What is SHRP?

SHRP stands for the School of Health Related Professions, one of nine schools of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Our specialization is two-fold:

(1) Preparing students for entry-level health care careers.

(2) Educating health professionals for career advancement.

What types of degrees and programs does SHRP offer?

Programs are at all levels including the Doctoral, Masters, Bachelors, Associate and Certificate levels. Many programs are offered in conjunction with our thirty-four SHRP affiliate colleges and universities.

What does it mean that SHRP has affiliations with other institutions?

Affiliations are partnerships that SHRP has formed with other higher education institutions to provide you with the best education possible. SHRP offers all of the health-related courses and the affiliates offer the general education, basic sciences, and liberal arts courses. In some programs, you start coursework at the affiliate before taking classes on the Rutgers campus. You may receive a joint degree from Rutgers and the affiliate, or you may receive a degree from an affiliate and a certificate or degree from Rutgers. It is all determined by the program you choose.

Ch

oices… Try a Course

At SHRP you can take up to twelve credits as a non-matriculated student.

It’s a great opportunity to experience coursework before applying for a specific degree. Somes students who have missed program application deadlines start taking courses as a non-matriculated student and then apply for admission to a program, meeting the next deadline.

The Office of Enrollment Services enrolls non-matriculated students. Call 973-972-5454 or on-line at http://shrp.rutgers.edu for information.

Are you thinking about health care careers or are you looking for career advancement in your

Growth in the health care industry has propelled Rutgers’ School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) into the forefront of preparing students for careers in the fast-paced health care environment. More than 1500 students attend SHRP, which is renowned for specializing in educating health care practitioners. Our programs have received national recognition and are widely respected in the health care field. Whatever program you choose, all programs have one thing in common – exceptional preparation for an exciting health-related career.

Page 3: Admissions Brochure (pdf)

Where do I apply for admission?

It depends on the program. Review the admission steps in this brochure and refer to the chart that follows for specific admission criteria. For many programs you may also apply online at http://shrp.rutgers.edu/admissions/online_app.htm.

Where do I register?

As a general rule of thumb, you register where you pay tuition, (SHRP or an affiliate)

Where do I take classes?

Depending on the program, you may take classes on any of the four SHRP campuses (Newark, Scotch Plains, Piscataway, Stratford) or over the Internet.

Where do I get clinical experience?

SHRP has hundreds of clinical sites where you may obtain practical experience. You have the opportunity to work with diverse populations and with other health professionals. Your experience could take you to an urban or rural setting, or even back to your hometown.

What courses are offered over the Internet?

More and more courses and programs are being offered over the Internet. Check our online course schedule at http://shrp.rutgers.edu/course_schedule/sched.html each course record will indicate the campus or if web-based.

Can I take courses on a full-time or part-time basis?

Some programs require full-time attendance and others provide the option of attending full-time or part-time. Refer to the following chart for program requirements.

Who are the faculty that make up SHRP?

SHRP is proud of its top-notch faculty. Many are regionally and nationally recognized leaders in their field. Most have been practitioners themselves. All are committed to helping students receive a high-caliber education.

What is the advantage of attending SHRP?

The big advantage is that SHRP specializes only in health care education. All our resources go toward supporting a health care educational environment that attracts and nurtures the very best faculty and students.

Admission Steps

You may obtain an application to the program of your choice through (1) SHRP Enrollment Services (2) The Program Director when a specific program application is required or (3) The affiliate’s Admissions Office. The program chart tells you where to apply and when to apply.

Your questions can be answered by members of the Office of Enrollment Services, School of Health Related Professions, 65 Bergen Street, Room 149, Newark, NJ 07107.
