The four groups of the 7:3rd Wing departed thewing assambly pOint at 1200 on course, for the briefed pointo . 29 -30' N 1370-37' E. The formations encountered a front at 280_OO"N. and the aircrai't were required to break formation and pro-ceed to landfa.ll il'ldiviriual1y. Navigation vIas made extremelydifficult by the 400 miles of frontal condition encounteredNavigators were unable to read drift or use celestial aids," A sa result, they were o1illiged to base their dead reckoning on metrowinds.

    2. Win.us at bom"bing a I ti tude Were predicted at 280 atlIO knots and exp er te nced at 2750 at 125 knots.

    3. After penetration of the front, aircraft made visualand radar orientation at landfall but in most cases bombedlast resort targets beo au se of their inability to reassemble.

    4. Aircraft stayed above weather conditions on the routehome, remaining at altitude and following the briefed coursewi thout Gleviation.

    5. The return home at high altitude and the failure tobomb the primary target shortened the total time of flight toan av-erage time of 13 :15 as compared with the briefed time of14:30.
