John the Baptist was commissioned by the Lord to prepare the
way for the coming of Christ. Before any great work can be done,
preparations must be made. During this time of year, families are
planning get-aways and time to spend with loved ones and friends.
Even though we take a vacation from other responsibilities, we
must not take a vacation spiritually.
Here are three questions to consider for your spiritual summer
surge:
1. Where are you going?
Where does God want you to go during this summer to discover
more of His grace and power? John the Baptist was going to
declare the message of repentance. If you do not settle in your
heart the direction that the Lord has for you, you will wander
with aimless direction. If you do not aim for anything, you are
guaranteed to hit it every time.
2. How are you going to get to your destination?
What is your mode of transportation for getting from where you
are with God to where He is calling you to be? John spent his
life in the desert being prepared by God. Here are a few tips for
getting to your destination.
a) Read the map, the Word of God.
b) Meditate on the map – spend time in Prayer, in solitude as you
meditate. It’s amazing how you can hear God when you turn off
the noise.
c) Declare the greatness of God revealed on the map – Worship
God.
d) Study the map – Join with others on your journey in Small
Group Bible Study. This experience is encouraging and uplifting.
You are not traveling alone!
3. What are you going to do?
This question identifies your purpose. What is it that God wants
you to do?
John’s purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus. God wants
to use your life to advance His kingdom to make a difference.
John knew where he was going – to declare repentance, to make
a difference. We must keep our mental focus on Jesus and His
spiritual purpose for our lives.
Have a great spiritual summer surge!
In His Love,
Andy

Summer is here! On Wednesday night, June 10, we will kick off our summer schedule for children. The summer will be filled with games, Bible study, fun, and enjoying the great outdoors! Each week teams will compete in the summer-long tournament to see who will come out on top in August. (You may not be able to come every week, but come every week that you can.)
Vacation Bible School, July 20-24, is quickly approaching. If you can make the time and are interested in helping with VBS, please let us know. We always need quite a few willing volunteers. Volunteer cards will be available in an upcoming Sunday Order of Worship.
We also are making plans for a fishing day, movie night, and other fun summer activities for children. Watch for announcements coming soon!
Lastly, please remember to pray for the children (and chaperones) who will go to Panama City Beach for camp this month. We will leave on Monday, June 1, and return on Friday, June 5. This is always a fun trip, and is also a great time for children to get serious about where their lives are going and Who is in control. We are praying for decisions to be made and lives to be changed. Won’t you join us in prayer? We hope everyone has a great summer vacation. Don’t forget to make church attendance a top priority!
