Decorations are up. Rock Road has turned into a parking lot as the traffic is so bad. Store lines are long. Music is playing. (Actually it’s been playing since October). It’s Christmas again and that wonderful, exciting time is upon us. The Central family is very busy this month as you can see by flipping through this journal.

Our study series this month is a nostalgic look at the season called, “Where Are You, Christmas?” The Christmas musical (by the same title) is December 13th & 14th. The King’s Birthday Offering will be received the weekends of December 13th & 20th. Those special gifts to Jesus will be applied to the general fund this year to support our ministries, outreach and discipleship.

Christmas Eve services this year will be a little different. All three services (Noon, 5:00pm & 11:00pm) will be identical. Each will last 55 minutes and nursery will be provided for Pre-K and younger children at the Noon & 5:00pm services ONLY. We encourage you to bring with you friends, family, co-workers and neighbors who do not know Jesus, or who have no church home. Please don’t come alone. We will make it a special evening for you and your guests as we celebrate the birth of the King.

On behalf of my family, I offer you a special prayer of blessings for the holidays. May God fill your home with joy and your heart with love. Midst the shopping and parties, may Jesus remain the focus of this season.

Merry Christmas!

Registration closeson December 6th,so don’t be late!Register online or inthe church office with Lynn EbyMonday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm.

As in the past, we would love to have youhelp with our table decorations. Table decorators may arrive between 4–9 pm on Friday,December 11th, or from 7:30–8:45 am on Saturday, December 12th. On Friday, doors 13 & 14 will be open (north side); on Saturday, doors 3 & 14 will be open.

We ask that you provide the “centerpiece” with a Christmas theme; we will provide all the other serving needs, including a white tablecloth for each round table. You may decorate as many tables as you wish. If decorating a table, you may reserve all or part of the table for you and your friends, or you may leave it open for guests. If you are registering by yourself, please let us know if you have been invited by a table host, if you wish to sit with friends, or if you are coming alone.

As with all events, it takes “servants” to make sure we are ready to open the doors for our guests. If you are willing to help, please let us know right away. We need greeters and ushers, and those willing to help clean up after the event (this should take only 30 minutes). We know you will love our guest speaker, Jennifer Baysinger! She is a long-time business owner, former Women’s Ministry leader, avid couponer and community volunteer. She is passionate about marriage and family, and encourages women to pursue Biblical womanhood. Jennifer studied communications at WSU. She and her husband, Blake, have three boys, Marcus, Mason and Max. They have attended Hope Community Church in Andover for 18 years. Our vocalist, Angie Jones, is well known to many of you. Angie and her family moved to Wichita from her hometown of San Diego just over 20 years ago, and she and her husband, Dean, just celebrated 30 years of marriage! They have three wonderful children. Angie has had the joy of working at Central Christian Academy for 15 years. She says she has always sang, and that her mom told her she should have named her Melody :-)! She sang in choirs in church, school, and too many Christmas musicals to count! “Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing!” (Psalm 100:2)

AWANA Calendar:• December9—BackwardsNight

Everything will be a little backwards on this night!

• December23&30—NoAWANA/ChristmasBreak

Save The Date for “Bingo Blast”!Our yearly volunteer appreciation event is just around the corner and with the craziness of the holidays we want to make sure that you get this date on your calendar. Be sure to reserve Friday, January 15th for you and your family. This event is for anyone who volunteers in any aspect of Central Kids. There will be more details to come, and we promise this is one event you will not want to miss!!

Christmas Eve Volunteers NeededThis year we are offering Central Kids programming on Christmas Eve for the Infant thru Preschool-aged children for the Noon and 5:00pm service. In order to make this as successful as possible we could use some help. If you would be willing to volunteer to serve these kids and their families for an hour during one of these services, please let us know. You can contact us at 316-688-4400, or [email protected].

Break out your Bunny Slippers, put on your favorite PJ’sand join us for...

This fun event is for all children age 2 – grade 5 the weekend of December 26th & 27th during each worship service. The kids will enjoy games, snacks and movies! Please make sure PJ¹s are appropriate. Girls wearing nightgowns should wear shorts underneath. Children must

wear shoes.

Holiday Childcare ScheduleEach year around Christmas, along with many of the normal church functions, the nursery closes for a couple of weeks. We do this so our Facilities team can do some much needed

deep cleaning in the nursery, and to allow our workers to spend some quality time with their own families. If you are part of a group that meets from December 21–January 1,

please take note that there will not be child care offered during these dates. We will continue our excellent weekend worship service programming during the 5:33, 8:45, 10:00 and 11:30 services. We will only be closed for events outside of our regular worship services.

Check-In Volunteers NeededOne of the first interactions we have with new families at Central Christian is at the Central Kids Check-In Counter in the lobby. This counter gives us the opportunity to get important information from these families and to get to know them. Our goal is to make their experience in our “big” church feel as personal and welcoming as possible. We are in need of volunteers at each service to help us make all our families feel like they have a home here at Central. If you would be willing to volunteer to serve these families for at least one service each month we could really use your help. Find out more by contacting us at 316-688-4400, or [email protected].

“From the Head

12

I thought I truly knew how much God loved me as I was in short term missions for three years. I went to minister and mentor troubled teen girls in Vermont at the Fold Family Ministries. The girls would live there to get help and their families had to go through retreats on the weekends. We would teach them who they were in Christ and counsel them through their hurts.

One day as we were singing at the piano, a girl started crying as I was playing “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” She ran off crying and when I caught up to her, I asked her what was wrong. She smiled really big as she was crying and stated, “I never really knew how much God loved me until now. It was like God turned on the light bulb in my heart, it went from my head to my heart.” That encounter made an impact on me. I had come to minister to her, but her comment made me think, “do I really know how much God loves me in my heart?” I really felt I knew it in my head, but started praying that the Holy Spirit would make it real in my heart.

I continued that prayer for several months and I started hanging out on all the Bible verses about love. Then one day, we were singing as a group for our parents’ retreat, and the Holy Spirit just filled my heart with a joy of knowing deep in my soul: “YES, Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit really did love me!” It was like a light bulb turned on in my heart. A verse that has been very special ever since has been Romans 8:37-39—“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor

demons, neitherthe present nor thefuture, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

From that day on, that scripture has been an anchor for me. When life’s trials come and the storm seems unbearable, that peace I believe comes from the anchor of knowing in my soul, how much God loves me. If I focus on that, then He handles the storm, or whatever is going on, and I can rest in that. The old me, which can still pop up, wants to figure it out myself. But I’ve learned, and keep learning, that if I do that, I am trying to do God’s job and it doesn’t turn out well. I then try to focus on surrendering and letting go of control and I journal it all to give it back to Him. Then, I go back to His Love and who I am in Christ. I will write about “Who I am in Christ,” in my next article. May you know how much GOD loves you in this coming year!

If you have passed through the south lobby in the last few weeks, then you have witnessed the steadily growing “mountain” near the children’s check-in area. These donations of non-perishable food items will help keep our pantry full to assist those in our church family struggling to make ends meet. In these trying times, we average two to three food requests a week from those coming to Central.

We have included a shopping list of some of the most common items needed. The “Mountain of Food” will be up through December 20th. Thank you in advance for all of your generous donations and thus the blessing of many in need! Praise the Lord!!

“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:10–12

Giving Without Hurting

Christmaswith Jesus

During the Christmas season, our thoughts turn to giving. As a young boy at home, my father used to play a light-hearted song from time to time that has always stuck with me. Some of the lyrics were: “God loves a cheerful giver, give it all you’ve got. He loves to see you laughing when you’re in an awful spot. When the odds add up against you, it’s time to stop and sing; praise God to praise Him is a joyous thing.”

We have all heard the saying, “give until it hurts,” but that doesn’t always produce cheerful giving. There are ways to give that won’t hurt, and then we are able to be cheerful givers and help other people at the same time.

For example, evaluate your home and identify all of the items that you are no longer using. If you don’t need those items anymore, donate them to your favorite charity (subliminal…His Helping Hands)! The modern buzz-word for this process is called repurposing, i.e., taking items that are no longer being used by one family and giving them to another family that can use them. That is exactly what we do at HHH.

Below are some facts shared by William F. High, a CEO and Innovation Leader, in a recent article that he wrote:

• Thereare300,000itemsintheaverageAmericanhome(LA Times).

• TheaveragesizeoftheAmericanhomehasnearlytripledinsizeoverthepast50years (NPR).Andstill,1outofevery10Americansrentoffsitestorage–thefastestgrowingsegmentofthecommercialrealestateindustryoverthepastfourdecades (New York Times Magazine).

• 25%ofthepeoplewithtwo-cargaragesdon’thaveroomtoparkcarsinsidethemand32%onlyhaveroomforonevehicle(U.S. Department of Energy).

• Americansspendmoreonshoes,jewelryandwatches($100billion)thanonhighereducation(Psychology Today).

• Americansspend$1.2trillionannuallyon non-essentialgoods–inotherwords,itemstheydonot need (The Wall Street Journal).

So, we all have some work to do. And, the best part about repurposing items at HHH is that we also take this opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with each family. May God bless you for being a cheerful giver to others through the ministry of His Helping Hands, during this Christmas season and beyond!

Saturday, December 12 • 8:00 am – Noon

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 cor. 9:7

Repurposed toys will be cheerfully given to hundreds of children this month during our annual

“Christmas with Jesus” event!
