Who We Are, About Us

Susan G. Komen is a foundation that’s goal is to save lives and end breast cancer. As well as, support research, offer grants that provide mostly financial and emotional assistance, and promotes the awareness of breast cancer. This foundation was founded in 1982, in Dallas, TX by Nancy Brinker.Nancy named the foundation after her sister, Susan Koman died from breast cancer in 1980. Nancy founded the foundation so no one would have to go through what she went through with her sister.

Programs

Komen affiliates partners with more than 1,500 community organizations across the united states and most of their international outreach is done through partnerships with NGOs government and corporations.Bank of America developed programs for high school juniors and seniors to apply for eight-week summer experience that gives high school students scholarships for being strong leaders. This includes a paid internship and one week in Washington D.C.

Impact to Community

The impact of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is global. Since different countries have different beliefs in how to handle breast cancer the treatment of it varies, this is mainly due to different cultures, health care, and the economy. So since countries handle it differently and no true treatment proves effective they partner with nonprofit organizations around the world to help raise awareness and education about breast cancer.

Anyone can get involved in the organization. you can host your own passionately pink event or even create a donation page you can volunteer or be an advocate for the organization
