    Get ready for a spectacular Kids Day Out in Brimbank on Sunday 26 October from 10am4pm at the Errington Community Centre in St Albans. Hosted by Council, it is a fun day out for the whole family catering to children from 1 to 10 years. It will feature popular kids groups; The Kazoos, The Mik Maks and The Mudcakes as well as amusement rides and roving entertainers - all at no charge. There will be plenty to do including a kids DJ, hula, dance and music workshops, storytelling, sport come and try, healthy-option foods, show bags and much more!

    The best part about a kids day is the adults can enjoy themselves as well. The day is as much about interaction between adults and children as it is about letting the kids have the time of their lives!

    Kids Day Out in Brimbank was a great success last year, attracting more than 10,000 people across the day.

    The day is also part of the national Childrens Week celebrations and aims to do three things: to stimulate, educate and entertain. So dont miss a great way to celebrate Childrens Week with your family!

    Industrial action and possible service disruptionsYour waste, recycling and green waste collection may be disrupted due to industrial action.

    Other Council services including the collection of litter and dumped rubbish and the mowing of some sports grounds, parks and gardens may also be disrupted.

    The industrial action is being initiated by the Unions after being unable to reach a decision with Council on the staff Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

    The priority for Council is delivering value for money to our community and providing fair conditions for staff .

    Council will respond to all industrial action with the aim of minimising the impact on our community.

    It is also possible these bans may extend to other services. The Unions have to provide Council with 72 hours notice before any ban is introduced.

    We apologise for any possible disruption and thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Glass will not be used to replace shattered panes in bus shelters across Delahey and surrounding suburbs.

    In its approach to preventing further vandalism, Adshel, the company contracted to maintain bus shelters, says it will use mesh panels instead of glass on any new shelters being built in the area, and the glass panels on any smashed shelters will not be replaced until the current spate of vandalism stops.

    Adshel spokesman Tristan Tobin said more than 60 glass bus shelters in the area had been targeted over the past six weeks, including multiple breakages in Delahey, Taylors Hill, Caroline Springs, Sydenham, Taylors Lakes and Kings Park.

    The recent vandalism in Delahey and the surrounding suburbs has been extreme, Mr Tobin said. The clean-up and repair costs for the damage represents a significant financial burden to Adshel and we share the communitys frustrations and disappointment.

    Its our experience that any glass recently replaced has been smashed again almost immediately. Our decision to delay repairs stems from our concerns for community safety regarding broken glass.

    Any future installation in the Delahey area will use a mesh design. However, Adshel does this reluctantly, given that glass shelters offer better wind protection and a more pleasant commuter environment.

    New bus shelters being installed along Caroline Springs Boulevard and Gourlay Road in Caroline Springs will incorporate the mesh design.

    Mr Tobin said no taxpayer funds were used in the cleaning or fixing of shelters. To report vandalism of bus shelters, call 1800 501 402.

    Taylors Lakes youngster Aidan McNally takes his footy to bed, never misses a Western Bulldogs game and has taught his one-year-old sister the goal salute.

    But the bubbly six-year-old was flabbergasted when he found out hed been nominated for the 2014 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year award.

    I felt sort of like a zombie, the Taylors Lakes Primary School pupil says.

    I was excited and I told my whole class and they said, Are you kidding me?

    Aidans mum Sarah says her son lives and breathes the game. If hes not snapping his ball through an open door, hes kicking it to himself or asking anyone to have a kick, she said.

    Aidans favourite player is the Bulldogs Luke Dahlhaus. Hes number six and thats how old I am, Aidan says.

    Last Tuesday, AFL great Tim Watson stopped at Aidans school to meet the Taylors Lakes player and have a kick of the footy with him and his classmates.

    Aidan and 21 other Auskickers who best demonstrate the spirit of the game dedication, enthusiasm, teamwork and passion will walk in the grand final parade, play on the MCG on grand final day and present a premiership medal. The overall winner will also win $5000.

    Wheelchairs, walking sticks and other mobility aids are being donated to people who otherwise couldnt afford them, as part of a Keilor community project.

    The Keilor Rotary Club has joined Rotary clubs across the west for the mobility aids project, which makes second-hand mobility and lifestyle aids available to occupational therapists and other health providers for clients who cant afford to buy their own aids.

    Joe Raimondo, from Keilor Rotary, said wheelchairs, walking sticks and frames, motorised scooters, shower chairs, mechanical slings and adjustable beds were among the items donated by hospitals and deceased estates towards the project.

    The equipment, which is sent to the Rotary Donations in Kind store in West Footscray, is thoroughly checked and cleaned before it is redistributed.

    Mr Raimondo said requests for equipment could not be received from individuals and could only come from health service providers following an assessment by them that the equipment is required and that the need could not otherwise be met because of urgency, supply difficulties or financial considerations.
