Texas A&M University–Commerce Since1889TexasA&MUniversity-CommercehasbeeneducatingthepeopleofTexas,andbeyond. A member of the prestigious Texas A&M University System and located inCommerce,theuniversityhascampusesinDallas,Mesquite,NavarroCollegeandMidlothian,andconductsclassesinMcKinney,theCollinCounty Community College District, and at Northeast TexasCommunityCollege.FounderWilliamLeonidasMayogavehisnameto Lion athletics and his creed of "ceaseless industry, fearlessinvestigation, unfettered thought, and unselfish service to others"continuestothisday.TheuniversitybeganasEastTexasNormalCollege inCooper,butwhenthecampuswasdestroyedbyfirein1894theuniversitymovedto its present location. When the State of Texas purchased thecampus in1917,ournamewaschangedtoEastTexasStateNormalCollege. In1923, theschoolwasrenamedEastTexasStateTeachersCollege.Thegraduateprogramwasaddedin1935,andin1957theLegislature,recognizingwehadbroadenedfromteachereducation,changed our name to East Texas State College. Following the inauguration of the firstdoctoralprogramin1962,thenamewaschangedtoEastTexasStateUniversityandin1996becameA&M-Commerce.

VII. Playing Space: Thetheatrefacilityhasanopenstageormodifiedthrust/apronwithaprosceniumopeningof36feet.Fromthefrontofthestagetotheprosceniumatcenterlineisapproximately18feet.Blackcurtainswillbehungupstageoftheprosceniumtoprovidesideexitsandbacking.Thefinalblackcrossoverwillbehungapproximately18feetupstageoftheproscenium.Theactcurtainisnotused(playsusuallystartfromablackout).Thisvariationintherules,duetothearchitectureofthebuilding,hasbeenapprovedbytheleagueforallschoolsatthiscontest. VIII. Timekeeping: Therewillbethreetimekeepers:twointheauditoriumandonebackstagetorecordthetimesoftheplays.Timescheduleswillbestrictlyadheredto,inaccordancewithUILrulesgoverningsame. IX. Operation of Equipment: AnexperiencedcrewfromTexasA&MUniversity-Commercewillbeonhandtoassistyouwiththetechnicalproductionofyourplay.Thelightandsoundconsoleswillbeoperatedbyyourstudents,withassistancefromourlocalcrew.Ineithercase,yourstudentsshouldexpecttoassistthelocalcrews. X. Lighting: TheTexasA&MUniversityCommerceTheatreisequippedwithanETCIONXE20lightingconsole,controlling296dimmers.Duringyourperformance,yourlightingtechnicianmayeitheroperatelightingcuesthatyouhavestoredinthecomputerduringyourrehearsaltimeormanuallycontrolthedimmers,viapre-setsub-masters.Enclosedisasimplifiedplanoftheareas,whichcanbegroupedasninesubmastersifschoolswishtoworkwiththissimplerconcept.Lightswillbepre-settocoverallactingareas.Lightingcuescaneitherbemanuallyoperatedbyusingpre-setsub-mastersorwrittenascues.Therewillbealightingkeyprovidedsothatyoumayunderstandhowtheareasaresetup.Theintensityoflightisusuallyregulatedtosuityourneeds,however,elaborateorspecialcoloreffectscannotbeprovided.Lightscannotbegenerallyre-setforanyoneplay.Oneortwospecialsperplaymaybeavailableforeachplayiftheyarerequestedinadvance.Colorwasheswillbeavailablebywayofconventionalinstrumentsutilizingaredwashandabluewash.

Sound: TheTexasA&MUniversity-CommerceTheatreisequippedwitha24channelAllen&Healthsoundconsole.Basicmixingispossible.Soundcancomefromtwoprosceniummountedspeakers.Fadingispossibleleft–to-right.Youmaybringyoursoundcues/designoncompactdisc,laptopcomputer,orMp3musicdevice.Standardinputs(1/8”“headphonestyle”jacktoL/Rstereo)fromthesedevicestooursoundconsolewillbeavailable.Youmaybringyourownsoundsystem,ifitiskeptoffthestage(seerules),butitmusteitherstand-aloneorbecompatiblewithoursystem.Howeveryoursoundsystem/designiscomprised,itisyourresponsibilitytomakesure,inadvance,thatitiscompatiblewithoursoundsystem.Offstagelocationsforyoursoundsystemshaveaviewofthestagethroughvideomonitors. University Information PresidentRudinDr.MarkJ.Rudinbecamethe13thPresidentofTexasA&MUniversity-CommerceonAugust16,2018,andimmediatelybeganworkonthefollowingstrategicinitiatives:studentsuccess,welfareoffacultyandstaff,expandingresearch,economicdevelopment,achievingdistinction/branding,innovativeandcivilcampusculture,andfiscalresponsibilityandsustainability.Prior to assuming the presidency at A&M-Commerce,Dr. Rudinserved as the Vice President for Research and EconomicDevelopmentatBoiseStateUniversity.Overthecourseof11yearsthere,heplayedacentralroleinexpandingtheresearchactivityat the university. Before Boise State, Dr. Rudin served at theUniversity ofNevada, LasVegas (UNLV) as theAssociate Vice President and then as theSeniorVicePresidentforResearchpriortobecomingtheInterimVicePresidentforResearchandGraduateDean.Other previouspositions includeTechnical/AdministrativeAssistantwiththeU.S.DepartmentofEnergy(DOE),seniorProgramSpecialist/ProjectEngineerwithEG&G Idaho, Inc., and instructor in the Department of Health Physics at Idaho StateUniversity.He holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Purdue University, with aconcentrationinHealthPhysics.Dr.Rudin’swife,Elizabeth“Libby”(Schreiber)Rudin,isafellowPurdueUniversitygraduateandchemist.TheyaretheproudparentsofNoah,MiaandIzzy,andresideoncampus inHeritage House, the historic home of East Texas State University and A&M-Commercepresidents.RayburnStudentCenter(#33onCampusMap)Openedin2009,ourstateoftheartstudentcenterhasmanybuiltinfeaturessuchasthelightingsystems,waterfreeurinals,materialsusedinfurnitureandastateoftheartlightingcontrol system that isbasedonanastronomical clock set forour latitudeand longitude.Safety systems are being put into place and a major convenience factor – lockers withelectricaloutletssoyoucanrechargeyourelectronicswhiledining,meetingorattendingafunction.

SamRayburn,whograduatedin1903fromwhatwasthenEast TexasNormal College, fondly remembered his almamater as a place that gave even the poorest students achance to succeed. Rayburn himself swept floors at thecollege to earn the education that later enabled him toserve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representativeslongerthananyoneelse.

Planetarium(#34onCampusMap)Texas A&M University-Commerce is proud to announce theopeningofitsstate-of-the-artplanetarium.Theplanetariumhasa40-footdomeandaDigistar5highresolutiondigitalprojectionsystem which fills the dome with sights and sounds beyondimagination. TheMorrisRecreationCenter is the focalpointof theA&M-Commercecampusandservesasthe"heartbeat"ofstudentlife.
The $12 million dollar state-of-the-art MorrisRecreation Center, opened in June 2003. The Morris
