FAITH LIFE
Last Sunday after mass a lady I met some 13 years ago
who identified herself as a shepherdess told me that recently
a fire on her farm that claimed some of her sheep made her
realize what Christ the Good Shepherd must feel when any-
one of His sheep is lost for eternity. Earlier in the week I had
a conversation with someone who asked me how you get a
loved one to return to the Church. I had no answer — only
advice. “Lead by example and pray for them.” Such exam-
ple and prayers are bound to have the intended effect as our
Lord - the Good Shepherd desires to lead all his sheep to
safe pasture's. May I suggest that we all join in providing
example and prayers that any we know return to a healthy
relationship with the Lord. In so doing, we will do our part
to assist the Good Shepherd in leading all His sheep to their
heavenly home.
Are you one of the beautiful people?
Who doesn’t want to be considered beautiful? We often
imagine that life would be better if we were. The beauty that
comes from a loving heart, however, only improves with time.
Beautiful people appreciate God’s creation.” … all things
were created through him and for him”. (Colossians 1:16). All
that God created came from his loving heart. Beautiful people
notice God’s creations and experience his love through them.
Beautiful people put others first. “This is how all will know
that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”
(John 13:35). Sometimes Jesus was busy, tired, or worn out.
Yet he never turned anyone away who asked for his attention.
Beautiful people regularly help others — asked or unasked —
without complaint or expecting recognition. They do it our of
love like Jesus.
Beautiful people accept others as they are. They don’t judge
because they know that God loves each of us equally. They
find ways to love people others find unlovable.
Beautiful people build others up. “Behold, you are beautiful,
my beloved, truly lovely” (Song of Solomon 3:16). Loving
people encourage, boost, and bolster those around them.
Spending time with a truly beautiful person makes others feel
beautiful, too.
Is a day of paying tribute to and honoring
members of the military. In the United States
it is celebrated annually on the third Saturday
in May (May 18
th
, 2019) The day was created
in 1949 to replace and unify formerly separate
celebration days for the Army, Navy, Marine
Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. President
Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a
single holiday for citizens to come together
and thank our military members for their
patriotic service in support of our country.
We give thanks to all those who have and are serving
our country in the military. God Bless America!!
GOSPEL REFLECTION OF A
DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
Do you have enough? Many of us come from a nation of
material abundance. We have all the things we could pos-
sibly need not only to survive, but to thrive - food, shelter,
mental ability, income, access to medical care. Most peo-
ple in human history lived with far less than we. So why
are we so dissatisfied? Some Christians can be drawn to
the "prosperity Gospel." This is the idea that following
God will bring us material abundance in this life.
That surely seems to be the story of today's Gospel! Peter
and his friends chose - with some faith - to put out their
nets a final time at Jesus' command. "They caught a great
number of fish and their nets were tearing. They signaled
to their partners in the other boat to come to help them.
They came and filled both boats so that they were in dan-
ger of sinking." What gift! What abundance! What pros-
perity! Peter and his friends caught more fish than they'd
ever seen. Yet what is their response to this material
abundance, this gift from God? They leave it behind.
"When they brought their boats to the shore, they left
everything and followed him."
Praying for God to meet our physical, material needs is
not a bad thing! Jesus himself includes "give us this day
our daily bread" in the prayer he teaches his disciples. The
question is, how do we respond when our prayers are an-
swered? Do we thank God briefly, or perhaps ignore Him
completely and move on with our lives? Or do we re-
spond as Peter did? "God ? You showed up in an area that
has no bearing on my eternal salvation. You gave me a
gift I didn't even really need. You love me! You really do
love me." Is our gratitude only surface level? Or do we
allow ourselves, like Peter did, to respond with wonder,
awe, and deeper discipleship?

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
ANNUAL BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
The Knights of Columbus will once again
be distributing baby bottles for their annual
campaign. Last year they raised nearly
$1,600.00 which was used to help new
mothers through Catholic Charities and to
help maintain the ultrasound machines now
in service. Please see one of the Knights
after Mass to get your bottle. Please remember that all bot-
tles need returned by Father’s Day weekend, even empty
ones, for use next year. Thank you for your continued gener-
osity!
PRAYING THE ROSARY
The Knights of Columbus will be praying the rosary be-
fore each weekend Mass throughout the month of May. Plan
on arriving for Mass at least 30 minutes early to participate.
We also ask during this time of prayer that parishioners not
participating be as quiet as possible in respect for those pray-
ing. Thank you!
LENTEN CHARITY DONATIONS
This Lent we had a special collection for the missions at
all our masses at St Ann. We were able to raise $1,000 for
each of the three mission accounts: Our Guatemala Mission
Group, The diocesan Medical Mission in Chimbote Peru, and
The St James Society (whom I worked for in my mission
work in Peru). The remainder of the collections were deposit-
ed in our charity account here at St Ann to help those most in
need. Your generosity is a humble example of your willing-
ness to reach out to the least among us, thank you for all of
them!
THANK YOU FROM THE MISSION GROUP
We are so grateful for the generosity of all who have sup-
ported us through their prayers and donations. Our Mother’s
Day breakfast was once again a beautiful morning spent with
friends and families. We are also thankful for being chosen
as one of the recipients of the Lenten Charity donations. The
nuns and children of the Hogar (Home) in Patzun, Guatemala
pray for all of you every day. We have a group of 10 travel-
ing on mission in early June this year. Thank you for keep-
ing us in your prayers.

Every Sunday at Mass, Catholics around the world hear 3 or 4 passages from the Bible. We end
up listening to hundreds of passages from Scripture. Join us weekly as Dr. Brant Pitre takes us for
an in-depth Bible study on the Gospel readings, connecting them with the Old Testament reading
and Responsorial Psalm for each Sunday Mass.
You will learn the meaning of passages, why the various readings were chosen and put together,
and how the Old Testament reading points forward to the New Testament and how the New Testa-
ment fulfills the Old.
Understand the Biblical roots of the Catholic faith and how the readings that are given to us each
week are meant to be applied to our daily lives, walking with Christ as Disciples of the Lord.

Draw yourself taking crackers and a bowl of soup to your mother.
Mission for the Week
I will take three cans of food to the church for the poor.
Sharing the Gospel
Jesus said, "Love each other as I have loved you." He died on the
cross so that your sins and mine might be forgiven. Jesus was human
like you and me. He shared his food with friends. He visited and
healed the sick. He cried when his friends died. He told stories to help
people learn about his Father in heaven. When you show love for oth-
ers, Jesus smiles because he is very proud of you.
