From the Pastors Desk Dear Parish Family, I had a lovely time in Tassie over the last weekend. Terribly cold but the days were nice. It was wonderful to be part of both Theresa and Johns wedding and Layla Louises baptism. There is always something unique about the journey we all make together but I feel particularly privileged to be able to walk with people such as the young couple and young family I celebrated with. I was pleased to have had the opportunity to go. I know you will have cared for Fr Greg Arnold who came to celebrate the Eucharist with you during my absence.

I wanted to clarify just a couple of points in relation to planned giving and the direct debit form I spoke of a weekend ago. Ive heard on the grapevine that I caused some confusion.

Firstly, can I assure you that regardless of the process you use to donate to this parish that all the money given comes to us here in Forster-Tuncurry. It doesnt matter how you give as long as you are clear that you are giving to this parish it cant be syphoned off for other purposes. We do pay a contribution to the work and support of the Bishop its a percentage of our total income and part of our commitment to his support and welfare as well as his good works more broadly across the Diocese.

Secondly, you can donate in any way you feel comfortable by either being in our planned giving program with an envelope, by giving freely on the weekends you come to church by simply placing your donation on the plate as it passes, by the direct debit form or simply dropping your contribution in to the parish office. You can also donate time and energy to the works of the church in a thousand different ways. All go to build the kingdom of God.

The direct debit was just one way I thought of with the finance committee to ensure that we have a more consistent flow of income so that whenever and whatever our bills are we have the finances to pay them. It was just a way of letting you continue to support your community, our community when you are absent for any length of time. One benefit of the direct debit is the set and forget aspect when money goes directly from my bank account like that I simply adjust my budget and wants/needs accordingly and I dont miss it as much.

Only you know what you can afford to contribute and as I suggested work out your worst week and make that your direct debit/planned giving contribution and when you are having a better week maybe you could up the amount a little then via the plate as it passes

during Mass. You know how hard it is to pay bills and budget finances as well as I do and I fully appreciate the demands on your time and finances. I stand in awe at how generous with both this community is.

Planned giving, volunteering etc. are not competition pieces or moments. There is no comparison one person to another: its personal. I have to be able to say this is what I can do rather than they are doing more or they are doing less than me: it is what I can give or do and only I know what that can and should look like. PS no one is keeping a tally.

I will mention this again just briefly after our Masses this weekend and if there are concerns let me know. Just remember what happened with the workers who came to work in the vineyard and what they were paid at the end of their working day.

    Kind regards from Gods vineyard,

    Fr Greg

Sr Louises 70th Anniversary Sr Louise will be celebrating the 70th Anniversary of her final profession this year. In honour of this event we will be having 11am Mass in Forster followed by lunch on Saturday 4th July in the hall.

Parishioners are invited to attend. If you would like to join us please provide your name at the rear of the church before Saturday 27th June.

Hall Committee Required The hall requires a committee to discuss and generate policies around its use. There are already a number of events taking place each week in the hall. There may be opportunities to put it to greater use if we can involve a number of parishioners in the discussion.

If you would like to be involved please contact the parish office.

Vocation ViewTrinity Sunday God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. When we go out to make disciples of all nations we have a lot to tell. Homily by Richard Leonard SJ One of the things we often hear in times of domestic, local or international crisis is that everyone pulled together. We are rightly proud, and a few times amazed, at how people can set aside their differences and strive for the common good. Sometimes this experience of working together has the long-lasting benefit of breaking down boundaries. Other times, sadly, old enmities, prejudices and suspicions return when the crisis is over.

Trinity Sunday celebrates that whether we are in crisis

or not, in season and out of season, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit do nothing but pull together to love and save us. What we glimpse as the best attribute of our family, town or nation defines who our Christian God is, and what they see, how they judge and the way they act toward the world.

A famous icon of the Trinity depicts the three persons at a table where there are four place settings. The final place, in the lower half of the painting, invites the viewer to take the seat and join them. Its profound theology and masterful art, but we can quickly misunderstand it.

We are not just personally invited to join in the very life of God, and pull together with them in their loving and saving of the world. The seat at the table is reserved for all of humanity.

In practical terms it is impossible to profess belief in the Trinity, on the one hand, and then work at things which pull the human family apart, on the other. It is scandalous to hold to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and be known as racist, bigoted and sexist, to not care about refugees or those who die each day of starvation. We cannot keep signing ourselves in the name of a Triune God and then work hard at getting richer and more secure while the rest of humanity grow poorer and lack the necessities for human dignity. Ghandi once said, I love the New Testament and the Christian ideas about God and I would take the waters of Christian baptism tomorrow if I saw Christians practise what they the preach.

Trinity Sunday is not about theological mathematics, working out how three goes into one. Its about gaining the strength at this Eucharist to pull together to see that all of Gods children have the opportunity to hear the good news of how much God loves us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and so can take their privileged place at Gods table. Most people will learn about the saving love of God primarily through the way they observe us seeing, judging and acting.

Its not by accident that in our Catholic tradition the usual moment we invoke the Trinity is when we make the sign of the cross. It reminds us that we cannot have our cake and eat it too. Every time we profess the Trinity we recommit ourselves to die to self so that Gods saving love may be realised for everyone, everywhere.

So lets not only profess our belief in the three persons that make up our one God, but live the life that goes with it, In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    Richard Leonard SJ.
