Women of Heart, Women of Faith, Women of Courage

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) is a four-year college preparatory school with an unparalleled

leadership program and variety of co-curricular activities. Founded in 1882, OLP has faithfully served

families of San Diego County for the past 133 years. Young women are educated in the spirit of excellence

and innovation that characterizes the founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Our MissionAs a Catholic school, we are committed to helping our students become active participants in building Christ’s kingdom

of justice, love and peace. As a school rooted in the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph, OLP promotes the cultivation

of “gentleness, peace and joy” as we respond to the needs of the “dear neighbor” both in our midst and in our human

community. Through our college preparatory program, our mission is to empower our students to become knowledgeable

in skills needed to achieve success in post-secondary studies, and to make informed and values-driven decisions in the

context of today’s world. As a result of these endeavors, and working with parents as our educational partners providing a

family context of faith-in-action, the Academy of Our Lady of Peace strives to graduate responsible women educated to the

needs of society.

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace has been educating girls since 1882. Our curriculum and instruction is designed specifically for girls. We are able to focus solely on how girls learn and what girls need the most to be successful.

OLP provides all the tools needed to thrive at the collegiate level through the use of the block schedule and college preparatory curriculum, which includes classes in: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Visual & Performing Arts, World Languages, Computer Science, Religious Studies and Physical Education.

Creativity is at the forefront of what 21st Century companies are looking for in their employees. Here at OLP, students continue to break the mold and think outside the box of normalcy and expectations. At OLP, students develop the skills necessary to take on any challenge.

Our rigorous curriculum includes access to 48 classes within the STEAM disciplines.

We are committed to supporting the passions of our students and educating the next generation of female leaders and innovators in all fields. Studies show that graduates of girls schools are three times more likely to consider a career in engineering.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) subjects are integrated throughout our rigorous curriculum, giving our girls the opportunity to learn and innovate across a variety of disciplines.

OLP instilled in me a strong sense of work ethic and dedication that has proved invaluable throughout my undergraduate chemistry major and currently in medical school. I would not be where I am today without the strong education and academic mentoring I received in my four years at OLP. --Megan Coughlin ’08, 2012 graduate of U.S. Naval Academy and currently beginning her fourth year of medical school at Georgetown University.

Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1882, OLP has successfully educated young women for more than 133 years to meet the needs of society.

The OLP Department of Religious Studies operates from the CSJ tradition of “Faith in Action.” The curriculum is rooted in balancing formation with information and is integrated across all disciplines under the guidance of the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.

With the integration of a Campus Ministry program rooted in student leadership, students are encouraged to engage in their faith and lead others through a vibrant faith experience. Religious Studies in the classroom is complemented with class level retreats for all grade levels. Liturgies are planned by students and led by visiting Priests from all over the San Diego Diocese.

OLP women serve in local and international communities: excellence tempered with gentleness, peace and joy, modeled after the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Students are required to complete 85 hours of service by the time they graduate; however, most go above and beyond the minimum requirements because the culture of our community is that of serving the “dear neighbor.” In fact, the class of 2015 completed a total of 4,901 hours, well beyond the 1,640 hours required of them for graduation.

At OLP, girls take center stage. The philosophy of the Visual and Performing Arts Department is based on the principle that the arts are an essential and fundamental component of a sound education. Education in the arts is an important and necessary endeavor that nurtures the spiritual, moral, psychological and social growth of all students.

OLP offers a variety of visual and performing arts options including campus student organizations, theatre performances, competitions and special programs and classes.

The Memory ProjectThe Memory Project is a unique initiative in which art students create portraits for children and teens around the world. Members of the National Art Honor Society have created portraits for children in Rwanda, Haiti, Vietnam, The Philippines and Afghanistan, who have been neglected, orphaned or disadvantaged. The children had very few photos to serve as memories of their early years, so these portraits serve as a positive memory of their childhood. The below photos were made for children in Paraguay.

National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in the visual arts.

The International Thespian Society has been honoring excellence in the work of theatre students since 1929. Each year OLP’s Thespian Troupe 4843 performs in a play in the Spring and then uses the proceeds to travel to the Thespian Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska where they enjoy seven days of award winning shows, workshops, college auditions, exploring college life, and fun! Students also compete for scholarships. At the end of the year, students can earn an “Honor Thespian” letter through 60 hours of work in the department or an “Honor Thespian Scholar” award for 60 hours and a 3.5 GPA.

Choral Club is open to all students and participates in all liturgies and some arts festivals.

collegiate leaders

OLP graduates are the proven innovators and leaders of tomorrow. OLP’s curriculum, values and culture shape young women who are exceptionally well-prepared for the next phase of their journey. Following an extensive four years of academic and extracurricular planning, college counseling meetings, standardized test taking, college visits, and workshops, an OLP senior is fully equipped to apply to college. In fact 100% of our student population consistently pursues higher education upon graduating from OLP.

OLP students are empowered and prepared to be the leaders of tomorrow because the college preparatory curriculum at OLP ensures they become “all of which woman is capable”.

There are more than 340 leadership opportunities available annually, encompassing many realms of campus life, including student life, athletics and the performing arts. At OLP, girls occupy every leadership role which affords each student a wealth of peer role models.

The Student Council at OLP is comprised of more than 50 elected student leaders with the common goal of planning school activities and making the school year exciting and memorable.

Leadership experiences at OLP help prepare our graduates for college and beyond.

OLP students are also afforded the opportunity to interact with key female business leaders in the community through the annual Women’s Symposium. This is just one way that OLP students are encouraged to make valuable connections with women who have found success in our world.

The BeYOUtiful Project is a student organized conference for more than 200 middle school girls who live throughout San Diego and Mexico. The girls learn about confidence, leadership and empowering one another to realize the beauty each intrinsically holds.
