Unified Managed Accounts

The ever-increasing complexity of investment management can make coordinating decisions a full-time job. Unified managed accounts (UMAs) can provide you with a comprehensive, unified approach to asset allocation, investment product selection, account management and performance reporting by consolidating different investment products — such as separately managed accounts, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds — within a single account structure.

Portfolio Management

Because the markets are complex and can change quickly, many investors prefer to give a trusted professional full discretion to invest their assets and manage their portfolios. Financial Advisors who participate in Consulting Group’s Portfolio Management program are a select group qualified by the firm to manage client assets based on training, experience and commitment to client service.

Nondiscretionary Programs

ASSET ALLOCATION. The importance of asset allocation in a carefully conceived investment plan has long been recognized by investment professionals. While it cannot assure a profi t or protect against loss, when executed properly, it can provide a potential means of managing risk and targeting enhanced long-term returns. In helping you determine your asset al-location, your Financial Advisor may begin with the work of the fi rm’s Global Investment Committee (GIC), a dedicated team of qualifi ed investment professionals. The GIC applies the fi ndings of the fi rm’s research teams across a range of in-vestable assets to provide the input for asset allocation models calibrated to various risk levels and continually modifi ed as

the markets move. These asset allocation models may then become part of the basis for your investment strategy.INVESTMENT MANAGER RESEARCH. Choosing a professional asset manager is one of the most important decisions any investor can make. INVESTMENT SELECTION. Selecting complementary investment products for a portfolio is a stage of the investment process in which the experience and resources available through Con-sulting Group may provide signifi cant value to investors. The Portfolio Advisory Services team within Consulting Group combines an objective portfolio construction discipline with a sophisticated risk management framework to evaluate and ultimately recommend the investment products for our fi rm-discretionary advisory programs, including Fiduciary Asset Management and some unifi ed managed accounts.

OVERLAY PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT. One of the primary challenges in unifi ed managed accounts is the operational integration required to e� ciently and e� ectively manage an account structure that incorporates a variety of di� erent investment products. Private Portfolio Group, Consulting Group’s overlay portfolio manager, helps provide a com-prehensive, unifi ed approach to this process by coordinat-ing portfolio construction and implementation, account rebalancing and additional services in our unifi ed managed account program.

There are many challenges involved in building, integrating and overseeing an investment portfolio with multiple managers and products. In many cases, these activities can be complex and time-consuming, and may be very di� cult for an investor to perform alone. Consulting Group addresses these issues by leveraging the investment selection and overlay portfolio management services of two of our internal teams.
