Finish the Task is our nancial campaign to pay for the Worship Center, Music Suite and Fellowship Suite in our newest building. Thanks to those of you who have been giving faithfully to this campaign. We nished 2009 by being able to pay each of our quarterly payments and now we are o to the start of 2010.

Please pray and give to this campaign. With each family participating, the task will be accomplished. Pray for the sale of the piece of property that will allow us to move from paying quarterly interest payments to begin reducing the principal. It is so important that every one of us seek the Lord in this matter. No amount given is too small or too large. Everyone giving something does make a dierence and it will get the job done!

We are blessed people during these economically trying times. God has given us so much and we have an opportunity to give back for His glory. This campaign is designed to have the interest paid by the annual church budget and everything given to the Building Fund to go to principal. Until the land sells, and it will sell, we are treading water by giving to both funds in order that the church might continue to be found faithful in paying the interest debt each quarter. We serve God, who has been ever so faithful to us. We must be faithful to Him with our prayers and our giving.

Have a Blessed New Year, and be a Blessing this New Year,

Pastor [email protected]

Happy New Year! We have all experienced another Christmas, and we hope that you and your family were able to focus on its true meaning. We certainly enjoyed this Christmas and the special part that your family played in each event. The Children’s Musical was a true joy; the children did a great job and we are so proud of them! And, we had a great time during the kids’ fun night. The AWANA club participated in two mission projects and had a great time learning about the signicance of the Lottie Moon Christmas oering. These events were possible only because of your support and faithfulness; and for those, we are truly grateful.

We look forward to this New Year and pray that it will usher in a time of renewed commitment in your family. We look forward to seeing you in our programs. Please note below the reminder of weekly programs Taylor Road Baptist Church oers for your children.

We hope to see your family at church as we learn to love and serve our Savior together. Have a blessed New Year!!

WOW, what a time of celebrating Jesus’ birthday! The preschoolers enjoyed singing for everyone; having a visit from an angel, hearing about the mission trip to Guatemala; and, of course, the big birthday party.

Mark your calendars for July 19-23, Roundin’up Questions, Driven’ Home Answers - VBS 2010. Saddle up for VBS where kids will be ridin’ the ridge and roundin’ up questions like: What is God’s plan for me?” and “ How can I be like Jesus at the end of the day?” They’ll discover that God’s word has all the answers.

Remember Preschool Choir will continue on Sunday, January 4, at 5:30 p.m. and Mission Friends will resume on Wednesday, January 7, at 6:30 p.m.

I hope that everyone had a great holiday. In the Student Ministry this month, we have several exciting things going on that I would love to tell you about. First, our students will be singing several songs in the evening worship service on January 3. We hope that you will come and hear them as they help lead worship that night.

Also, the students are having two after-church fellowships on Sunday evenings in January. These fellowships are on Sunday night January 10 and January 24. The locations will be announced the week of each fellowship. A very special thanks to the Guttensohns for hosting our last fellowship. The students who attended all had a blast. Thanks also to those who provided food for that event. If you would like to host an after-church event on a Sunday night, or help provide food, please contact me. The Student Ministry will sponsor a local mission project on Saturday, January 23. This project will help prepare students for working with the North American Mission Board on our Spring Break and Summer mission trips planned for later this year. I can't wait to see the impact that our students will have in people's lives through missions this year. Stay tuned for pictures and a follow-up article about this. Pray for our students as we have begun a new time of Outreach and Discipleship. We are looking forward to growing in our Faith together.

Serving Him Together,

Keeton Blakeney

Many good things have happened at Taylor Road Baptist Church this past year because of the good people at church. People have volunteered in many ways to serve the needs of others in our church, our community, our city, and our world. We have had volunteers teach our Bible study program on Sundays, work in the nursery, cook meals for the Baptist Campus Ministries, sew clothes for children in Brazil, cook meals on Wednesdays and other occasions, hand out bulletins, collect and count the oerings, sing in the choir, work inthe Media Ministry, serve at Cleveland Court, take part in mission trips, answer the phone, greet people, and the list goes on and on. All of this is to say THANK YOU from the depth of our hearts for being a church that loves and cares for one another and is willing to serve. May we see the year 2010 as being an even greater year of volunteering and service to the Kingdom work at TRBC.

Sunday School is the backbone for all that goes on at Taylor Road Baptist Church, and we have a place for each member of your family. We want this to be a year of each member of our church growing in discipleship through the study of God's Word. Our Bible study is a time for people of all ages to connect with others in the church for life-changing study. It is the place to connect for fellowship, support, encouragement and service to others. Make your commitment now that you and your family will serve the Lord this year by being in His house on Sunday mornings in 2010.

I am sure you have noticed this month that Archways looks a little dierent. All the same content, just laid out a little dierent. One of the biggest changes is that this month’s edition is “saddle stitched”, which is the style fold and staples you see on the inside of the magazine. Being able to staple it meant we don’t have to fold it in half like a newsletter anymore, which labor-wise and style-wise is an improvement. Hopefully, we are getting a little closer to the magazine style that we are trying to achieve!

I almost don’t want to point it out, but you might notice that the calendar is gone from the back page. All the information that previously was in calendar form is now in a list. We made this change to make room for a section on new members. We will include photos and information about new members and recent baptisms. You can tear o this page and stick it on your fridge to remind you to pray for those who have made recent decisions and changes. At the end of the month, you can add the page to your Church Directory notebook.

Each ministry area will have a section in Archways almost every month from now on. This section that I am writing will rotate among Communication, the Korean Ministry and Administration depending on what is happening each month. There is also a new page just for Missions where you’ll learn about missions activities that have been completed at Taylor Road and get information on upcoming opportunities to participate in missions.

Blessings In Christ,

Brian Harris

This is the perfect time to become a member of our Music Ministry. Several of you have told me that you want to give choir a try after the Christmas Musical. Well, whether you are interested in Worship Choir, Children’s Choir, or Preschool Choir, this is a great time to join.

In Worship Choir we have a lot of great things planned for 2010. At our rehearsal on January 13, we will discuss some of our 2010 plans and ocially kick o our new quarter of music, including our plans for Easter and the Summer. One of the new things we have been doing in Worship Choir is reading a book together each quarter. Last quarter we read "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan and this quarter we will study a book about "worship" to try to discover God's intention for the purpose of worship and how we can learn to glorify Him more as we worship together each week.

Below is a schedule of leaders and meeting locations for each choir so you can easily nd your way. PLEASE, prayerfully consider becoming a part of this vital church ministry.

In recent months, many members and friends of the Taylor Road Baptist Church family have heard, and heeded, the call of Christ to go, to rise, to stand, to share His message with the lost; beginning at the church doors and reaching to those places near and far where He leads. We have caught a glimpse of His vision for TRBC to become a Great Commission church! In November, a team from TRBC – Bruce Hilley, Ron and Catherine Moore, Sunny and Jason Pratt, Adam Smith, and Miles Smith – answered the call. Each of us has heard the Lord say, as He did to Isaiah, “Whom shall I send?”; and we responded along the acceptance spectrum from “Here am I, send me” to “Lord, I don’t know about this, but I’m willing to try.” Little did we know that answering the call would change our lives and many others as well.

Gospel Outreach is an on-going project of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board and has been in operation for several years in Central American countries, including Guatemala. The target population is communities that have not been evangelized or where there is little Christian inuence. Under the guidance of missionaries like Larry and Sarah Plyer, teams of volunteers assist with door-to-door evangelism to tell individuals about Jesus, the Son of God; God’s immeasurable love and His plan for eternal life with Him – eternal life that begins right here on earth the moment a sinner accepts, believes, confesses, and repents.

We went to the community of Dia de los Reyes, or Dia del Reyes in the local language – translated Day of the Kings – near Santa Barbara and the southwest coast of Guatemala. A Baptist church was established there about eight years ago. But, due to the lack of mature Christians to disciple the few converts– compounded by the intermingled inuences of Catholicism, the Mayan Indian culture, two practic-ing witch doctors, and a smattering of “Pentecostal” legalism – the church has not grown. (The inuences may be dierent, but you don’t have to travel across a border to witness that phenomenon!) There’s a small core of very dedicated Christians in Iglesia Bautista Esmirna, Smyrna Baptist Church, with a very small man who is big on God as a pastor. Pastor Eric Benito needed help to encourage his congregation and to show them how to share the Good News with lost souls in the village of Dia del Reyes. (Interestingly, Smyrna was the New Testa-ment church that experienced the most struggles and suering.)

It’s a humbling experience to walk on unpaved, dirt streets to share the love and message of Jesus. As we went, the local church members made notations for the pastor about decisions and who was willing to host a Bible study. Since there is already a church, the intent of the Bible studies is to disciple, “grow” and multiply the new and the not-so-new Christians.

In light of the pool of lost people in Guatemala, the harvest of 26 souls may seem relatively small to you as a reader of this testimony. But, Praise God!, in His economy, each and every single soul, one soul at a time, is HUGE!!! Of the 26 people who prayed decisions for Christ, 16 wanted to have a Bible study in their homes. Three hundred teen (315) books of the Gospel of Luke, printed in Spanish, were placed by a team member into the hands of villagers, along with hundreds of tracts. Considering the fact that there were many family members and neighbors standing near and listening while the Gospel was presented aloud in each yard, doorway, or other living area; new seeds were planted, previously planted seeds were watered, and in some cases, ground that is just as dense as east Montgomery prairie soil was plowed. No doubt, God can use the multiplication principle in Dia del Reyes as he did among rst century churches described in the New Testament.

During 2010, our church will sponsor or participate in a number of home and foreign mission activities. I challenge you to take advantage of one or more of these opportunities to be a blessing and to be blessed! As the sign over the pulpit in Smyrna Baptist Church in Dia del Reyes exclaimed, “To God be all the glory!!” - Catherine Moore (for the TRBC 2009 Guatemala Mission Team)

Matthew 28:19 …go and make disciples of all nations…”

“…rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose…to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light…”
