GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the

prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am

doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his

empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his

knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah

also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom

shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.”

We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the

saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul

wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything.

What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take

for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what

is unimportant and to accept your call to be God’s messenger? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PARISH COUNCIL NOMINATIONS: Danny Ebelhar and Jason Elder are completing their one term as the

parish council members. I would like to thank them both for their guidance and supports for the smooth running of

the parish activities. We will be taking two nominations (one man and one woman) in the parish council team. We

will be taking the nominations from Jan.20th through Feb.17. And the election will be on March 2nd & 3rd. Please

pray and consider two eligible persons to work in the parish council. The nomination form is on the bulletin board;

you can nominate the names and put it in collection baskets. Thank you. Fr. Shaiju Thomas.

Jail Ministry “When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you? And the king will reply, Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of

these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” These words from Matthew 25:39-40, remind us that we need to bring the hope of

Jesus to jail inmates. Each Sunday afternoon, teams of at least two people visit the men and women inmates at the Daviess

County Detention Center, sharing Scripture, prayer and encouragement that God has not forgotten them. New members are

needed to make one visit per month. Please prayerfully consider participating in this wonderful ministry. Men can contact Father

Ray Clark at 270-231-1705. Women can contact Joy Bach at 270-685-3743, or 270-993-6195.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Luke 4:21-30

And Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is

accepted in his own native place.”

If we become a star athlete or acquire great wealth, our high

school or home town may honor us as “Person of the Year”

or dedicate a plaque to us. But if we challenge people to do

great things, there may be no plaque for us. Jesus entered

the synagogue in his home town of Nazareth and read a

passage from Isaiah that prophesied the coming of the

Messiah and then He said it had been fulfilled in their

midst. The people of Nazareth knew Jesus well. He grew up

and lived among them. He was one of them. He was like

them. He had not yet done anything to indicate that He was

the Messiah. But the people knew the Messiah would do

great things. If Jesus was the Messiah, there was no reason

why they, too, could not do great things. If Jesus could not

prove to them that He was the Messiah, there would be no

pressure on them to be better than they wanted to be. Jesus

knew that familiarity breeds doubt. He challenged the

people of Nazareth to accept Him despite their doubt - to

have faith in Him. Do we sometimes doubt Jesus? Do we

accept Him as Messiah despite our doubt? Do we have faith

in Him?

Now is the time…
