Romans 12:9-219 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to oneanother in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lackingin zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient inaffliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hos-pitality.14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those whorejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not beproud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of eve-rybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "Itis mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on hishead." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Luke 9:51-5651 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set outfor Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan vil-lage to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, be-cause he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John sawthis, they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroythem?" 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56 and they went to another village.

Acts 12:1-31 It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death withthe sword. 3 When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter

also. This happened during the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

the theme for our summer sermon series. The words below are from the book whichbears this title.

TWELVE ORDINARY MENHow the Master shaped his disciples for service in Gods kingdom

and what he wants to do with you.

Who were these men? They werent saints. They werent scholars.

They werent even religious sages. What is most amazing about the disciples

is that Jesus ever selected them at all.Among them, a handful of common fishermen,

a hated tax collector, and an impulsive political zealot.

Pastor Mike and his wife, Cathy, are at the Lutheran Womens Missionary SocietyConvention in Denver, Colorado. He was asked to go to the convention and give apresentation on our Synods work in Pakistan. He will return shortly. Many havesaid these conventions are a foretaste of heaven. The fellowship with Christianbrothers and sisters and the joy of listening to missionaries speak of their work athome and abroad is uplifting. This is the first convention that Pastor Mike and Cathy

    will have attended.

GUEST FROM PAKISTAN& SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO GREET HIMOn Tuesday, June 30th, Pastor Mike will pick up John, a 17 year-old, at OHare Air-

port. John is the son of our contact in Pakistan, a doctor who operates a privatehospital. Johns father oversees our Bible Correspondence and Teaching School(BC & TS) which currently has 18,000 adults and children enrolled.John will be staying with the Duncans until Thursday, July 16th. This will be his first

visit to America. No member of his family has ever been to America. During hisstay in America he will be attending the WELS International Youth Rally in Ames,Iowa from Wednesday, July 8th through Saturday, July 11th. He will worship with us

on Thursday, July 2nd or Sunday, July 5th and then again on Sunday, July 12th.When he is with us, please do not speak to him about the violence in his country.Do not say, How can you live in a country where there is so much violence carriedout by Muslim extremists? or Arent you afraid of the terrorists? (which concernsJohn and his two sisters.)You may say, What is life like in Pakistan? and then he can tell you his own

thoughts. He speaks English quite well - though he may occasionally have a littlebit of difficulty understanding. Do greet him warmly. Let him know that you careabout him and pray for his family and their work in Pakistan. When Pastor Mike went to Pakistan in March, the doctor was there to meet him atthe airport in Lahore at 3 a.m. He had to drive three hours from his home to the air-port. During Pastor Mikes stay in Pakistan, the doctors family provided care for him

during the mornings, afternoons and evenings. This is now an opportunity for PastorMike and his family to show kindness in return.

REPORT ON CHILDRENS FUNDLast Sunday $ 518 was given to the Childrens Fund. This money is used to help

us provide a low student-teacher ratio in our school. Each gift is a valuable contribu-tion to the General Fund for the support of the school. Each week we need $ 1,298 to meet our goal. So far we have received

$ 47,562. This is an overall shortfall in the Childrens Fund of $ 18,640.This shortfall is included in the shortfall for the Total Budget (listed at the end of the

bulletin) and is not in addition to that shortfall. If we are blessed with a surplus in the Childrens Fund, half of the surplus will be

used for finishing the Childrens Ministry area in the lower level of the addition andthe other half will be used for capital improvements in the school.
