    Confession and Absolution

M: We have come into the presence of God, but we do not have clean handsor pure hearts. Let us confess our sins to God and plead for his mercy.

C: (sings hymn 306 v 1,2 Before You, God, the Judge of All)

Before you, God, the judge of all, Withgrief and shame I humbly fall.I see my sins against you, Lord, My sins of thought and deed and word. They press me sore; to you I flee: O God, be merciful to me!

O Lord, my God, to you I pray; Oh, cast me not in wrath away!Let your good Spirit neer depart, But let him draw to you my heartThat truly penitent I be: O God, be merciful to me!

M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only

Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a calledservant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the nameof the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

    C: (sung to CW 306)

Forgiven now I sing to you. My heart with joy you have renewed.Refresh my spirit on this day and grant that justified I may,Sing praises to my Savior King. Hosanna to my God, I bring.

    The Word

    First Reading: Zechariah 9:9-10

9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey,on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim

and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken.

He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to seaand from the River to the ends of the earth.

Our Response: (hymn 4 v 1,5 Lift Up Your Heads, You Mighty Gates)

Lift up your heads, you mighty gates! Behold, the King of glory waits,The King of kings is drawing near; The Savior of the world is here.

Life and salvation he will bring; Therefore rejoice and gladly sing.To God the Father raise Your joyful songs of praise.

Redeemer, come! I open wide My heart to you; here, Lord, abide!Oh, enter with your saving grace; Show me your kind and friendly face

Your Holy Spirit guide us on Until our glorious goal is won.

Eternal praise and fame We offer to your name.

    Second Reading: Philippians 2:5-11

5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature God,did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8 And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himselfand became obedient to death --even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest placeand gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.

Our Response: (hymn 344 v 1,5 At the Name of Jesus)

At the name of Jesus Evry knee shall bow,Evry tongue confess him King of glory now;Tis the Fathers pleasure We should call him Lord,Who from the beginning Was the mighty Word.

In your hearts enthrone him; There let him subdueAll that is not holy, All that is not true.Crown him as your captain In temptations hour;Let his will enfold you In its light and powr.

    Sermon Text: Mark 11: 1-10

1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at theMount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, "Go to thevillage ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there,

which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.

    3

If anyone asks you,`Why are you doing this?' tell him, `The Lord needs it and will send it backhere shortly.'"4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they

untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untyingthat colt?" 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people letthem go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it,he sat on it.8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branchesthey had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followedshouted, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" 10"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the high-est!"
