WHY DID YOU DECIDE YOUWANTED TO STUDY ATNHC?

I had decided sixth formwasnt for me as I wanted tostudy something that wouldgive me skills to take mestraight into the workplace;the project based learning iswhat attracted me becauseI liked the idea of mixingtheoretical work with

practical work. I also knewa lot of my friends wereplanning on studying there.

HOW LONG DID YOUSTUDY FOR AND WHATLEVEL DID YOU REACH?I studied for two years

reaching Level 3, receivinga diploma in Childcareand Education: ChildhoodStudies.

    WHAT WAS YOUR

FAVOURITE PART OF THECOURSE?Going on placements wasmy favourite part of thecourse because we got toput our skills to practice

and at the end gain a reallygood reference for futurejob applications. My familyplacement was a particularhighlight as they were reallyfriendly and made me feelwelcome; I still keep in touchas their childcare contact.

HOW EASY WAS IT TOFIND EMPLOYMENTAFTER?I got a job relatively quicklyafter leaving NHC; within amonth after leaving. Withgood references aftercompleting my family and

work placements, and a Level3 qualification, my time atNHC definitely made it easierto find a job.

WHERE DO YOU WORKNOW?I have been working atTreetops Day Nursery inStotfold coming up for a year

now as a permanent full timemember, five days a weekbetween 7:50am 6pm. I workin the Crocs room which isfor 3-5 year olds.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANSFOR THE FUTURE?

I plan to continue working atTreetops for another year.Next I am planning to go toAustralia to become an AuPair; a great way to see theother side of the world whilstcontinuing my professionaldevelopment.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAYAT WORK LIKE?Its really fun for children atthe nursery as there are lotsof activities they can choosefrom during free flow play;we have the maths table, thehome corner (role play), the

reading area, and the wetroom; an area designed formessy play such as painting, drawing, play dough etc.

We also plan activities inadvance to promote thedevelopment of our keychildren; for example, fingerpainting promotes the Fine

Motor Skills and SensoryDevelopment of the children. We take observations of thison our key children. The children love the gardenas there are lots of funactivities such as the diggingarea and scooters. We takethem there at different

points during the day; thisalso promotes their holisticdevelopment.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOYMOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?Working with the childrenis my favourite part of thejob; getting to know themall individually and learningtheir characters. Seeing thechildren grow and develop, reaching the next stepsin their learning is also anaspect of the job I enjoy.

    A group of twenty students,

    studying Health and Social

Care, had the opportunityto work alongside staff

    members at Providence

    Court care home to get

    real life work experience.

    Many had already decided

    which role to pursue in

    the health and social care

    sector, but for those who

were undecided, it gavethem an insight into what

    opportunities might be

    available in the future.
