School Opinion Survey Today all families will receive a blue letter inviting them to participate in the School Opinion Survey. The survey is undertaken each year by the department’s State Schools Division to obtain the opinions of parents/caregivers, students and school staff about important aspects of schooling. The survey is designed to help schools identify what they do well and what they can improve. Again this year the School Opinion Survey can be completed online. The survey is open until the 23 August. The blue letter outlines the process and a unique code to access your Parent/Caregiver survey. Selected students will also have the opportunity to complete their survey at school in the coming weeks. All families and school staff are invited to complete the survey prior to the 24 August to ensure that your opinion is included in our School’s report. The report will help our School and Education Queensland to further understand how to better meet the needs of our community. If you have any queries about the survey, or would like to complete the survey at school please contact the School Office. We understand that internet access can be challenging in our rural location, use of computers or iPads, along with a tea or coffee are available at the school to assist families in completing the survey. Your opinion counts!
PLP Goals/Academic Success Guarantee (ASG) We are 3 weeks into this terms ASG cycle. Students are responding well to the extra in-class support being provided to students who are participating in ASG. Teachers have reported that many students are making great progress, as they strive to achieve their PLP reading and number goals for this cycle. Great work students, staff and parents! The overall student attendance so far this year is 87.7 %. Last week’s whole school attendance was at 90.2%. Well done students! Remember that every day counts, the more students are at School the more available School time they receive, and this must help in ensuring our students meet and beat the appropriate benchmarks by the end of the year. Again, keep up the good work students, staff and parents! Remember to be eligible for on-going inclusion in ASG, individual student attendance must be maintained at 90% or better, that is no more than 20 days absent for the year!

SECONDARY SNAPSHOT Camp: students have received camp paperwork. All paperwork is due back when completed. Careers Market: last week the Year 9/10 students attended the biannual Careers Market in St George. The Careers Market had many trade displays that allowed the students to visit and then ask questions about training and career pathways. Important points and facts:
Defence Force personnel explained the importance of Maths, English and Science subjects.
Golden West is a business that can help us find apprenticeships and traineeships.
A resume is a document that we need to create that outlines information about ourselves. Employers will often short list applicants based on their resume.
In the Correctional Services, there is a job as a dog handler. You work and train police dogs.
You need to be earning or learning. There are many agencies that can help you with your career pathways.
The Balonne Shire Council advertises both school based and full time apprenticeships/traineeships.
Some businesses require qualifications prior to employment and other businesses will train you on the job.
The difference between apprenticeships and traineeships just depends on the course you are studying.
We all enjoyed the Careers Market and now look forward to investigating many careers and their specific pathways.
