Be Still … cultivating the soul of your heart
Weekly meditation group for those who wish to follow “The Way of Perfection” as outlined by St. Teresa of Avi-la in the book by this same name. This will be the start of our journey through the Interior Castle - the 7 dwelling places of the soil. We will meet on Wednesday nights from 7PM to 8:30PM starting on October 9 in PAC-C.
Sisters and Brothers of St. Lucy: in December of 2009 the parish participated in a Santa Clara program that provided new, low energy Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) for the church. Both the cost of the light bulbs and their installation was free to St. Lucy. The results of this pro-ject have been two-fold: 1) most important, the energy costs for the church are now about 30% of what they were with old halogen lights; and 2) the failure rate of the new bulbs has been unac-ceptable. If you were to turn your eyes to the heavens while in church, you may have noticed that on any given day there were many lights out. Our experience has been that approximately 30% of the bulbs fail every 6 months. Given that there are 254 light bulbs in the church ceiling, that means we were spending a good bit of time and energy (no pun in-tended) replacing light bulbs. This has also increased the wear and tear on the light fixtures themselves and we now have three that need repair. The good news is that the cost of new, even more energy efficient LED bulbs has dropped and made it possible to initiate a pilot project to see if the LED bulbs are any better suited to illuminate our church than the CFLs. This past Wednesday Bill Winters, Paul Hopwood, Chuck Rombeck, Mike Yarbrough, Steve Duffy, David Woodham and Mike Huntington of the Bishop O’Dowd Knights of Columbus Round Table assisted me and Vince Cortez in installing 54 LED lights in the highest areas of the church ceiling. These new lights are brighter than the CFLs and have a much longer projected lifespan. They also give the church a much brighter appearance – note that the mosaic of Jesus behind the altar is now noticeably brighter. We plan to monitor the failure rate of the new LEDs between now and Christmas. If they have the low failure rate we expect them to have, we will purchase sufficient LED bulbs to upgrade the remaining lights. A very special Thank You! to the Knights for spending an entire day replacing lights in the church, PAC and grounds!
Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting on Wednes-day, October 16 @ 11 am in the PAC "C" room.
In case you were wondering…. One of the projectors has been broken now for several weeks. It is very complicated to dismount it from the ceiling, requiring the use of a lift in order to avoid damage to the projector and injury to the person-nel involved. This past Wednesday we had a lift on-site and were finally able to dismount it from the ceiling and have shipped it back to the factory for repair. We should have it back in about two week.
St. Lucy Parish welcomes these newly baptized children. Jazlyn Soto Vazquez and Madison Marie Niczewicz

In addition to participating in the 40 Days for Life Cam-paign, October is "Respect Life" month. We are asked to "Open your hearts to Life!" Today, pray about and com-mit to doing something to help. As citizens, volunteers, neighbors and family members we can help those in need and protect vulnerable persons from abuse and death.
Another way to "Respect Life" make a commitment to participate in the 40 Days for Life Campaign. Faith-fully pray and fast at home. Pray at The Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic at 1691 The Alameda, San Jose.
HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS CAN HELP St. Lucy’s Telephone Prayer Chain
If you know of someone who is homebound and wishes to be a part of a ministry, this is the perfect one! This ministry is a group of people answering special prayer requests. We all know how important prayer is in our lives, and we have all had times when we wanted to get all the prayers we could to help us. You would be doing such a great ser-vice for the church by being a part of this! There are no meetings to attend. You only have to commit to pray for the person or persons asking for prayer. You will only have to make one call (to the next person on the prayer chain), to let that person know what the prayer request is. You are free to pray in any way that is comfortable for you. If you would like to join us, please contact Joie @ 408/866-7019.

Jazlyn Soto Vazquez and Madison Marie Niczewicz
