Akdeniz University was founded in Antalya in 1982, and provides education and training leading to internationally recognised qualifications in 23 Faculties, 7 Graduate Schools, 4 Schools, 12 Vocational Schools and 1 Conservatory which together provide 457 separate programmes at the level of associate degree, master's degree, doctorate degree, as well as specialisation in medicine, for around 70,000 students.

Akdeniz University attaches the highest importance to internationalization within the changing environment demanded by growing globalisation. Within this context, Akdeniz University aims to develop an internationalization strategy and approach which is appropriate for the provision of education, training, research and service in a systematic way, which will increase the quality of work that we deliver in these fields, and which will in turn strengthen both our regional and global position. Within the framework of its internalization strategy, Akdeniz University provides valuable international education opportunities for its students through participation in the European Union Education and Youth Programmes (Erasmus+ Programme), the Bologna Process, the Mevlana and Farabi Exchange Programmes, as well as the IAESTE Programme and bilateral cooperation activities.
