Baptisms: Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

Weddings: Arrangements should be made with a priest through the Rectory Office at least six months prior to the desired date. All couples must attend Pre-Cana classes which are normally scheduled in March.

Funerals:

Arrangements are made with the Rectory Office through the funeral director before publication in the newspapers.

ЙОРДАНСЬКЕ БЛАГОСЛОВЕННЯ ОТЦЯ І ГЛАВИ УГКЦ БЛАЖЕННІШОГО СВЯТОСЛАВА

Дорогі в Христі брати і сестри!

Разом із Вашим священиком-душпастирем дозвольте й мені завітати сьогодні до Вашого гостинного дому та

уділити Вам оце традиційне йорданське благословення. Свято Йордану щороку нам нагадує, що у водах Святого

Хрещення ми народилися до нового життя і стали дітьми Божими. А бути дітьми Божими означає думати,

говорити і чинити так, щоб світ міг пізнати, що ми — Христові учні.

Наша церковна традиція також називає це свято Просвіщенням. Той, хто народився від Духа Святого і Діви Марії,

прийняв хрещення, щоб просвітити «тих, хто сидів у темряві» (див. Мт. 4, 16). Цього року я хотів би особливо

заохотити Вас шукати просвіщення в Того, кого ісповідуємо «Світлом від Світла» — в Ісуса Христа. У нашій програмі «Жива парафія — місце зустрічі з живим Христом» ми звертаємо особливу увагу на Боже Слово

і катехизацію, тобто на те, що збагачує і розвиває нашу християнську віру. Ми знаходимо час для приватного та

спільного читання і слухання Святого Письма, бо в ньому сам Христос-Учитель до нас промовляє. Через краще

пізнання катехитичних правд за допомогою Катехизму УГКЦ стараємося поглибити нашу віру. Ми з відкритістю

сприймаємо поучення Церкви в різних питаннях, особливо щодо актуальних проблем людського і суспільного

життя. У кожній християнській сім'ї ми часто розмовляємо, терпеливо та шанобливо, про віру, особливо з дітьми

та молоддю. Як я писав у Посланні на тему «Жива парафія», кожен віруючий «має обов'язок щоразу глибше пізнавати правди

святої віри протягом усього свого життя». Учень Христовий ніколи не перестає цікавитися таїнством Божої

любові та доброти, бо вони невичерпні. Подумаймо, отже, чим кожен із нас може цього року поглибити свою віру

і ділитися нею з іншими.

Благословляю цей дім йорданською водою на слухання віри і на прийняття голосу божественного

Євангелія — в ім'я Отця, і Сина, і Святого Духа. Амінь.

JORDAN BLESSING OF THE FATHER AND HEAD OF THE UGCC HIS BEATITUDE SVIATOSLAV

Dearly-Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Together with your parish priest also allow me to enter your hospitable home today and impart on you this traditional Jordan blessing.

Each year the Jordan feast reminds us that in the waters of Holy Baptism we have been born to a new life as children of God. And

being children of God means that we must think, speak, and act in such a way that others can recognize us as disciples of Christ. Our Eastern Christian tradition also calls this feast "the Day of Illumination." The One who was born of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin

Mary was baptized in order to give light to those "who sat in darkness" (see Mt. 4:1 6). This year I especially would like to encourage you to seek illumination from the One, whom we confess as "Light from Light," the

Jesus Christ. In our program, The Vibrant Parish: a Place to Encounter the Living Christ, we pay special attention to "the Word of God

and catechesis," focusing on everything that enriches and develops the Christian faith. We find time for personal and community

reading and listening to the Bible for in it Christ the Teacher himself speaks to us. We seek to deepen our faith through a more

profound understanding of catechetical truths especially by reading the Catechism of the UGCC. We remain open to the teaching of the

Church in different matters especially in response to contemporary problems of human and social life. In every Christian family we

find time for conversations about the faith, with patience and respect, especially towards our children and youth. As I wrote in my Pastoral Letter on the theme of the "Vibrant Parish," all faithful Christians "have a personal responsibility throughout

their whole lives to acquire an ever-deeper knowledge of the truth of the Holy Faith." A disciple of Christ never ceases to be intrigued

by the mystery of God's love and goodness for they are limitless. This year, therefore, let us think of ways to deepen our faith in order

to share it with others.

Після свята Богоявління отець Богдан буде

відвідувати ваші домівки з Йорданською водою.

Це нагода краще пізнати парафіян. Ви можете

безпосередньо запросити отця або заповнити картку –

запрошення, що знаходиться в бюлетені і кинути на

недільну тацу або залишити в вестибюлі на столі.

‘Хто вас приймає, Мене приймає” (Мт 10,40) — сказав

Ісус до Апостолів. Наказав також: «Коли до якого дому

ввійдете, спочатку кажіть: Мир дому цьому! Якщо там

живе людина гідна миру, ваш мир залишиться на

ньому» (Лука 10,5-6).

Прихід священика з душпастирськими відвідинами є

актом публічного визнання віри, а рівно ж знаком єдності

та живого зв'язку домашньої Церкви з Церквою

парафіяльною, а тим самим єпархіальною та

вселенською.

Кожної п’ятниці в 5 годині вечора маємо

катехизацію та співи для двох груп наших

дітей, а також навчання Божого Слова та пояснення

катехизму: “ Христос—наша Пасха” для парафіян.

Перша група дітей – 4 -7 років, друга – 8 - 12 років. Крім

того, кожної неділі триває катехизація з підготовки до

delivered to the rectory office. WORLD MARRIAGE DAY

World Marriage Day takes place on February 10, 2019.

It is an observance sponsored by the Catholic Marriage

Encounter movement observed on the second Sunday of

February each year. “World Marriage Day honors

husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the

basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness,

sacrifice and joy in daily married life.”

Bishop Bohdan Danylo in conjunction with the Department of

Family Life of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat would like to

recognize and honor the couples of our parish who are

celebrating 10, 25, 40, 50 or 60 years of marriage in 2019.

PROSPHORA DINNER

The St. Josaphat Cathedral Parish Prosphora Dinner

will be held in the Astrodome on Sunday, January 13,

2019, at 12:00 Noon after the 10:30 AM Divine

Liturgy. Tickets are $20.00 for adults. Tickets are now

available for purchase at the Rectory Office during business

hours. The deadline for the purchase of tickets is Thursday,

January 10, 2019. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE

DOOR.

This year in conjunction with the traditional

Ukrainian Village Committee’s caroling event, we will

have caroling in our St. Josaphat Cathedral on

THEOPHANY

Today, January 6, the Church celebrates the Feast of the

Holy Theophany of Our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The word “Theophany” means “Manifestation of God” and it

refers to the fact that the Lord has manifested Himself to all of

creation in three Persons. The Father testifies from on high to

the Divine Sonship of Jesus, the Son receives this testimony

from the Father, and the Holy Spirit descends from the Father

in the form of a dove, and rests upon the Son from all eternity.

This is the first manifestation of the greatest of all mysteries -

the Holy Trinity “one in essence and undivided” – a doctrine

unique to Christianity. Our Lord’s public ministry commenced

with His Baptism in the River Jordan at the hands of the

Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John. Baptism is the symbol

of death and resurrection, and Christ became incarnate in

order to die and rise from the dead. Baptism is a symbol of

repentance and forgiveness, and Christ came as the Lamb of

God who takes upon Himself the sin of the world. Baptism is a

symbol of sanctification, and Christ has come to sanctify the

whole of creation. Baptism is a symbol of radical renewal.

Whenever one is baptized, the old has passed and the new has

come. Christ has appeared in order to make all things new.

The act of baptism, therefore, contains in symbol the entire

mystery of Christ, the whole purpose of His coming. Every

year on the Feast of Theophany, a great miracle is performed

in our churches. The Holy Spirit comes down upon the water

and changes its natural properties. It receives the grace to heal

illnesses, to drive away demons and every evil power, to

preserve people and their dwellings from every danger, and to

sanctify various objects, whether for use in churches or in our

homes. With great reverence, let us partake of the Holy Water

that has been sanctified on this great feast, being ever mindful

that we and all creation have been redeemed by the Creator

Himself, who now reveals Himself to be one God in three

Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

БОГОЯВЛЕННЯ

Богоявлення – це празник на згадку Хрещення Ісуса

Христа в ріці Йордан й явлення Пресвятої Трійці: Бог Отець

– Голос з неба, Бог Син – Ісус Христос і Бог Дух Святий – у

вигляді голуба. Перед своїм публічним виступом як

проповідник Євангелії Ісус Христос пішов над ріку Йордан і

дав себе хрестити у ній на знак покаяння, бо таким було

хрещення св. Івана. Христос не мав і не міг мати особистого

гріха. Він прийняв на себе гріхи світу, щоб з часом померти

за них і тим способом своєю смертю дати нам право

повернення до неба, до Бога. Прийнявши людське тіло,

ставши людиною, Син Божий упокорився й уподібнився до

нас в усьому, крім гріха, як каже св. ап. Павло. Своїм

Хрещенням Христос дав нам приклад служіння а також, щоб

і ми упокорялись перед Богом, щоб позбулись гріха і

наслідували Його. Через наше Хрещення ми уподібнились до

Христа. «Ви, що в Христа хрестилися, в Христа

зодягнулись»,– каже св. ап. Павло в Листі до Галатів. Бо так,

як Христоc помер – зійшов до пекла, до гробу, а потім

воскрес і вийшов з пекла прославленим, так і в Хрещенні ми

померли для гріха і з Хрещення вийшли оновленими дітьми

Божими, вийшли новими людьми, наче воскресли. Сьогодні

ми вже Християни, діти Божі! Чи справді ми поводимось

так, як належить дітям Божим? Про перших християн

погани говорили, показуючи пальцем: «дивіться, як вони

любляться!» А чи про нас, українських християн, що вже

1000 літ носимо це ім'я, можна сказати подібне? У Хрещенні

ми одержали крижму, біле полотно, як символ чистоти душі

й ласки Божої. Як виглядає та крижма і душа наша

сьогодні? Ми одержали запалену свічку як символ нашої

віри, що має горіти ціле наше життя. Чи та свічка ще

горить? Чи може погасла, а в руках наших – лиш огарок?

Відновімо наші хресні обіти – зобов'язання, обновімо нашу

душу в св. Сповіді, станьмо подібними до Христа і йдімо за

Ним, бо Він єдиний – Дорога, Правда і Життя!
