet from Scott B. It was agreed to publish the dates that are completed. The ones that are incomplete will also be published with the GDD explanation and text that points the reader to consult with their local MO for implementation guidance.

Tax Information in Trade Item Synchronisation - There were no public review comments for this topic. Public review will end on 13-Oct.

Mergers & Acquisitions – The team reviewed and resolved the 12 comments which were submitted by Jeremy Morton of GS1 Sweden.

Change & Correct - The sub-team began reviewing the inconsistent use of CORRECT and CHANGE.

Opportunities & Next Steps :

Dates Work Session - An MS Word version of the topic will be brought back to the Sub-Team for motioning to public review

Mergers & Acquisitions - The updated topic and comment spread will be processed by the content leads and brought back to the Sub-Team to be motioned to publish.

Change & Correct - This discussion will be continued in the GDS SMG physical meeting on Wednesday, 28-Sep.

GSMP Traceability and Event Sharing (T&ES) Standards Maintenance Group

(SMG) Planning

Accomplishments

The scope and importance of this was shared:

T&ES SMG scope includes the GS1 2020 Strategic Vision on Visibility. The SMG supports track, trace, anti-counterfeiting, authentication, inventory management, safety and product return and recall.

The alignment with the GS1 2020 Strategic Vision promotes the T&ES SMG to immense importance to GS1 companies, entities and organizations who need an accurate, fast and low cost traceability system that evolves over time
