Oriole Welcomes New Agility Equipment

Managers!!!

Shortly before the club closed due to COVID, we were

fortunate to have two new members step forward to

assume responsibility for managing the agility

equipment. Now that we have begun the process of a

phased re-open, the Board wanted to remind everyone

that should you notice a problem with any of the agility

equipment or have any questions related to agility

equipment, please reach out to our new agility

equipment managers Susan Clark

([email protected]) and Isabel Martinez

([email protected]). We are grateful to have them in this

role and we thank Richard Matthews for his many years

of service to the club.

AKC Rally and Obedience Trials – August 21-23, 2020

by Debbie Kaminski

I am pleased to report that the first big event scheduled at

Oriole’s building since the pandemic began, was a huge

success!! I owe a big thank you to Sue Carlton and Joan

Faltot (Trial Chair Extraordinaire!) for helping with the

behind-the-scene details. We logged a total of 9 hours on

Zoom discussing how to safely proceed with our trial.

Since we only had one other obedience trial to use as a

guide, it was a daunting task.

The biggest change from past years was going

from a two-ring trial to a one-ring trial. We

figured this would give everyone plenty of

crating space and allow for proper social

distancing. We also limited our entries to help

keep things a little more manageable.

Everyone adhered to our club rules (hand

washing/sanitizing each time they entered the

building; wearing a mask the entire time they

were in the building, including while

competing), along with our trial-specific rules

(signing the COVID-19 waiver each day; not

congregating around the ring entrance, one-

way routes in and out of the building).

I received many compliments on how well our

trial was run along with a few suggestions,

too. Most exhibitors were very appreciative

that we moved forward with our trial…they

just wanted to get back to some sort of

normalcy…competing with their dogs! It was

so much fun to watch people interact (from six

feet away, of course!). Most hadn’t seen each other since before all this started. I felt as though it

was at a reunion of sorts.

See the “Thank You” section below to acknowledge those who helped make this event successful!

Looking forward to our next event!

2020 AKC Trick Dog National Competition – It’s Virtual!!! Special Prizes for Outstanding Performance by Breeds! Deadline is October 1, 2020

Last year’s Virtual Trick Dog Competition was a huge success. By popular demand and many

requests, we are pleased to announce the AKC Trick Dog National Competition for 2020.

All AKC Trick Dogs who have earned the Elite Performer title by the deadline for entry (October 1,

2020, 5:00 pm, EST) can enter this exciting annual event for trick dogs. Because the competition is

virtual (i.e., the judging will be done via video), trick dogs everywhere can participate.

How it works

Submit a video to AKC of your dog’s trick dog routine. The routine must be no longer than 6

minutes and may include props and music. The 6 minutes includes the time for moving props

during the routine, and performing the tricks.

You may use a new video, or a video previously submitted to AKC for review to earn your title.

Videos that were entered in the 2019 Virtual Tricks competition may not be submitted again. The

dog must be living at the time of your submission.

As is the case with all Elite Performer routines, there must be a theme or story. For this virtual

competition, an audience is not required.

If you have more than one great routine, you may submit up to two videos (per dog) to the

competition.

When

To enter, submit your video between July 1 and October 1, 2020. Three judges will judge the

submissions and the winner will be announced in December 2020.

The winner of the 2020 AKC Trick Dog Competition will receive a cash prize of $500 and two

semi-finalists will each receive $250. The winners will be featured in AKC media, their videos will

be on the AKC Trick Dog web page, and they will receive a commemorative trophy.

This year, new prizes have been added. There will be additional prizes for Outstanding Props,

Outstanding Scripts, and Outstanding Handling. There will be some special prizes for

Outstanding Performances by Breed.

Shout-Outs!

Debbie Kaminski with Timber had a super weekend at Oriole DTC's Rally and Obedience Trials.

Friday night, he earned his first Rally Novice leg with a 98. For his AKC obedience debut in Beginner

Novice B, he earned a perfect 200 on Saturday and a 198.5 on Sunday. Couldn't have been prouder of

From Janet Janet

Gauntt - good weekend at

the Oriole Barn Hunt.

Legacy Q'd 1x at the Senior

level (which was far better

than I expected), Sequel Q'd 2x, and... Johnny B finished his Senior title

and picked up another 140 pts in Crazy 8s with the highest run each

day JB also put in a respectable run in Masters, but we had the bad

luck to draw only 1 rat so he ran out of patience searching and hit on a

litter tube.

Rose Kane and Frenzy placed 38 out of 3,200 teams worldwide in the Fall 2020 league of K9 Frisbee

Toss & Fetch.

her NW1 (NACSW) title, with Pronounced designations in interior, exterior, and container

searches, plus a 3rd place in the exterior search, plus - and I really needed to be sitting down for

this - 3rd place overall out of 44 exhibitors.

Michele Long with Bennie achieved his AKC Novice Trick Dog Title on 9/17. I’m so proud of

my little guy! He did a great job and is always eager to work! He had so much fun learning all the

new tricks!

Congratulations to Donald Grskovich and Asher. Asher got his NW1

New Puppies or New To You

If you have a new puppy (8 weeks – 1 year) submit pictures so that others may enjoy some puppy cuteness!

Debbie Kaminski welcomes "Pebbles", Timber's new sister!!! Pebbles came from the Canine

Humane Network in Howard County. She is a hound mix...probably of the Foxhound variety. All I

know is that she LOVES Timber to pieces and he is smitten with her.
