How can students help themselves?

Believe that hard work is

the way forward

Make plenty of notes

Review often – start now!

More frequent “testing” – particularly areas that

they find most challenging

Ask when they are stuck –

they are unlikely to be the only ones!

Don’t compare with others – focus on their own

journey

Page 11: YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING · Dos and Donts list – pupil advice Frequently asked questions Subject information Options form you must complete The E-Booklet will be sent via email

How can you help?

Check that they are reviewing their

learning often – not cramming

Ask them to explain the work they have done during the day

Avoid telling them what you found

difficult at school

Contact the school if there is anything that we can do to

help

We absolutely want to work in partnership with

you

Keep telling them to believe in themselves

YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING

“The future of work is unclear. But one thing is certain …

the jobs of tomorrow won’t be the same as the jobs of today.”

And the most important quality will be

ADAPTABILITY

The Guardian, January 2018

THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE

Page 14: YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING · Dos and Donts list – pupil advice Frequently asked questions Subject information Options form you must complete The E-Booklet will be sent via email

YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING

THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE

• The job you will be in at 25 may not yet exist

• And the average person has 6 different careers

• So if you haven’t got your future career mapped out yet, don’t worry!

• But do try to get the next step right

• And be aware of the changing landscape while you’re planning each step

related to subject criteria / no formal written report

(written by subject teachers)

(2019)

Tutors to write summary in summer term

Page 47: YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING · Dos and Donts list – pupil advice Frequently asked questions Subject information Options form you must complete The E-Booklet will be sent via email

In a nutshell

• 1 or 2 strengths from banks

• 1 (foundation) or 2(core) targets chosen from a list (2 for all at KS4 except Triple Science)

• Tutors write a short, freehand overview statement

• All “final” reports will go out during the summer term

• Parents will receive a summary report in the final term (that will include all 3 short report grades for effort and progress along with tutor comment)

• Comments will be improved over time
